Mumbai: The income tax department has set up a 24×7 control room in Mumbai to curb the misuse of money power during the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra, including those for the BMC, ensuring free and fair polls and maintaining the purity of the electoral process. It will function as part of the election monitoring mechanism and remain operational throughout the period the model code of conduct is in force.The control room aims to take effective action on credible information to prevent the misuse of money power. It has been established to enable conscientious citizens and residents of the state to provide information regarding the use of unaccounted cash, valuables or other inducements for electioneering purposes.
