Cops seized Monday an unidentified drone abandoned in a field near the Pakistan border in J&K’s Poonch district, while seven rounds of magazines for an AK-series rifle were found strewn in Udhampur district, over 270 km away.Officials clarified that the drone was not a defence equipment but among many such devices often used for taking photos at weddings and other social gatherings. Still, the discovery sparked fears of espionage as the site is near the Mendhar sector of the border.“Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police received an input about the drone abandoned in a field belonging to one Mohd Shafiq in Gohled village. After the information, SOG rushed and seized the drone,” an official said.The magazines were found in an open field at Sudhmahadev village in Udhampur’s Chenani area during a search by security forces, officials said. A probe is on. No one has been arrested so far.In Jammu’s Pragwal area, forces seized an aircraft shaped-balloon bearing the mark “PIA” — short for Pakistan International Airlines — from the border village Gurah Manhasa, the officials said.At Barmini on Jammu city’s outskirts, a man travelling in a Scorpio was arrested during checks, allegedly with an illegal 12-bore gun and two cartridges. Cops identified him as Sahil Singh and said further investigations are on.
