BRO entrusted with task of developing infra along 1600-km Myanmar border: Rajnath at parl panel meet

NEW DELHI: Stressing the need for robust infrastructure along the borders, defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been entrusted with the task of developing infrastructure along the Indo-Myanmar border, spanning approximately 1,600 km, an initiative that will further bolster the border management capabilities.Rajnath, who chaired a parliamentary consultative committee meeting for the defence ministry on BRO here on Wednesday, asserted that through this network, all-weather connectivity is being ensured even in remote and high-altitude regions, thereby strengthening the operational mobility and defence preparedness. The progress under Border Roads Development Programme 2023-28, under which over 1,000 road and infrastructure projects are being executed, including new construction, upgradation and maintenance works to further strengthen border connectivity, was also discussed during the meeting. The minister also hailed the efforts of the BRO towards enhancing connectivity in the north-eastern region and in areas affected by Left-wing extremism, thereby contributing to security and regional development. “The BRO has facilitated the mobility of defence forces, and worked towards bringing a positive transformation in the lives of the residents,” he said. Insightful deliberations were held on issues pertaining to defence, infrastructure development and ongoing strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening national security and operational preparedness.Drawing the attention of the parliamentary consultative committee members to the crucial aspect of ‘technology utilisation’, the minister said BRO is rapidly adopting modern construction techniques by making best use of technologies such as high altitude equipment, modular bridges, and precast technologies.“The BRO has enhanced both the quality and the pace of its work. This demonstrates that we are building future-ready infrastructure,” he said. He reiterated the govt’s commitment to strengthen the BRO in terms of budgetary support, modern equipment and initiatives aimed at the welfare of their personnel. BRO, established in 1960, has constructed over 64,000 km of roads, 1,179 bridges, 22 airfields and seven tunnels, significantly enhancing operational readiness and socio-economic development in border areas.

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 has already been in the spotlight for several off-field issues even before the tournament begins. From a fuel crisis to scheduling changes, the buildup has been far from smooth. Now, an awkward moment at the captains’ press conference has added to the drama.During the pre-tournament media interaction on Wednesday, Karachi Kings captain David Warner appeared visibly annoyed with fellow captains who were chatting and laughing while he was speaking. As he discussed his team’s chances, he suddenly paused and called them out. “What’s wrong? Sorry, gentlemen, we have got school kids here,” he said.Watch:The comment highlighted his frustration over the lack of attention and professionalism during the event.Beyond the press conference incident, the tournament itself is dealing with major challenges. Due to a fuel crisis linked to ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to hold matches with restrictions and limit travel.PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained the situation, saying, “The Prime Minister requested all of Pakistan to restrict their movements because of the fuel crisis. We closed schools and instituted work from home and increased the number of Eid holidays. We don’t know how long this war will last.”As a result, the PSL has been scaled down, with matches now set to be played only in Lahore and Karachi instead of multiple venues. The opening ceremony has also been cancelled.Despite all the disruptions, the tournament is scheduled to begin on March 26 and run until May 3, though uncertainties still remain around how smoothly it will be conducted.

EAM Jaishankar: Israel helped us during conflicts; key to defence tech | India News

EAM Jaishankar: Israel helped us during conflicts; key to defence tech

NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said Israel had helped India in military conflicts and been a reliable source of defence technology, even as he maintained that ties with Iran remained friendly, pointing to the latter’s decision to allow passage of four Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz. His assertion at the all-party meeting about close ties came in response to a question from NCP’s Supriya Sule about the benefits of relations with US and Israel, said sources. While the US is a big trading partner of India and a source of high-end technology, Israel is a leading technological ally and has helped India during military conflicts, sources quoted the minister as saying at the meeting. While the minister did not elaborate, his comment on Israeli assistance during military conflicts was seen as referring to the help that Israel had speedily provided during confrontations with Pakistan. While Israeli assistance is hardly a secret, this was the first time that the minister, going by sources, had confirmed the same, although in an in camera meeting. The minister’s statement and its trigger came against the backdrop of suggestions of a tilt towards US-Israel that seemed to underpin questions of representatives of opposition parties.Jaishankar dismissed the charge that India had maintained silence over the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and had delayed offering condolences. He said that foreign secretary Vikram Misri had signed the condolence book the day it was opened. While denying that the decision not to condemn the attack on Iran has damaged ties with the Shiite country, the minister said that govt had to take into account the “outrage” in the UAE and Saudi Arabia over the damage caused by Iranian drones and missiles. He said over 8 million Indians work in these two countries.Jaishankar also said that Iran had expressed considerable appreciation for India saving its naval ship, IRIS Lavan, by allowing it to anchor at Kochi port when a US nuclear submarine that had sunk a sister ship, IRIS Dena, was lurking in the Indian Ocean. The minister said that IRIS Dena would also have survived if it had availed of India’s offer of safe harbour and not drifted towards international waters, where it was hit by a torpedo fired by the US submarine.Govt functionaries noted in the meeting that Iran had allowed four Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which it has blocked since the war broke out, and five more were on the way.

