MUMBAI: A 43-year-old real estate broker was arrested on charges of rape and exploiting his business partner on the false promise of marriage, besides threatening and stalking her.The Amboli police on Saturday arrested the broker and was produced before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate court which remanded him to police custody.
His lawyer Prabhakar Tripathi alleged that his client has been falsely arrested. “The FIR is a dispute between the two partners and it is a clear counter-blast to the arbitration proceedings. The High Court had granted an injunction restraining the complainant from using the company’s intellectual property rights on social media and despite her violation of the order a contempt petition was filed’’ said Tripathi. The complainant came in contact with the accused in January 2023 at a Juhu-based property office. Police stated that the accused gained the complainant’s trust by proposing a business partnership and later started a brokerage firm with her in August 2023 at a co-working space in Andheri West. During the course of work, he allegedly misrepresented his marital status, claimed he was in the process of divorcing his wife, and promised to marry the complainant. When the complainant later questioned him about marriage, Mishra allegedly told her that he would not leave his wife and instead demanded that she remain his mistress. He contiunued threatening her and the complainant stopped attending office and blocked him, after which the accused allegedly continued stalking her.
