Meanwhile, historical data reveals a clear dominance by the Scottish side in this specific rivalry. Out of the 9 ODI encounters played between these two nations, Scotland has emerged victorious on 6 occasions, while Oman has secured only a single win, with two matches ending in no result. Furthermore, in their most recent completed meeting in July 2024, Scotland secured a comprehensive 8-wicket victory after bundling out Oman for just 91 runs. Therefore, while Oman has shown great resilience throughout the current league cycle, they enter the Windhoek fixture facing a significant statistical hurdle against their European rivals.

Scotland enters this match as the second-placed team in the standings, boasting 30 points from 24 matches. They rely heavily on the elite batting form of Brandon McMullen, who has been their standout performer with over 730 runs in the current cycle. Furthermore, the squad is bolstered by the experienced George Munsey and the tactical leadership of Richie Berrington. The bowling department features the disciplined pace of Chris Sole and the spin expertise of Mark Watt, who consistently provides breakthroughs in the middle overs. Consequently, the “Saltires” aim to utilize their superior head-to-head record and clinical all-round depth to secure a vital win and maintain pressure on the league leaders.

However, Oman arrives in Namibia looking to capitalize on their recent upward trajectory, currently sitting in 4th place with 24 points from 20 games. The squad is powered by the veteran presence of Jatinder Singh, who leads their batting charts, and the explosive potential of Shoaib Khan. Moreover, their bowling attack remains their primary weapon, spearheaded by the prolific Bilal Khan, who has claimed 15 wickets in recent matches, and the spin of Shakeel Ahmed. Furthermore, the visitors intend to leverage their extra games in hand to climb the table. Furthermore, the team seeks to exploit any early assistance from the Windhoek surface to dismantle the Scotland top order and secure a rare victory over their traditional rivals.

Therefore, both squads will fight with high intensity to dictate the tempo of the opening session in Namibia. Scotland aims to utilize their historical psychological edge and McMullen’s peak form to claim two crucial points. Additionally, Oman intends to leverage their clinical bowling variety and recent consistency to stage an upset and solidify their position among the tournament’s top contenders.

Delhi Capitals face fans backlash after Prithvi Shaw snub in IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season began with high anticipation, but the spotlight quickly shifted from on-field action to team selection controversy as Delhi Capitals (DC) faced criticism for leaving out Prithvi Shaw in their opening clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Fans were left surprised and disappointed when the young opener, who was expected to make a strong comeback this season, was neither included in the playing XI nor listed among the impact substitutes.

Delhi Capitals’ move to ignore Prithvi Shaw raises eyebrows

After winning the toss at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, DC skipper Axar Patel opted to bowl first. Speaking at the toss, Axar confirmed that Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka would make his IPL debut and open the innings alongside KL Rahul. While the inclusion of Nissanka added freshness to the lineup, it was Shaw’s absence that dominated discussions.

Interestingly, Axar did not provide any explanation for Shaw’s omission, leaving fans and experts speculating about the reasons behind the decision. Given Shaw’s reputation as an aggressive top-order batter and his return to the franchise this season, expectations were high for him to feature prominently.

Fans express disappointment on Shaw’s exclusion

As soon as the team sheets were announced, fans took to social media platforms to voice their frustration. Many questioned the team management’s decision to overlook a player known for his explosive starts, especially in a format like T20 cricket where powerplay performance often sets the tone.

Several users pointed out that Shaw’s exclusion, even from the impact substitutes list, hinted at deeper concerns—be it form, fitness, or team strategy. Others argued that backing a proven IPL performer like Shaw in the opening game could have provided DC with a more aggressive edge at the top.

The backlash reflects the strong connection Shaw shares with fans, who have followed his journey closely and were eager to see him make a statement this season.

Playing XI of both sides

Delhi Capitals fielded a balanced XI featuring a mix of experience and youth. Alongside Rahul and Nissanka, players like David Miller and Tristan Stubbs were expected to bolster the middle order, while the bowling attack included the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and T Natarajan.

