    Navi Mumbai: A newly-wed 34-year-old man from Panvel while riding a bike along the Mumbai-Goa highway was killed and his wife riding pillion sustained grievous injuries after a cement mixer truck heading towards Goa dashed the bike. The bike skidded on the bridge for about 20 meters. The trucker abandoned his vehicle on the bridge and escaped, but later surrendered at Wadkhal police station, informed police constable Rupesh Konde of Wadkhal police station.The fatal incident occured on Wednesday around 9.45 am, when the newly married couple from Panhalghar village in Mangaon taluka were heading home. The deceased man has been identified as Mahesh Jadhav and his injured wife as Sujata. Wadkhal police registered an FIR against the accused truck driver identified as Dilchand Kumar Chauhan (23), who hails from Bihar. Chauhan was heading towards a cement plant in Nagothane. He has been booked under relevant sections of BNS and Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving causing death.

    Konde said, “Jadhav and his Sujata had got married on Feb 17 and they resided in Panvel. Mahesh earned a living by transporting goods in his tempo. On Wednesday morning, the couple was riding on a bike to reach Jadhav’s native place in Panhalghar village, Mangaon taluka, where his parents reside. Unfortunately, when their bike reached on the bridge near Dolvi village, the fatal mishap occurred. The severely injured Sujata was treated at a private hospital in Wadkhal for two days after which she took discharge against medical advice claiming that she needs to conduct her husband’s final rights at his native place in Panhalghar village, Mangaon. The accused trucker Chauhan has not been arrested but served with a notice under BNSS section as per the provision of the law and has been directed to cooperate in police investigation whenever summoned for inquiry and during court trial.”
