Navi Mumbai: An FIR was registered at Kharghar police station against a 25-year-old woman for obstructing the police and the Panvel civic body’s static surveillance team (SST) from carrying out their election duty of vigilance during the model code of conduct for the Panvel City Municipal Corporation election, when the MUV in which she was travelling was stopped for inspection in Kharghar on Friday evening.Ajay Kamble, senior inspector of Kharghar, informed that the accused woman, identified as Manali Thakur, a tuition teacher residing in Kopra village, sector 10, Kharghar, was travelling in the MUV driven by her brother and accompanied by their mother. At around 6.45 pm, Thakur’s MUV was stopped for inspection near Hiranandani junction in Kharghar by the SST flying squad deployed for Kharghar ward numbers 4, 5, and 6. Thakur got annoyed and, after alighting from the vehicle, objected to the inspection of her vehicle on suspicion. She yelled at the SST officials and on-duty police officers, created a ruckus. She hurled expletives and even snatched the video camera of the official videographer and damaged it by banging it on the road.SI Kamble said, “Acting on a complaint by the SST official Janardan Sarde (44), who is a Morbe grampanchayat official, the accused, Thakur, was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault or criminal force used to deter a public servant from performing their duty, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions, the offence of mischief that outlines penalties for causing wrongful loss or damage to property, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation. She was served a notice under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and was summoned for further inquiry.”
