MUMBAI: A 46-year-old app-based cab driver has lodged a police complaint against a road contractor and his employees for not adopting safety precautions while digging a road for repairs which left him with grievous injuries.The complainant, Parmanand Maurya, was walking down to his apartment in Borivli East at night when he fell over an exposed water pipeline in a dug-up patch, suffered a fracture and underwent subsequent surgical removal of his spleen.Kasturba Marg Police have registered an FIR againstfour persons and are probing the case further.The incident occurred on Dec 28, 2025, around 12.45am. Maurya had parked his app cab near a school and was walking down to his residence. Around 1am, when he reached his building, he noticed that there were no reflectors, barricades or precautionary signboards put up by the contractor.Groping in the dark, he fell over an exposed water pipeline in a dug-up patch. His family rushed him to a private hospital where he underwent X-rays and a CT-scan. Doctors said four of his ribs had broken and he had suffered internal bleeding. He was moved to another hospital in Mira Road, where he underwent a surgery to remove his spleen. Maurya was asked to take bed rest for four months and paid up nearly Rs 4 lakh in medical expenses.On Dec 30, Maurya’s brother called up the site supervisor and told him about the complainant’s injury. But the supervisor allegedly refused to extend any help and threatened the complainant’s brother to do whatever they could.The complainant then approached the police and got his statement recorded on Jan 19. An FIR was registered on Jan 28.