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant, also made notable selection calls. Despite having a strong squad, LSG left out promising names such as Mayank Yadav and Arjun Tendulkar from their playing XI, showcasing the depth and competition within the squad.

Delhi Capitals: KL Rahul (wk), Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Vipraj Nigam, Axar Patel (captain), David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar.

Impact Subs: Ashutosh Sharma, Auqib Nabi, Sameer Rizvi, Dushmantha Chameera, Karun Nair.

Lucknow Super Giants: Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (captain/wk), Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, Mukul Chowdhary, Mohsin Khan, Mohammed Shami, Anrich Nortje, Prince Yadav.

Fans erupt as Sameer Rizvi’s batting masterclass powers DC to stunning win over LSG in IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals (DC) produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Chasing a modest target of 142, DC overcame a shaky start thanks to a brilliant knock from Sameer Rizvi and a composed partnership with Tristan Stubbs.

LSG post below-par total despite fighting contributions

After being put in to bat by DC captain Axar Patel, LSG struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs. Mitchell Marsh led the scoring with a steady 35 off 28 balls, striking a couple of boundaries and three sixes.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing LSG from capitalizing on starts. Skipper Rishabh Pant failed to make an impact at the top, while Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram couldn’t convert their starts into substantial scores.

A late push from Abdul Samad, who scored 36 off 25 balls, helped LSG cross the 140-run mark. Contributions from the lower order added some valuable runs, but the total still looked slightly underwhelming on a decent batting surface.

DC’s bowling unit delivered a collective effort, with Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan leading the charge with three wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two crucial wickets, while Axar Patel also picked up one.

Mohammed Shami strikes early as DC crumble in powerplay

The chase got off to a disastrous start for DC as Mohammed Shami struck on the very first ball, dismissing KL Rahul for a golden duck. The early breakthrough triggered a collapse, with Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, and Axar Patel also falling cheaply.

At one stage, DC were reeling at 26/4 in just 4.3 overs, with LSG bowlers applying relentless pressure. Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan provided crucial support to Shami, tightening the screws during the powerplay.

Sameer Rizvi helps Delhi Capitals seal the deal

Just when LSG seemed to be in complete control, Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs stitched together a match-winning partnership that shifted the momentum dramatically. Rizvi played a sensational knock of 70 off 47 balls, combining aggression with composure, hitting five fours and four sixes.

Stubbs complemented him perfectly with a well-paced 39 off 32 deliveries, ensuring that DC rebuilt steadily without taking unnecessary risks. Their 50-plus stand not only stabilized the innings but also put the Capitals firmly back in the contest.

As the partnership grew, the pressure shifted onto LSG bowlers, who struggled to find breakthroughs in the middle overs. The duo’s calculated approach ensured that the required run rate remained under control.

With the hard work done by Rizvi and Stubbs, DC comfortably chased down the target in 17.1 overs, finishing at 145/4. Despite an early scare, the Capitals showed resilience and depth in their batting lineup to secure a convincing win.

For LSG, the early breakthroughs provided hope, but the inability to break the Rizvi-Stubbs partnership proved costly. Their bowlers, apart from the initial burst, couldn’t maintain pressure in the later stages.

IPL 2026 [WATCH]: Mohammed Shami gets pumped up after removing KL Rahul for a golden duck in LSG vs DC clash

The IPL 2026 clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) produced immediate drama as Mohammed Shami delivered a sensational first-ball breakthrough on his debut for LSG. Defending a modest total at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Shami removed KL Rahul for a golden duck, giving his side the perfect start in the chase.

Mohammed Shami gets KL Rahul to celebrate his LSG debut in style

Opening the bowling, Shami bowled a teasing outswinger that lured Rahul into an ambitious drive. The DC batter, looking to get off the mark quickly, went hard at the delivery but only managed a thick outside edge. The ball flew straight to third man, where Mohsin Khan completed a safe catch, leaving Rahul stunned and walking back without scoring.

