    Maharashtra records 1% drop in fatalities in first 11 months of 2025, Pune expressway sees 26% drop | Mumbai News

    Mumbai: As per transport department statistics released on Monday, fatalities on state roads and highways dropped between Jan and Nov this year compared with the same period last year. On state roads, deaths fell from 14,185 between Jan and Nov 2024 to 14,066 in the first 11 months of 2025, a decrease of 119 fatalities, or around 1%, said a senior transport official.On the Pune expressway, fatalities declined by 26%, from 82 deaths in 66 crashes in 2024 to 61 deaths in 54 crashes this year. “We have undertaken several preventive measures including enforcement and penalties for offenders which has helped us curb the crash rate on Pune expressway and the rest of the state,” said additional transport commissioner Bharat Kalaskar.The district-wise data showed a drop of 21% in road fatalities in Nagpur, 20% in Palghar, 17% drop in Amravati and 15% dip in Pune, 14% drop in Dhule 12% in Sambhaji Nagar. “We plan to curb crashes by 50% by 2030,” he added, while appealing to citizens to follow traffic rules in the interest of road safety.
