MUMBAI: A woman intern doctor at Cooper Hospital was assaulted by an intoxicated patient in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the hospital officials. The alleged assault occurred around 4am when the 23-year-old intern was examining the drunk patient. A doctor who was part of the intern’s association said the intern initially expressed discomfort and felt unsafe, as the patient was aggressive from the start. “The chief medical officer asked her to check the vitals. Just as she was doing that, the patient kicked her in the chest twice.”The incident also sparked accusations that the hospital administration attempted to dissuade her from reporting the attack to the police. There was no confirmation by press time if a complaint was registered.Meanwhile, Dean Dr Dev Shetty said the incident was a minor altercation and that the hospital left it to the woman to decide if she wished to file a police complaint.