Iran claims to have ‘successfully targeted’ American F-18 fighter jet, shares video

Iran claims to have 'successfully targeted' American F-18 fighter jet, shares video
Video shared by Iran’s press TV

Iran on Wednesday claimed that it shot down as US fighter jet amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Iran’s state affiliated media Press TV shared a footage on X showing the apparent crash. In the clip, a jet (that Iran claims is US F-18) was ‘successfully’ shot down. “Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announces that it has successfully targeted an American F-18 fighter jet,” said the Iranian media, while sharing the video. This comes just hours after Iran rejected a US proposal on “ceasefire” and warned that strikes will continue till their own demands are met. Iran has dismissed a US 15-point proposal, saying any ceasefire will happen only on its “own terms and timeline,” a senior official told Press TV. “Iran says it will end the war when it decides it should, not when Trump envisions its conclusion,” the official added.

Tiger Woods made his return to competitive golf after more than a year, and this time, it was not just about the game. Just before he stepped onto the course, Vanessa Trump stood beside him, showing her support in a very personal way. The two shared a quick kiss and hug, a moment that caught attention right away. It happened on Tuesday, March 24, at the TGL finals in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This was a big moment for Woods. The 50-year-old golfer had been away from full competition since April 2024 due to injuries. So when he finally returned, people were already watching closely. And with Vanessa Trump there, along with her daughter Kai Trump, the moment felt even more special.Vanessa, who was earlier married to Donald Trump Jr., has been quietly dating Woods for the past few months. Now, their bond is becoming more public, and this appearance made that clear.

Tiger Woods returns at TGL finals as Vanessa Trump and Kai Trump cheer from stands during comeback match

Tiger Woods played for Jupiter Links in the TGL finals, facing Los Angeles Golf Club in a best-of-three series. Just before he teed off at the SoFi Center, Vanessa Trump walked up to him, hugged him, and gave him a kiss. It was simple, but it showed strong support before a big match.During the game, Vanessa and her 18-year-old daughter Kai Trump stayed in the stands, clapping and cheering. Kai, who is also a junior golfer and committed to the University of Miami, followed the match closely. Even though Woods’ team lost 9-2 to Los Angeles Golf Club, the focus stayed on his return and the support around him.Woods had not played four full rounds since The Masters in April 2024. He has been dealing with recovery since then. Speaking earlier, he shared how tough the process has been. He said, “I said I’ve been working on it. Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disc replacement is not a lot of fun.”In another update earlier this year, he told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, “I’ve been cleared to hit, basically, hit short irons and mid irons. I haven’t gone any beyond that.” He also admitted his game felt “rusty.”Away from the course, Woods has been spending time with Vanessa Trump. In January, she was with him during his 50th birthday celebration, which also marked the 30th anniversary of his TGR Foundation. According to PEOPLE, the event raised around $50 million for charity and was held at The Breakers Palm Beach.A source told PEOPLE, “Tiger was with Vanessa but also busy talking to people he knows from the charity. There was some serious partying going down all night… They seemed to have a great time.”Their relationship was first confirmed in March 2025 by a source close to the Trump family, again reported by PEOPLE. Soon after, the two made it official on Instagram. Now, with Woods back on the course and Vanessa by his side, this return feels different. It is not just about golf anymore. It is also about the people supporting him through it.

