Mumbai: Two youths from Gujarat who smuggled 422 grams of hydroponic weed worth Rs 42 lakh from Bangkok were nabbed by customs officials at the Mumbai airport. The officials of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), acting on specific intelligence, intercepted Aman Pareshbhai Thumar (20) and Darshit Ratilal Ginoya (19) after they arrived at CSM International Airport, Mumbai, from Bangkok on Sunday. Customs officials conducted the personal search of both passengers but no contraband was found on them. However, during examination of checked-in baggage, officers opened a black trolley bag being carried by Ginoya but booked in Thumar’s name. The bag was found to contain 10 plastic packets concealed among chocolates.On testing the contents with a field testing kit, the substance tested positive for hydroponic weed (cannabis). The total net weight of the seized contraband was 422 grams, which officials believe was smuggled into India in violation of the NDPS Act. The seized cannabis is estimated to be worth Rs 42.20 lakh in the illicit market. Both have been booked under the NDPS act.
