Navi Mumbai: The Karnala Bird Sanctuary authorities have constructed five artificial lakes to provide adequate water supply to the birds and animals amidst the heat wave. The small pools constructed at five different locations in the last month are filled using water tankers to meet the summer season scarcity needs. The water supply will be made till the arrival of the rain, and a water tanker supply contractor has also been appointed for this purpose. The lakes were constructed using the grants of the district planning and development committee fund. The bird sanctuary located around 15 km away from Panvel along the Mumbai-Goa highway stretch houses 134–145 species of birds and 23 types of wild animals, including reptiles.
