NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl against Ishan Kishan-led Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL clash on Sunday.LSG, who lost their opening match of the season to Delhi Capitals, made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Manimaran Siddharth in place of Anrich Nortje.“We are looking to bowl first. The wicket is good, but at the same time, you know, their main strength is batting. So, let them bat first. We can put them under pressure in the second innings. We keep on coming here every year, that’s not a new challenge. But at the same time, this is one team which can hurt you well. But at the same time, whoever plays the better cricket will win,” Pant said.

“(On the conditions) It looks like a good wicket for sure. But at the same time, there is something in the wicket. After the powerplay, I think it might stick into the wicket as much. The ball will get older and it’s going to be harder to score. Just one change, Sid (Manimaran Siddharth) comes in for Nortje. (Will you open today?) We’ll see, we’ll see,” he added.Sunrisers Hyderabad, who lost their opener to Royal Challengers Bengaluru before bouncing back against Kolkata Knight Riders, also made changes to their side.Kishan brought in England all-rounder Liam Livingstone, who was signed for Rs 13 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, along with Harshal Patel.“(Playing in Hyderabad) Very happy. It’s always good to get your home support and the crowd loves the SRH team. So yeah, very happy to be here. There are just two changes. Livingstone comes in and Harshal Patel comes in. Harshal Patel, he’s done well whenever he’s bowled here. And Livi, giving him an opportunity to use his off-spin as well against the left-handers,” Kishan said.“In T20 especially, execution is the most important thing. You need to be in a good headspace, calm and try to save as many runs as we can. So just plan well and execute your balls. And I think let’s see how it goes from there. It’s really important for us to get these two points. But at the same time, we need to be calm, take one match at a time. And that is the whole plan. Be in a good headspace, like I said earlier, and just play your best game possible,” he added.Teams:Sunrisers Hyderabad: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (w/c), Heinrich Klaasen, Liam Livingstone, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, Harshal Patel, and Jaydev Unadkat.Lucknow Super Giants: Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, Mukul Choudhary, Manimaran Siddharth, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Shami, Digvesh Singh Rathi, and Prince Yadav. Here are the Impact substitutes for both the teams:Sunrisers Hyderabad Impact subs: Eshan Malinga, Salil Arora, David Payne, Shivam Mavi, Zeeshan AnsariLucknow Super Giants Impact subs: Ayush Badoni, Matthew Breetzke, Shahbaz Ahmed, Anrich Nortje, Himmat SinghAlso See: RCB vs CSK Live Score

Will probe how CDR in arrested astrologer Ashok Kharat case landed in private hands: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis | Mumbai News

Nashik: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the state home portfolio, said on Sunday that the government will conduct an inquiry into how the Call Detail Records (CDR) of rape-accused astrologer Ashok Kharat landed in the hands of private individuals. Fadnavis also stated that Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken cognisance of Kharat’s bank accounts and properties, noting that the agency’s inquiry is already underway. The CDR issue comes against the backdrop of claims made by activist Anjali Damania on April 3. Damania alleged that she received CDRs from anonymous sources showing that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made 17 calls to Kharat in the past. Several other politicians also allegedly contacted Kharat during an unspecified period, she claimed. A political row has erupted over Damania’s claims, with Shiv Sena ministers and leaders questioning how sensitive information was leaked to a third party and whether it was part of an attempt to politically corner Shinde.Fadnavis told reporters on the sidelines of a ‘Sant Sammelan’ in Nashik, “First of all, obtaining CDRs falls within the exclusive domain of investigating agencies. The state govt will definitely inquire into how the CDR was leaked and who leaked it to private individuals.”Fadnavis said the judicial system relies on strong evidence rather than private conversations. “Justice demands strong evidence, not just allegations and counter-allegations or who contacted whom. Action will be taken only against those who were party to the heinous crimes committed by Ashok Kharat,” the CM said.Asked about the ED inquiry into Kharat’s properties and accounts, he said, “The SIT is doing a good job and has unearthed many details about Kharat. The SIT has won the confidence of the people, who are coming forward to register complaints—12 so far—and share information. According to my information, the ED has started its inquiry after taking cognisance of the findings so far. Once the land properties are mapped, the state government will also take appropriate steps. While addressing the gathering of seers and sages, Fadnavis added that the govt is spending Rs 30,000 crore—an amount that could rise to Rs 35,000 crore—to develop infrastructure in the city for the forthcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

