Thane: MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders on Tuesday met chief election officer and Thane municipal commissioner Saurabh Rao, accusing two returning officers (ROs) of rigging nominations to ensure Shiv Sena candidates were elected unopposed in several wards.MNS Thane-Palghar president Avinash Jadhav warned that if action is not taken within 24 hours, the party will stage a sit-in at the commissioner’s office. The allies complained separately to Rao that the police were used to pressure rivals into withdrawing, and that the ROs rejected independent and opposition nominations on trivial grounds.Former MP Rajan Vichare and district chief Kedar Dighe echoed the demand for a thorough inquiry and immediate transfers. Jadhav also mocked the Mahayuti manifesto, urging disclosure of money allegedly offered to opposition candidates to truly prove transparency.