‘One vengeance for all’: Iran’s AI video targets ‘Statue of Liberty’ in fiery nuclear warning

‘One vengeance for all’: Iran’s AI video targets 'Statue of Liberty' in fiery nuclear warning

Iranian state media reportedly released a provocative AI‑generated video titled “One Vengeance For All” that stitches together images of US‑linked wars and atrocities before showing a missile obliterating a demonic version of the Statue of Liberty, escalating the information war around the ongoing Iran–US–Israel conflict. The 53–54 second montage, attributed to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB and promoted by other pro‑Tehran outlets, uses AI‑generated visuals to depict a historical trail of US military involvement and alleged abuses.Sequences invoke Native American dispossession, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the Vietnam War, and more recent conflicts in Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza and wider Palestine, casting Washington as the common thread behind global suffering. In its closing seconds, the video shows a missile launched under the gaze of Iran’s leadership striking a reimagined Statue of Liberty whose head has been replaced by Baal, a horned figure drawn from demonised interpretations of ancient religions. The Quranic narrative contrasts Baal worship with the worship of Allah, the true Creator.

‘Negotiations With Bombs’: Trump’s HUGE Iran Announcement Amid Strikes On US Bases | Watch

The clip ends on the slogan “One vengeance for all”, framing any future Iranian retaliation as being carried out on behalf of “all the oppressed in the world”, a line echoed in accompanying Farsi captions shared by Iranian outlets.

Context of rising tensions

The AI video surfaces amid an already volatile standoff following Israeli‑US strikes on Iranian targets and Tehran’s vows of “global retaliation”.Iranian officials and semi‑official media have in recent weeks sharpened their rhetoric, portraying the United States as ultimately responsible for what they describe as decades of destabilisation across West Asia and beyond.US forces, meanwhile, have been reinforcing their posture in the region, including deployments of additional airborne units, warships and troops to key bases, even as Washington publicly warns Tehran against escalating attacks on American or allied assets.Analysts say the “One Vengeance For All” video is calibrated to signal that any forthcoming strike by Iran would be framed not as a limited reprisal, but as part of a broader confrontation with what Tehran calls the “predatory West”.

‘Cricket is my passion. No one can take this away from me’: Prithvi Shaw | Cricket News

'Cricket is my passion. No one can take this away from me': Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw. (File photo)

NEW DELHI: “I like to be in the present.” That sums up Prithvi Shaw’s outlook after a turbulent phase that saw him lose his IPL spot and his place in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad. Back after a mental reset, the Delhi Capitals batter is choosing clarity over noise.“Last year when I didn’t play IPL, I enjoyed my life a lot. I went to a couple of places to refresh my mind a little, and then I came back. The same routine, I practised, worked hard… whatever I used to do, I started doing it three times. And I think it was a good break for me. I can’t say that I took a step back,” Shaw told reporters ahead of Delhi Capitals’ intra-squad match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

