Mumbai: Billabong High School in Santacruz West was evacuated at 10.05 am on Monday after it received an email threatening a bomb explosion on campus. The threat later proved to be a hoax. Suyog Amrutkar, an assistant police inspector from the Anti-Terrorist Squad, led his team to the campus and alerted the fire brigade and ambulance services. Within minutes, police, the fire brigade and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad reached the school.“The school premises were swiftly evacuated, with students, teachers and staff moved to safety without panic. Officers then launched a thorough search of the building and surrounding areas and, after an extensive sweep, confirmed that no explosive device had been found. The locality remains under strict security checks as a precaution,” said a Santacruz police.Adjacent structures were also evacuated, including Aajivasan Studio, owned by singer Suresh Wadkar, and a wedding hall in the same complex. Both premises, which often see considerable footfall, were cordoned off while bomb squads scanned every corner for potential threats. Multiple teams continued to inspect public access points across the area.