The wicket marked a memorable milestone for Shami, who was making his debut for Lucknow Super Giants after being traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2026. His immediate impact underlined his reputation as one of the most lethal new-ball bowlers in T20 cricket.

Here’s the video:

Shami’s impressive record in IPL

This was also the second time Shami dismissed Rahul for a golden duck in IPL history, having achieved the same feat in 2022. The numbers further highlight Shami’s dominance in this matchup—Rahul has struggled against him in T20s, averaging modestly while being dismissed multiple times.

Notably, Shami now holds the record for the most wickets taken on the very first ball of an IPL innings, having achieved this remarkable feat five times. It’s a testament to his ability to strike early and put opposition teams under pressure right from the outset.

Delhi Capitals collapse under pressure before a fightback from the star duo

Shami’s early breakthrough triggered a dramatic collapse in the DC batting lineup. The visitors found themselves in deep trouble as wickets continued to tumble in quick succession. Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, and captain Axar Patel were all dismissed cheaply, leaving DC reeling at 26/4 in just 4.3 overs.

The top-order failure put immense pressure on the middle order, with the required run rate steadily climbing. LSG’s bowlers maintained tight lines and capitalized on the early momentum, making scoring difficult for the Capitals.

Just when DC appeared to be heading towards a heavy defeat, Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs stepped up with a composed partnership. The duo absorbed the pressure and rebuilt the innings with sensible shot selection and effective strike rotation.

Their 50-run stand for the fifth wicket brought much-needed stability to the chase, taking DC to 83/4 in 11 overs. Both batters showed resilience and intent, gradually shifting momentum back in their team’s favor and keeping hopes alive in what initially looked like a lost cause.

WATCH: Lungi Ngidi outfoxes Nicholas Pooran with a perfect slower delivery during LSG vs DC game at IPL 2026

The fifth match of IPL 2026 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium turned into a showcase of disciplined bowling, with DC making full use of their decision to field first. After winning the toss, skipper Axar Patel backed his bowlers to deliver—and they responded emphatically by dismantling LSG’s batting lineup with consistent breakthroughs.

Among the standout moments of the innings was a stunning delivery from Lungi Ngidi that sent back the dangerous Nicholas Pooran, shifting the momentum further in DC’s favor.

Lungi Ngidi’s slower delivery gets rid of Nicholas Pooran

The key moment came on the fifth ball of the ninth over, when Ngidi unleashed a perfectly disguised slower ball. Pooran, known for his aggressive stroke play, attempted to flick the delivery towards the leg side but was completely deceived by the lack of pace.

His balance faltered as he committed early to the shot, only to see the ball sneak under his bat and crash into the stumps. The dismissal highlighted Ngidi’s mastery of variations, particularly his off-cutters that have troubled batters across formats.

This wasn’t the first time Ngidi has used such tactics effectively. His slower balls were a major weapon during the T20 World Cup 2026, and he carried that form seamlessly into the IPL, once again proving his value in the shortest format.

Here’s the video:

LSG struggle despite Mitchell Marsh and Abdul Samad’s efforts

While Ngidi’s breakthrough was crucial, it was part of a larger collapse that saw LSG fail to build any meaningful partnerships. Mitchell Marsh provided some resistance at the top with a composed 35, trying to anchor the innings during the early phase.

Later, Abdul Samad chipped in with a valuable 36 runs, ensuring that LSG crossed the 140-run mark. However, the lack of support from the rest of the batting unit meant that these contributions were not enough to challenge a disciplined DC bowling attack.

LSG were eventually bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs, a total that looked below par on a surface offering decent batting conditions.

DC bowlers deliver a complete team performance

Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit functioned like a well-oiled machine throughout the innings. Ngidi and T Natarajan led the charge with three wickets each, consistently applying pressure with tight lines and clever variations.

