Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has made it clear that he is not feeling any added pressure heading into the Indian Premier League 2026 season, insisting that his primary focus remains on helping his team secure another title rather than chasing individual milestones.Gill, who currently leads India in Tests and ODIs, was notably left out of the T20I side to accommodate Sanju Samson at the top of the order. The decision proved effective, as India went on to win a record third Men’s T20 World Cup title at the Narendra Modi Stadium earlier this month, with Samson emerging as the Player of the Tournament.

Addressing the media ahead of the season, Gill emphasised that his performances over the past few years speak for themselves and that he does not feel the need to prove anything further.“Not at all. I think, if you look at the past three or four seasons, I have the most runs in IPL. So, I don’t think I have anything to prove, in this season particularly. The four years that I’ve played for this team, I think we have done decently well as a team, and I think I’ve done decently well as a batsman.“So, I don’t think I need to prove my worth to anyone. I think I need to do what I’ve been doing for the past four years. As a team, we need to be consistent, which I think we have been. If we continue doing that, sooner or later, I think we will win that trophy once more,” Gill said during a pre-season press conference on Thursday. The 26-year-old reiterated that personal achievements are not a driving factor for him, whether he is representing his franchise or the national team.“Honestly, I am not the one to look too much into personal goals, whatever team I am playing for, whether it be for my country or for Gujarat.“The team that I am playing for — I like them to win, and that is where my personal goal starts, and that’s where it ends. So, for me, I think the goal doesn’t change — make my team win as many matches as possible. Obviously, as a team, if you are playing in the IPL, you are playing to win it.“If you are playing a series, you are looking to beat the other teams in the series, so those are the goals that I look forward to, and I don’t really have my personal goals. Like right now, it’s obvious to win the IPL. Once that ends, obviously, we are going to have some other tournaments within the team. So my personal goals would change into that, and that’s how I like to look at my goals.”Gill has been in exceptional form in recent IPL seasons. In 2023, when Gujarat Titans reached the final, he clinched the Orange Cap with 890 runs at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. He followed it up with 426 runs in 2024 at an average of 38.73 and strike rate of 147.40, before scoring 650 runs in 2025 at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 155.88.With consistent performances behind him and leadership responsibilities on his shoulders, Gill enters IPL 2026 focused firmly on team success over individual accolades.

Strait Of Hormuz: Iran’s oil revenue soars as others struggle due to Strait of Hormuz crisis; how much is it earning daily?

Iran’s oil revenue soars as others struggle due to Strait of Hormuz crisis; how much is it earning daily?

Iran is benefitting twofold from the sale of oil amid rising prices since the start of the war as it is the only country to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran is estimated to have generated roughly $139 million per day from sales of this key blend so far in March, up from about $115 million per day in February, Bloomberg reported citing export estimates from TankerTrackers.com.Despite US and Israel’s continuous strikes on Iran, its crude exports are estimated to have stayed broadly in line with prewar levels of around 1.6 million barrels per day this month, the report said. Tankers carrying Iranian oil are still loading at the Kharg Island terminal and transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with activity picking up in recent days. Meanwhile the war-hit nation has blocked ships going to aggressor nations via Hormuz.

Iran’s crude has strengthened relative to the global Brent benchmark, with its discount narrowing to about $2.10 per barrel at the start of this week, the tightest level in nearly a year. Before the conflict, the gap had exceeded $10 per barrel..While countries such as Iraq and Kuwait have been forced to sharply curb output and the UAE and Saudi Arabia have rushed to find alternative export routes, Iran has continued shipping crude from the Persian Gulf, exporting about 1.6 million barrels a day on average between March 1 and 23, near prewar levels, after already recording unusually high shipments in February, the strongest since around July 2018.Oil facilities at Iran’s key export hub on Kharg Island have remained untouched by US strikes, which targeted only military sites, even as US President Donald Trump had indicated at attacking the island during the initial days of the war.Iran has warned US and Israel that Hormuz would be “completely shut” if its energy infrastructure is targeted. Trump halted attacks on its energy infrastructure till April 6 saying the talks are going very well“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,” he said.

PANAJI: The alleged sex scandal in Curchorem has intensified days after the arrest of 20-year-old Soham Sushant Naik, with the case now transferred to the crime branch for a detailed probe. Three FIRs have been registered so far, and statements of two survivors have been recorded. Investigators have found that both the accused and the survivors were minors at the time of the alleged incidents, which reportedly took place around three years ago when they were in college. Naik, a resident of Madhegal in Cacora and son of a councillor of the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council, was arrested following public outrage, with locals gathering outside the police station on Sunday demanding immediate action. South Goa SP Santosh Desai said that while one case was initially registered, two more FIRs were filed based on subsequent statements. The first FIR has been registered on behalf of the state. Police said Naik is being treated as the prime suspect and is currently under interrogation, while several others suspected to be linked to the case are also being questioned. Deputy inspector general of police Varsha Sharma, who reviewed the probe, said the additional FIRs were registered based on a survivor’s statement. She added that video clips recovered so far do not show the presence of survivors, and the accused’s mobile phone will be sent for forensic examination. Police said the investigation is being carried out from all angles and denied any political pressure in the case, maintaining that FIRs are being registered strictly based on complaints received. Naik has been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, the Information Technology Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, and the Goa Children’s Act. A local court remanded him to four-day police custody on Monday.

