Ayushman Bharat crosses 43 crore cards, digital health records surge

New Delhi: India’s flagship health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which provides ₹5 lakh annual cover per family for hospitalisation, has issued over 43.5 crore health cards so far, including 1.14 crore for senior citizens aged 70 and above, the govt said on Tuesday. More than 36,000 hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme, offering cashless treatment for nearly 2,000 procedures across 27 specialties. Since its launch, over 11.6 crore hospital admissions worth ₹1.73 lakh crore have been authorised. Meanwhile, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has created over 86 crore health IDs, with more than 90 crore health records linked digitally. Over 2.5 lakh health facilities are now using ABDM-enabled software, indicating a rapid push towards a nationwide digital health ecosystem.