Spin also played its part, with Kuldeep Yadav picking up two crucial wickets in the middle overs. Captain Axar contributed with a wicket as well, rounding off a complete team performance in the field.

The Capitals’ ability to strike at regular intervals prevented LSG from gaining any momentum, ultimately restricting them to a modest total.

With a target of 142, DC will head into the chase with confidence, backed by a dominant bowling display. For LSG, the focus will be on regrouping and finding ways to bounce back, especially after a batting performance that lacked cohesion.

WATCH: Rishabh Pant’s opening gamble ends in freak run-out during LSG vs DC clash

The IPL 2026 encounter between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium witnessed a dramatic moment early in the innings as LSG captain Rishabh Pant suffered an unfortunate run-out. Promoting himself to open the batting in a surprising tactical move, Pant’s experiment lasted just 7 runs off 9 balls before ending in a freak dismissal that left fans stunned.

In a bid to take control of the powerplay, Pant walked out to open alongside his partner, aiming to inject early momentum into the innings. However, the plan did not unfold as expected, with luck playing a cruel role in cutting his stay at the crease short.

Rishabh Pant gets dismissed in an unfortunate manner

The incident occurred on the final delivery of the third over bowled by Mukesh Kumar. Aussie star Mitchell Marsh struck the ball firmly back towards the bowler. In an instinctive attempt to grab a return catch, Mukesh managed only a slight fingertip deflection. The ball ricocheted sharply and crashed into the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Pant, who had backed up significantly, was caught well out of his crease with no time to recover. What looked like a routine defensive stroke suddenly turned into a wicket, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the game. The dismissal left Pant visibly disappointed as his rare outing as an opener ended in sheer bad luck rather than a clear mistake.

Here’s the video:

Also READ: Delhi Capitals face fans backlash after Prithvi Shaw snub in IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants

Opening role remains unfamiliar territory

Pant’s decision to open raised eyebrows even before the dismissal, considering his limited experience at the top of the order in the IPL. Historically, he has been more effective in the middle order, particularly around the No. 3 or No. 4 positions.

During the 2025 season, Pant primarily batted at No. 4 for LSG, where he delivered one of his standout performances — an unbeaten century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His exposure as an opener has been minimal, with only a handful of innings across seasons. Even in his debut IPL season in 2016, he opened in a few matches but soon transitioned into a middle-order role where he found greater consistency.

The decision to promote himself in such a crucial fixture suggested a proactive approach from the LSG skipper, but the execution didn’t yield the desired outcome.

LSG stumble after early setback

Pant’s dismissal triggered a series of setbacks for Lucknow Super Giants, as the team struggled to build momentum. The batting unit faltered under pressure, losing key wickets in quick succession. Aiden Markram, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, and Marsh all departed within the first 10 overs. At one stage, LSG found themselves reeling at 71/5, putting the middle order under immense pressure.

WATCH: PSL ground staff’s hilarious experiment failure with the wind during rain-interrupted league match

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has long been celebrated as a stage for high-octane T20 cricket, blending Pakistan’s local flair with international stardom. However, the 2026 edition has recently found itself in the eye of a storm, quite literally. What began as a season of immense promise has transitioned into a series of logistical and disciplinary hurdles, leaving fans and officials alike navigating a comedy of errors that has threatened to overshadow the talent on the field.

Gusty conditions send PSL ground staff tumbling in Lahore

The Tuesday night fixture at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi was expected to be a heavyweight clash. Instead, it became a battle against the elements. A sudden, violent thunderstorm accompanied by hailstones and fierce winds lashed the venue, forcing the match to be abandoned without a single ball being bowled. While the washout was a blow to the standings, the real show happened during the frantic attempts to cover the pitch.