IPL doesn’t need MS Dhoni in 2026, claims ex-KKR star

The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin soon. As the league’s popularity grows year by year, with new teams and international players joining, former cricketers and experts have begun speculating about players like MS Dhoni, who will turn 45 this year.

Dhoni is currently the oldest player in the IPL, having represented his team since 2008 and played a total of 278 IPL matches, holding the record for the most appearances in the tournament’s history. He has represented Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant (2016–2017), scoring over 5,000 runs as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

However, since his surgery in 2023, Dhoni’s performance has declined; he has mostly played as an impact player or batted at number 7 or 8, typically in the final overs. In the last season, he averaged around 25 runs at a sub-par strike rate of 135.7 across 14 games.

The Role of MS Dhoni in Today’s IPL

Many Indian fans tune in to the IPL to watch players who have retired from international cricket, such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With new franchises emerging and auction prices rising every year, the league has evolved significantly.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra recently questioned whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) still requires Dhoni’s presence to maintain the league’s growth and popularity.

From 2023 to 2026: Will This Be MS Dhoni’s Last Season?

After CSK’s last title win, MS Dhoni said in the post-match presentation that he had “one more year of cricket left.” He later underwent knee surgery under sports medicine specialist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. When asked how long he planned to continue, Dhoni replied simply: at least another year.

As the 2026 season approaches, his longevity remains the sport’s biggest talking point. Chopra believes Dhoni’s self-awareness will dictate his exit. He told RevSportz: “Whenever Mahendra Singh Dhoni comes on the field, his reputation precedes him, and with that comes responsibility. He is playing because he loves the game. He has achieved everything there is to achieve. But the day he feels he is a liability if he can’t hit a six, drops catches, or misses stumpings he will leave on his own. He will say, ‘that’s it.’”

Does the IPL Still Need MS Dhoni?

Chopra raised the question: despite the league’s global popularity, is Dhoni’s presence still essential? He pointed out that the IPL has grown tremendously and does not depend solely on any single player. International interest in the league remains high, even as players leave other competitions, such as the PSL or ECB, to participate.

“With due respect to MS and others, the IPL has become incredibly big. A small child doesn’t learn to walk until you hold his finger. But holding his finger has helped him grow. Now he is running, and when he is running, he doesn’t need anyone to hold his finger. The ecosystem will not be significantly affected whether it is MS or someone else. The IPL can take care of itself,” Chopra said.

However, the decision of whether to play or not ultimately depends on MS Dhoni and the CSK team management. There is no doubt that his presence can influence any team’s performance, as we saw during the concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Dhoni was seen motivating the Indian team from the stands alongside last year’s World Cup-winning captain, Rohit Sharma, during the semi-final and final games against New Zealand and England.

No team would want to risk losing such a genius, who can even change the course of a match from the pavilion. Chennai Super Kings will play their first match of the season against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.

‘Prove me wrong’: Ex-India batter throws challenge to Ajinkya Rahane ahead of IPL 2026 | Cricket News

'Prove me wrong': Ex-India batter throws challenge to Ajinkya Rahane ahead of IPL 2026
Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Ajinkya Rahane (PTI Photo)

Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes Ajinkya Rahane has a significant point to prove heading into IPL 2026, especially in addressing long-standing doubts about his game beyond the powerplay.Rahane led Kolkata Knight Riders from the front with the bat in IPL 2025, finishing as their top run-scorer. He amassed 390 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 147.72. Despite those numbers, questions persisted around his ability to maintain scoring momentum once the field restrictions were lifted, particularly against spin, which many felt slowed KKR down at crucial stages.

Watch

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra admitted he has been among those who questioned Rahane’s effectiveness after the powerplay. However, he also sees the upcoming season as a chance for the KKR skipper to silence those criticisms.“Opportunities are plenty. Maybe Ajinkya Rahane, because I am one of those guys who have been slightly critical that he will have to be played in the powerplay as his role becomes extremely limited after that, but you can prove me wrong,” Chopra said.“It’s an opportunity. Not that you need to prove me wrong. Why would you even bother? However, if you score a lot of runs in the powerplay and after that as well, it’s a great opportunity for you,” he added.Chopra further pointed out the narrative surrounding KKR’s dependence on Gautam Gambhir, with some suggesting the franchise struggles to succeed without his influence as either a player or mentor. He believes Rahane now has the platform to counter that perception by guiding the team to a title. In the same discussion, Chopra highlighted the growing importance of Rinku Singh within the setup. Currently serving as vice-captain, Rinku could emerge as a leadership contender if he delivers consistently this season.“Rinku Singh is the vice-captain. Could be a potential captain by the next season. So there could be a huge role for him. He is always made to bat down the order. He might get the opportunity to bat slightly up the order this time, and he might flourish,” Chopra said.Chopra also turned his attention to Varun Chakaravarthy, stating that IPL 2026 offers him a chance to rediscover his wicket-taking rhythm.“It’s time for Varun Chakaravarthy to make people acknowledge his superiority once again because the last four matches in the World Cup were extremely cold. He has to come back to his wicket-taking self,” he observed.Varun ended the T20 World Cup 2026 as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in nine innings at an economy rate of 9.25. While he began the tournament strongly with nine wickets in India’s first four matches, his impact dipped later, managing just five scalps in the remaining games while conceding runs at a higher rate.

Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (PTI Photo)

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who turned 15 today, is already being counted among the most destructive hitters in Indian cricket and the Indian Premier League. His stunning 35-ball century in last season’s tournament was just the beginning, as he has continued to produce big runs and impactful innings across levels over the past year.Sooryavanshi’s rapid rise saw him make his India A debut towards the end of 2025, featuring in the ACC Rising Stars Asia Cup under the leadership of Jitesh Sharma. The tournament provided him early exposure to a senior dressing room, allowing him to interact with players on the fringes of the national side and further underlining his immense potential.

Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Jitesh shared insights into the youngster’s journey and the bond they developed, both during their India A stint and from Sooryavanshi’s time at the Rajasthan Royals academy near Nagpur.“Today he told me, bhaiya if you say something about me then watch out,” joked Jitesh. “Very cute boy. He used to come to Talegaon for practice, where RR’s academy is. That’s where I got to know him, then we went to play in Qatar, where I was captain, so that’s where we made our bond.”When asked about the source of Sooryavanshi’s remarkable hitting power, Jitesh pointed to his natural strength, particularly his wrists.“It’s all natural power, he’s very strong. His wrists are bigger than my wrists – I gave him my watch to wear and it was tight for him,” he said, highlighting the physical attributes behind the youngster’s explosive batting.“Chhota Hulk hai woh (he’s baby Hulk),” Jitesh added, drawing a comparison to the iconic Marvel character. The description fits, considering Sooryavanshi smashed 11 sixes during his IPL hundred and has consistently relied on big hitting to dominate bowlers.Jitesh also revealed the fear factor the youngster has already created among bowlers in the nets.“He swings his bat so hard that the bowler is afraid that if he hits it straight, he might die. RR’s nets bowlers, I know them, they say that they don’t pitch the ball up because he can hit it straight back. So they bowl short balls to have him hit it away from them,” he explained. With Sanju Samson no longer in the setup, Sooryavanshi is set to take up a regular role at the top of the order for Rajasthan Royals. He will be part of a youthful batting unit featuring Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Riyan Parag, both of whom understand the pressures of performing early in their careers.“He’s created that fear. He’s like Nicholas Pooran, lefty-lefty, very hard hitter. You have the fear that he can hit you,” said Jitesh, comparing him to Nicholas Pooran. “And Nicholas also listens to Hindi songs,” he added humorously.Turning 15 just a day before IPL 2026 begins, Sooryavanshi heads into his second season with massive expectations. Oppositions are likely to come prepared with specific plans, targeting him with short balls, slower deliveries and wider lines. How the young batter from Bihar adapts to these challenges could shape the impact he makes in the upcoming season.

Blade, blood and a locked shutter: What happened inside Kolkata parlour; new chilling details pour out | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The beauty parlour owner who was hacked to death inside the salon at Mahamayatala near Garia on Tuesday, appears to have attempted to ward off the assailant with a blade before he managed to turn it on her and inflict fatal injuries. The assailant, a man from Haryana, thereafter turned the blade on himself, made a cut in his throat, and bled to death. Both bodies were found in the parlour on Tuesday.Cops said the fact that a blade from the parlour was used for the murder and suicide indicated that perhaps the killing wasn’t premeditated.Police said parlour owner Rupbani Das (50) had multiple slash wounds on her body and had bled to death. Blood spatters all over the parlour indicated a violent struggle. Cops suspect that Rupbani may have picked up a blade from the parlour to ward off Rohtak resident Pankaj Nath (44), whom she met on social media a couple of years ago. Sources said there were a couple of blade wounds on Pankaj, indicating that she possibly slashed at him before he managed to overpower her, grab the blade, and strike her, leading to gashes that caused her death. He then slashed his own throat. Even while attempting suicide, he tried to reach for the parlour shutter he had pulled down but was unable to. He was found in a pool of blood, lying against the shutter. An employee of the parlour who was turned out by Pankaj heard a heated exchange between the two.Police are also trying to find out if Rupbani told her husband Anup that she feared Pankaj as the former had started dropping her off at the parlour. For the 15 years that Rupbani has been operating the parlour, she has been travelling to and fro on her own. It was recently, after she returned from Haryana, that Anup had been dropping her off.Sources said that after the initial social media friendship between Rupbani and Pankaj, they developed a relationship. According to investigators, Pankaj was besotted and came to visit her in Kolkata some time ago. He then urged her to travel to Rohtak, where, he allegedly said her business would flourish and she could earn up to Rs 1 lakh a month. It isn’t clear if it was the lure of money or an affair that led to her travelling to Rohtak with him. But what is clear is that after a couple of months, the relationship turn sour and she returned to Kolkata.
