MUMBAI: An FIR was lodged against a tuition teacher from Borivli after she got a student to leak an exam question paper on Sunday. The 14-year-old student had appeared for a maths proficiency exam at a Gorai centre under a fake identity. The teacher even turned up at the police station claiming she was his mother. The exam is held annually by a maths forum for students of Classes 5, 7 and 8. Candidates have to pre-register online on the forum’s website and pay a fee. They are issued a hall ticket, which they have to carry along for the exam. The centre receives a list of candidates and question papers two days before the exam, and its staffers match candidates’ hall tickets against the list of students with them and allow them entry accordingly. At the Gorai centre, four rooms had been allotted for 139 students from noon to 2pm. Around 1.30pm, the supervisor in one of the rooms found a candidate’s behaviour suspicious. He was making repeated trips to the washroom with the question paper. On being frisked, a cellphone was found on him. The principal of the centre was informed and the phone was checked. It was found that the boy had been sending the question paper on a WhatsApp group since noon. He claimed he was sending it to his “rakhi sister”.The boy’s hall ticket had a fake name on it and he provided fake phone numbers for his parents when asked. He also lied about the name of his school and refused to provide his date of birth. The principal then took him to Borivli police station. At the police station, a woman turned up claiming she was his mother. But she couldn’t produce the teen’s Aadhaar card copy when asked to prove his identity.Investigations showed the boy studied at a Malad school in Class 9 and the woman was his tuition teacher. Police said she taught maths and English at the coaching class and had asked the teen to appear for the maths proficiency exam under a fake identity. His parents were not aware of it.