Police bust gas cylinder theft racket across Mumbai Metropolitan Region | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Powai police busted a gas cylinder theft racket operating across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane, seized 45 stolen gas cylinders and arrested a habitual offender involved in multiple theft cases.Police said the racket came to light after a motorcycle theft was registered at Powai Police Station. During the investigation, police found that the stolen two-wheeler was used to carry out gas cylinder thefts at various locations. Based on technical surveillance and inputs from informants, police arrested Raj Chandrakant Kamble (18), a resident of Thane, and recovered the stolen motorcycle used in the crimes. The accused was involved in at least 15 theft cases registered across several police stations. A Powai police officer said that during the probe they found out that the gang got activated and was involved in stealing gas cylinders ever since the Iran war broke out. The stolen cylinders are sold at higher price to those who want the cylinder immediately. “LPG cylinder thefts have increased in Mumbai amid shortages caused by West Asia conflict-related supply disruptions. Major incidents include 27 cylinders stolen from a parked delivery tempo in Charkop and the recovery of 45 cylinders by Powai police. Residents have resorted to chaining cylinders for security,” said the officer.

Fresh objections to 52 MLD tank plan in Malabar Hill | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Days after TOI reported about how the BMC has zeroed in on a 52 MLD alternate tank as part of its Malabar Hill reservoir reconstruction plan, residents have raised fresh red flags over its potential environmental cost. At a meeting held on Sunday evening, locals voiced concerns that the proposed alternate tank could once again come at the expense of the area’s green cover. The project is likely to involve the cutting and transplantation of several trees — an assurance that residents say does little to allay fears about long-term ecological damage. The residents have now decided to formally write to the civic body, objecting to the proposal and questioning the need and rationale behind the plan. The concerns echo an earlier flashpoint. In Sept 2023, the BMC was forced to shelve its plan to completely demolish and rebuild the reservoir after widespread public opposition, as the move threatened the iconic Hanging Gardens located above it. Authorities subsequently pivoted to a phased repair strategy, which hinges on the alternate reservoir being made operational first.“There is no need for an alternate tank. The reservoir can be repaired in phases by isolating sections, with the remaining capacity proving sufficient. We will write to the BMC and seek a meeting on the issue. This is a large project that will impact the entire locality. No expert has stated that an alternate tank must be built at the same site,” said a resident present at the meeting.Last week, the civic water supply projects department presented multiple options for AJ alternate water tank, of which a three-level structure—comprising an underground tank, a ground-level tank, and an upper-level tank—was selected. Under the plan, water will be routed through the ground-level tank and pumped upward to ensure uninterrupted supply when sections of the existing reservoir are shut for repairs.

Padikkal then took charge, compiling a fluent 50 off 29 balls to anchor the innings. However, the real carnage unfolded in the death overs. Following Padikkal’s dismissal, skipper Rajat Patidar joined forces with Tim David, and the duo unleashed a brutal assault. Patidar played the perfect foil with a blistering 48* off 19 deliveries as RCB surged to a massive 250/3.In reply, CSK’s chase got off to a shaky start. Jacob Duffy struck early to remove both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Ayush Mhatre to leave them reeling. Despite the early setbacks, Sarfaraz Khan launched a stunning counterattack, racing to a 24-ball fifty and propelling CSK to 77 in the PowerPlay.Just when CSK looked to rebuild, Krunal Pandya turned the game on its head, dismissing Sarfaraz with his very first delivery and removing Kartik Sharma soon after. A spectacular one-handed catch by Jitesh Sharma to dismiss Shivam Dube further dented the chase.Though Prashant Veer (43) and Jamie Overton (37) offered resistance, the required rate kept climbing. Bhuvneshwar (3/41) and Krunal (2/36) ensured regular breakthroughs, while Suyash Sharma impressed with his control.CSK were eventually bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, falling well short. With this emphatic win, RCB not only extend their winning streak but also reinforce their status as early title contenders. On the other hand, CSK now find themselves at the bottom of the table with three back-to-back defeats in the new season.
