Maharashtra municipal corporation polls: Thane election department finds 16,574 duplicate voters after scrutiny of electoral rolls | Mumbai News

    -

Thane: As many as 16,574 voters from Thane were marked as ‘duplicate’ after their names and photographs appeared more than once in the electoral rolls, following a scrutiny by the Thane election department, officials informed on Sunday. The administration started a review of around 83,645 potential duplicate voters in the rolls. The examination revealed that in 67,071 cases of possible duplicate voters, the names and photographs did not match, and therefore, they cannot be considered duplicates.“Following the review, the double asterisk mark against 16,574 duplicate voters will be retained in the electoral rolls, while those in front of the others will be removed. Those voters who have been marked as duplicate will be allowed to cast their vote, but only after submitting an undertaking in the prescribed format declaring that they are voting only once for the current elections,” said deputy commissioner Umesh Birari.
