THANE: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a 29-year-old junior engineer from the Public Works Department in Maharashtra’s Raigad district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from a contractor, officials said on Tuesday. The contractor had carried out work related to the construction of a roadside drain slab at Murud-Ekdara, Rajapuri and Khokhri in 2024. After completing the project, he approached the department for clearance of his final bill. Police said the accused, identified as Shraddha D. Borhade, allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh to process the payment. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 2.5 lakh, said Sarita I. S. Bhosale, Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB Raigad. The contractor then lodged a complaint with the ACB, following which officials laid a trap. On Monday, Borhade was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at her office. She has been booked under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, officials said.
