    Maharashtra: Thane civic body flags off ‘Rabies Free’ campaign | Mumbai News

    Thane: Nearly two months after a six-year-old from Diva died after being bitten by an allegedly rabies-infected canine in her locality, the Thane Municipal Corporation flagged off its special “Rabies Free” campaign.Mayor Sharmila Pimpolkar flagged off the campaign recently in the presence of deputy municipal commissioner Manish Joshi, Shiv Sena leader Pawan Kadam, corporator Minal Sankhye, and veterinary officer Dr Kshama Shirodkar. The campaign was jointly executed by the municipal corporation and animal welfare organisations.

    “As per plans, a team of 50 people was formed for this. Through this team, 5,000 stray dogs will be vaccinated against rabies in a week. An orange reflector belt will be tied around the neck of vaccinated stray dogs. The aim is to vaccinate 25,000 stray dogs in the coming month, and this campaign will be implemented continuously in the future as well,” informed chief medical officer Dr Prasad Patil.
