‘He bats like his father’: Yograj Singh makes bold claim, asks Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun to focus on batting | Cricket News

'He bats like his father': Yograj Singh makes bold claim, asks Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun to focus on batting
Sachin Tendulkar and his son Arjun

NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has surprised fans with his comments about Arjun Tendulkar, the son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Yograj believes that Arjun is actually a better batter than people think, but coaches have mostly focused only on his bowling.

Inside details of why Shreyas Iyer’s return to cricket has been DELAYED

Speaking to Ravish Bisht on YouTube, he questioned why coaches were not paying attention to Arjun’s batting. He said, “You are focusing only on his bowling. What are you doing? What has happened? There are so many coaches, what are they doing? He is basically a batter. When he came to me, he was there for around 12-13 days.“I welcomed him. They told me to take care of him, and I told them not to worry. One day, he was hit by a ball, and we took him to a doctor, and he was fine. So, I told him to put on his pads instead to do some batting.” Yograj revealed that Arjun himself felt his batting was being ignored. He added, “He told me that they don’t focus on his batting. So, I said that we would see because I hadn’t seen him bat before. In the nets, he was hitting boundaries everywhere, and then I questioned his coach as to why he wasn’t given batting. I also told him that he is a batter of a great quality, he was batting as his father used to.”Arjun Tendulkar is often seen as a bowling all-rounder in domestic cricket. However, his batting numbers so far have not been very impressive. He averages 21.37 in first-class cricket, 18.25 in List A matches, and 13.5 in T20s. Still, he has shown promise with the bat. He scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Rajasthan in 2022 while batting at number seven. He also has two half-centuries in red-ball cricket. Recently, Arjun has been given more responsibility with the bat while playing for Goa. He has been asked to open the innings in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In Goa’s latest List A match against Mumbai, Arjun opened the innings and scored 24 runs off 27 balls before getting out to Shardul Thakur. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored only 70 runs in five innings, with an average of 14, which was disappointing.

The onus will be on the batters to come up with a spirited effort, which will be led by the opening pair of Muhammad Waeem and Andre Fletcher, both of whom are known for their aggressive batting at the top of the order.

Both Waseem and Fleycher would wish to begin in a similar fashion in order to get the opposition bowlers under pressure and lay a platform for the middle order to capitalize on.

Along with that, both batters would also want to make significent contribution on indiviual basis as well to gain confidence for the all-important final.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Tom Banton (wk), Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Kieron Pollard (c), Shakib Al Hasan, Dan Mousley, Romario Shepherd

The reason why MI Emirates’ middle order is talked about in the tournament is due to the presence of hard hitters like captain Kieron Pollard and all-rounder Romario Shepherd, both of whom have the ability to change the game on its head.

MIE also has the expierence of Shakib Al Hasan to rely on, along with Tom Banton, who has the expierence of playing in various leagues around the world.

Each of the aboe mentioned batters will have to put their best foot forward both while batting first and while chasing.

The reason being the variety of options that ADKR has at its dispossal meaning that the batters will have to bring their A game to counter them.

Bowlers: Allah Ghazanfar, Zahoor Khan, Fazalhaq Farooqi

The MI Emirates have a total of six bowling options in their arsnel including the more than handy, gentle medium pace of the captain of the team, Kieron Pollard.

If we talk about the five regular bowling option it includes bowlers like Zahoor Khan, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Romario Shepherd, who came up with an all-round performance in the Eliminator, Allah Ghazanfar, and experienced spinner Shakib Al Hasan.

Fazalhaq Farooqi and Zahoor Khan will take care of the team’s fast bowling department and are expected to take the new ball, meaning that they will be entrusted to pick wickets in the first six overs

The spin bowling department of MI Emirates will be handled by Shakib Al Hasan and Allah Ghazanfar, who will look to pick wickets in the middle phase of ADKR’s batting innings.

BARUIPUR: “I will make three ghosts walk,” said Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee as he ushered in three people on stage – two men from Metiabruz in Kolkata and a woman from Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas – who he said had been marked dead during the SIR of Bengal’s voter rolls. Flagging off Trinamool’s campaign for the 2026 assembly election with a rally in Baruipur on Friday, Abhishek made it clear that SIR would be the front-and-centre of the party’s poll pitch. Abhishek said, “The day before yesterday, we visited the EC’s office in Delhi. I asked (chief election commissioner) Gyanesh Kumar to publish the list of Bangladeshis whose names have been deleted. He couldn’t do it. Instead, he raised his finger at me. I told him, you are nominated, we are elected. Who are you showing aggression to?” “They thought Trinamool would go on the backfoot if they showed slight aggression. But, we have shown what it is to be a Bengali. One day Abhishek Banerjee went (to meet the CEC), Mamata Banerjee will go, too. Who will save you then?” Abhishek added. Introducing the three people – Monirul Islam Molla, Harikrishna Giri and Maya Das – who were marked ‘dead’, Abhishek said there were many more such instances. “In this (South 24 Parganas) district, 24 people who are alive have been shown dead by EC,” he said. The TMC leader in Lok Sabha then went on to slam BJP, saying: “In the name of logical discrepancies, 1.3 crore people were sent notices to attend SIR hearings. BJP can send (legal) notices to me and Trinamool workers. But why are notices being sent to common people? In 2016, they (BJP) made people stand in line for demonetisation. Ten years later, they are making them stand in line for SIR.”