As the wind picked up speed, the Gaddafi Stadium ground staff found themselves in a hilarious, albeit dangerous, wrestling match with the heavy tarpaulin sheets. In a scene that quickly went viral on social media, several staff members were seen being lifted and tossed by the billowing covers as they struggled to anchor them against the gale. One groundsman, caught in a particularly strong gust, was sent tumbling across the turf, highlighting the chaotic nature of the evening. The experiment of trying to outmanoeuvre nature failed spectacularly, leaving visible wet patches and a saturated outfield that eventually forced match referee Roshan Mahanama to call off the game. This incident adds to a growing list of PSL 2026 mishaps, ranging from discoloured team kits to underwhelming stadium attendances in certain legs.

Fakhar Zaman suspended for two matches over ball tampering in PSL 2026

While the wind caused chaos in Lahore, a more serious storm was brewing in the disciplinary offices of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Lahore Qalandars’ star batter, Fakhar Zaman, has been slapped with a two-match suspension following a high-profile ball-tampering incident. The controversy stems from a tense Sunday clash against Karachi Kings, where the Qalandars were defending a slim margin in the final over.

The drama unfolded when Haris Rauf was preparing to bowl the 20th over with Karachi needing 14 runs. Footage showed captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Rauf, and Zaman huddled together, all three handling the ball. Following a request from umpire Faisal Afridi to inspect the leather, officials determined that the ball’s condition had been deliberately altered. Consequently, a five-run penalty was awarded to Karachi Kings, and the ball was replaced. This penalty proved decisive, as Karachi’s Abbas Afridi capitalized on the reduced target to seal a four-wicket win.

Zaman was charged with a Level 3 offense under Article 2.14 of the PCB Code of Conduct. Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, match referee Mahanama upheld the charge, leading to the maximum suspension. As the PSL 2026 moves forward, the league faces the dual challenge of tightening its disciplinary grip and hoping for better luck with the unpredictable spring weather.

Here’s the reason why Fakhar Zaman has been handed a two-match ban in PSL 2026

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 has been rocked by a major disciplinary scandal involving one of its most prominent stars. Lahore Qalandars’ veteran opener, Fakhar Zaman, has been handed a two-match suspension following a high-stakes investigation into ball-tampering allegations. The decision comes at a critical juncture in the tournament, leaving the two-time champions without their premier explosive batter for upcoming clashes against Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.

The incident, which occurred during the closing stages of a thrilling encounter between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium, has sparked intense debate across the cricketing world regarding player conduct and the pressure of the death overs.

Why Fakhar Zaman is suspended for two matches in PSL 2026?

The suspension is the result of a Level 3 offence under the PSL Code of Conduct. Specifically, Fakhar was found guilty of breaching Article 41.3, which strictly prohibits players from altering the condition of the ball.

The drama unfolded during the final over of Karachi Kings’ run chase on Sunday night. As Karachi required 14 runs to win, on-field umpire Faisal Afridi intercepted the ball after it had been passed between captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar. Video footage reviewed during the hearing reportedly showed Fakhar applying significant pressure and manipulating the ball’s surface in a manner that exceeded natural wear and tear.

Following a consultation with fellow umpire Sharfuddoula, the officials took the rare step of:

  • Awarding five penalty runs to Karachi Kings.
  • Ordering an immediate ball replacement, allowing the batting side to choose the new ball.

Match Referee Roshan Mahanama spearheaded the disciplinary hearing, determining that the physical evidence of the ball’s condition was consistent with deliberate tampering. Under the league’s regulations, a first-time Level 3 offence carries a mandatory suspension of one to two matches; Mahanama opted for the maximum penalty, citing the severity of the breach.

Zaman on the verdict and his PSL 2026 case

Fakhar has maintained a firm stance of innocence throughout the proceedings. Unlike many players who accept a referee’s sanction to avoid further scrutiny, Fakhar contested the initial charge, necessitating a full formal hearing.

