BENGALURU: City police have arrested a 41-year-old businessman on charges of assaulting a 65-year-old man in a road rage incident in Kengeri on Sunday evening. The accused has been identified as B. Naveen, a resident of RR Layout in Nagadevanahalli. Police records show that Naveen was arrested in a murder case reported in Jnanabharati in 2024, and the matter is currently pending in court. The incident occurred around 5.30 pm when Nanjundappa was walking near Naveen’s house. Naveen, who was driving his hatchback, reportedly became irritated on seeing Nanjundappa walking near his parking area outside the house. However, Nanjundappa was unaware that Naveen was about to park his car there. CCTV footage collected from nearby houses during the police investigation shows Naveen repeatedly honking at Nanjundappa. In response to the continuous honking, Nanjundappa gestured to Naveen to move ahead, as the road was otherwise empty. He also questioned him, asking why he was honking when he was walking on the extreme left and not blocking the car. Police said Naveen lost his temper, got out of the car, verbally abused Nanjundappa and began assaulting him. On hearing his cries for help, Naveen’s family members, including two women, came outside and attempted to stop the attack, but were unsuccessful. At one point, Naveen allegedly pushed Nanjundappa to the ground and continued attacking him while sitting on his chest. Neighbours, passers-by and other commuters gathered at the spot, pulled Naveen away and his family members took him inside the house. After receiving treatment for minor injuries at a local hospital, Nanjundappa filed a complaint with Kengeri police. Naveen was arrested and produced before a court on Monday. He was later remanded to judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison.