For Shaw, the time away helped him reset mentally and reconnect with his personal life.“It was just a needed break, so that I can strengthen myself mentally. It was a good break and I enjoyed it a lot. I got a lot of family time, so I was happy with it.”Shaw, who has played 79 matches for Delhi Capitals since joining the franchise in 2018, found no takers in 2025. In IPL 2023 and 2024, his performances dipped as he failed to cross 200 runs in both seasons and was later dropped from the side. While admitting that the past few IPL seasons haven’t been ideal, he remains grounded about expectations. “In the last couple of years, IPL didn’t go very well for me. Not really bad, not really good. But obviously, people do expect a lot, especially when it comes to an opening batter.”For Shaw, the solution lies in going back to basics, with an emphasis on quality over quantity.“You have to give your 100% during practice… So, overall, it comes down to practice and hard work. And there should be quality practice… at some stage, you have to have quality practice.”Having been labelled a prodigy from a young age, Shaw addressed external expectations and admitted to making mistakes.“Sir, I didn’t write this. That I am this, I am that. I am a human being. I will make mistakes. And obviously, whatever is written outside, they know only half of it. My family knows me. I have kept as many friends in my life as my fingers, so they know me inside out. Whenever there were good things in social media or papers, or bad things, I was very young, obviously,” the DC batter said.“If you see social media every time, I come. If you see in the paper, I come. So, I stopped seeing those things. These were the things that kept me away from all this. And I had belief in myself because I know where I have come from and how hard I have worked. Humans make mistakes. You have also made mistakes in your life.”“I have also made mistakes. That’s it. It’s okay. Move ahead. That’s history. All that has happened. It’s been many years. I must have made some mistakes in my life. And I feel this is the time where I am very happy mentally. I love coming to the ground. This is my passion, and no one can take this away from me, no matter how much anyone writes about me,” he said.Shaw, who has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I, admitted that one of the toughest phases came when he was dropped from the Mumbai team, a decision he disagreed with. He was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side last year due to poor fitness and lack of discipline. His fitness and discipline issues, however, have made more headlines than his performances in recent months, and Shaw also went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.“The reason that was given to me was not valid according to me. So even at that time, I smiled and left. I said, it’s okay,” he recalled.“I didn’t talk to the selector. I didn’t talk to the president. I didn’t talk to anyone.”“Maharashtra was a little close to Mumbai, and I had friends over there, so I went there. And it was very good,” said Shaw.Shaw did reasonably well for Maharashtra. The right-handed batter scored 537 runs in seven matches, including a double hundred. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he managed 193 runs in six games, and in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he amassed 183 runs in seven outings, with a strike rate of 160.The numbers are not eye-catching, but he got the opportunity to play, which was important for him, and it has also changed his approach to life.“I feel we think a lot about the future… I like to be in the present,” he said.Shaw also spoke about keeping his support system limited.“For me, if someone has reached out to me through WhatsApp or call, even if someone hasn’t, it doesn’t matter if they want the best for me.”“I used to talk to my coach, Prashant Shetty, and my family was there with me in those times. And that’s it. I don’t talk to anyone else.”Shaw admitted that he still has the desire to play for India, and his ultimate ambition remains unchanged.“If I don’t think of a comeback, it will be wrong because I am playing for that. Obviously, who wouldn’t want to play for India?”“I used to keep targets, but when you can’t achieve them, you feel more pressure. So, I am a present person. I like to be here right now, talking to you guys.”Prithvi is likely to open with KL Rahul for the Delhi Capitals. The Axar Patel-led team will start their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on April 1.

Allahabad HC grants anticipatory bail to Avimukteshwaranand in POCSO case | India News

Allahabad HC grants anticipatory bail to Avimukteshwaranand in POCSO case

The Allahabad high court granted anticipatory bail to seer Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati and his disciple Mukundanand Brahmachari in a case involving allegations of sexual exploitation of minors under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.The relief was granted on Wednesday by justice Jitendra Kumar Sinha, who also directed both the complainant and the accused to refrain from making any public statements about the case. The court allowed the anticipatory bail pleas while emphasising that the investigation must proceed without external influence. Alongside granting relief from arrest, the court imposed a gag order on both sides, restraining them from speaking to the media on the matter. The order comes weeks after the court had reserved its judgment following detailed hearings and had earlier extended interim protection from arrest to the accused.

Interim protection and court observations

On February 27, the High Court had stayed the arrest of Avimukteshwaranand, directing that he would not be taken into custody until the final order was pronounced. During the proceedings, the court had also instructed both the state government and the complainant to file their responses and asked the accused to cooperate fully with the investigation.

Allegations and FIR details

The case stems from an FIR registered at Jhunsi police station in Prayagraj, following directions from a POCSO court. The complaint alleges sexual exploitation of several ‘batuks’ (young disciples) associated with the ashram. The complainant, Ashutosh Pandey alias Ashutosh Brahmachari, has claimed that minors were subjected to abuse, expressing hope that “justice would be served after the evidence was submitted in court.”

Defence and prosecution arguments

The defence has strongly denied the allegations, calling them fabricated. It argued that the complainant has a criminal background and claimed that the alleged victims never resided at the seer’s ashram. The seer also questioned the authenticity of medical reports and accused the complainant of attempting to influence the case.In a notable submission, Avimukteshwaranand expressed willingness to undergo a narcoanalysis test to establish his innocence. The state, however, opposed the anticipatory bail plea on procedural grounds, arguing that the accused had approached the high court directly instead of first moving a sessions court.
