Mumbai: The CEO of a major film production company has made a police complaint against a former accountant for misappropriating Rs 65.8 lakh of his personal funds. Khar police have registered an FIR and are probing further.According to the FIR, the accused used to pay GST for his colleagues. The CEO asked him to pay GST on his behalf as well, since 2017. The CEO used to transfer money to his bank account via NEFT for making GST payments, but in 2021, the accountant quit the job. In 2024, the company’s CFO reminded the complainant to make his GST payments on time after which the CEO checked with the accused but he gave evasive responses. The CEO then asked the accused to hand over his login ID and password for the GST portal.He found that between 2019 and 2024, only Rs 9.75 lakh had been paid as GST when he had paid the accused a sum of Rs 56 lakh for making payments on his behalf. The accused had misappropriated Rs 46.2 lakh. The CEO then summoned the accused to his office and quizzed him in the CFO’s cabin. At this, the accused admitted to having used the sum for personal use. He wrote down a statement to this effect and signed it. In Oct 2024, the accused returned Rs 2 lakh to the CEO, but did not return a rupee thereafter.As per the FIR, the total dues combined with interest and penalty come up to Rs 65.8 lakh. The CEO then lodged a complaint with police.
