MUMBAI: Gokul Dairy has increased the price of full cream milk (buffalo milk) by Rs 2 per litre, from Rs 74 to Rs 76 from today Feb 21.Cow milk and other variants remain unchanged at present, though a subsequent hike is not ruled out.Gokul Dairy’s managing director Yogesh Godbole told TOI, “The increase was necessitated by extreme shortage of green fodder [for milch animals] in the state. We have witnessed almost 10% drop in fodder availability in one month. Also, we have helped farmers by increasing the procurement price by Rs 3 per litre for buffalo milk (in one-rupee increments since Sept 2025) and Rs 2 for cow milk. However, we are not raising the sale price of cow milk as yet. We will determine the future course of action later. We are absorbing losses since five months, but after a certain limit, it is not sustainable.” Godbole said there was immense competition in the cow milk sector. “We did not intend to hike rates this month but the fodder situation landed upon us. Otherwise we were protecting the consumer so far. Climate change resulted in an early monsoon in May 2025 itself so we lost much of the fodder season.”
