NOIDA: Drinks, shopping and dinner at a Korean restaurant — Saturday began on a romantic note for Lum Jianna and her South Korean live-in partner Duck Hea Yuh. It, however, did not end well.Hours later, Yuh (47) lay dead at Govt Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), stabbed by 22-year-old Jianna after an altercation over his drinking habits.
According to police, Jianna, arrested for the alleged murder, has told interrogators that she attacked Yuh after he allegedly threatened to kill her when she said she would leave the flat that they shared at ATS Pious Hideways in Sector 150 if did not mend his drinking habits.Yuh, who worked with a logistics company in Greater Noida for the past 10 years, continued to drink after they returned home around 11pm. The spat between the two began when Yuh refused to go off to sleep even at 3am.“Jianna told us she was frustrated with Yuh’s excessive drinking. When he continued to drink till early morning, Jianna told him she would leave the flat if he did not change his ways. The woman alleged Yuh became aggressive, picked up a knife from the dining table and threatened to kill her if she tried to leave,” the officer said.A heated argument followed. As it snowballed into a physical fight, Jianna allegedly picked up the knife and stabbed him repeatedly in the chest. As Yuh slumped to the ground, Jianna panicked and rushed downstairs, according to cops.“She claimed she asked people for help, but could not express herself properly. So, she called two of Yuh’s colleagues — a driver and an accountant — and took Yuh to GIMS along with them,” the officer said.By the time they reached GIMS, Yuh had died. “When his girlfriend came to know about his death, she quietly left the hospital without informing anyone,” the officer said. On Sunday morning, police received information about Yuh’s death from the hospital.According to police sources, Jianna accused Yuh of thrashing her almost every day, often over “trivial matters”. Yuh’s colleagues, police said, also corroborated there were earlier instances of the two fighting and Jianna leaving the Sector 150 flat.“She said she did not intend to kill him. Jianna first claimed Yuh slipped and accidentally fell on the knife. But the wounds clearly indicated a stabbing rather than a fall. Later, she admitted to the murder,” the officer said.Yuh, who was from Cheongju-si in South Korea, had met Jianna of Bishnupur in Manipur two years ago at a party in Gurgaon. They entered into a live-in relationship soon after. As Jianna was unemployed, Yuh apparently paid her a monthly amount. A FIR was filed against Jianna under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS at Knowledge Park station. She was produced before a court on Monday, and remanded in judicial custody.According to cops, an autopsy was conducted in the presence of South Korean embassy officials after Yuh’s family members refused to come. The body was also handed over to the embassy for further proceedings.“We have initiated an investigation into the sequence of events that led to the murder,” the officer said.
