Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued show-cause notices to 79 officers and employees who did not report for election duty at polling stations. A total of 1,151 polling stations were set up across 28 wards to elect 111 members, and appointment letters were issued to staff for various election duties. As per the letters, the absentees were instructed to appear at their designated polling stations within 24 hours of receiving the notice, failing which a case would be registered against them at the local police station, said NMMC commissioner Kailas Shinde. The directive noted that election work was to be done within a time-bound and prescribed time frame and that absenteeism was causing obstacles, evasion, haste, and delay.Shinde added that the NMMC administration is strictly enforcing all necessary measures to ensure the municipal elections scheduled on January 15 are conducted in an orderly manner, with required manpower made available for the entire process. Friday was the 3rd day of the filling of nomination forms, and only one nomination was submitted to date. So far, over 2,165 forms were distributed in the last three days.