During the session attended by Lahore Qalandars’ leadership including Afridi and Team Director Sameen Rana, Fakhar argued that his actions were misinterpreted and that he did not intend to unfairly influence the ball’s trajectory or grip. Despite his defense, the match referee remained unconvinced, leading to the two-match ban.

The verdict has significant ramifications:

  • The appeal window: Under the PSL code, Fakhar has 48 hours to lodge an official appeal with the PSL Technical Committee.
  • Team impact: The Qalandars are now forced to reshuffle their top order for their April 3rd fixture against the Sultans and the April 9th showdown with Islamabad United.

While the franchise has expressed disappointment over the severity of the ruling, the PCB has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy regarding on-field integrity. For Fakhar, a player known for his aggressive yet fair play, this verdict remains a significant blot on an otherwise illustrious career in the PSL.

Arjun Tendulkar makes a stunning revelation about his personal life ahead of LSG vs DC IPL 2026 clash

As the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) prepare to kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 01, 2026, all eyes are on their newest high-profile recruit: Arjun Tendulkar.

In a season that marks a significant shift in his career, moving from the shadow of the Wankhede to the rising powerhouse of Lucknow, the 26-year-old left-arm pacer has set the internet ablaze. Just hours before the 5th match of the tournament, Arjun dropped a series of candid revelations about his life off the field, offering a rare glimpse into the psyche of a man who carries one of the most famous surnames in sporting history.

Arjun Tendulkar drops a shocking personal confession before LSG vs DC showdown in IPL 2026

During a deep-dive conversation on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Arjun was asked how he maintains his composure amidst the relentless scrutiny of the IPL. His answer was surprisingly grounded: “I have five dogs in Goa, and I spend time playing with them.” For Arjun, peace isn’t found in the highlight reels, but in the quietude of his coastal home.

The most shocking revelation, however, was his social circle. Despite being the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and a professional athlete himself, Arjun confessed, “I don’t really have cricketer friends; most of my friends don’t play cricket.” When pressed on whether he discusses the game with them, he simply noted that they “don’t know much about cricket,” providing him a vital escape from the 24/7 pressure cooker of the sport.

He also addressed the perennial elephant in the room: social media trolling. Having been labelled a work in progress for years, Arjun’s stance on criticism has hardened into a quiet confidence. “No, I’m not [scared of it],” he stated firmly, signalling a mental readiness for his fresh start with LSG.

Can Arjun break through the LSG pace battery?

Arjun’s journey in the IPL has been one of extreme patience. After spending years in the Mumbai Indians (MI) dugout, his on-field opportunities remained sparse. His T20 stats tell the story of a player still finding his rhythm at the elite level:

Arjun Tendulkar: IPL Career Snapshot (2023–2024)

Category Stats
Matches 5
Wickets 3
Best Bowling (BBI) 1/9
Economy Rate 9.37
Runs Scored 13 (SR: 144.44)

While his bowling average (38.00) and economy suggest room for growth, his cameo with the bat, including a notable six against Mohit Sharma in 2023, hints at his potential as a lower-middle-order explosive.

At Lucknow, the competition for a spot in the XI is fierce. He joins a lethal pace attack featuring Mohammed Shami, the express speed of Mayank Yadav, and international stars like Anrich Nortje. However, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, Arjun’s left-arm angle and his recent work with idol Yuvraj Singh (notably on his backlift) might finally earn him the consistent run that eluded him in Mumbai. As the lights go up at the Ekana Stadium tonight, the ‘Prince of Cricket’ seems ready to finally define his own legacy.

Dale Steyn questions Shubman Gill’s captaincy after Prasidh Krishna’s delay proves costly to GT in IPL 2026 clash against PBKS

Former South Africa fast-bowling great Dale Steyn has raised serious concerns over Shubman Gill’s captaincy after Gujarat Titans’ (GT) narrow defeat to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2026. Steyn specifically pointed out the delayed introduction of Prasidh Krishna as a key tactical error that may have cost GT the game.

Late bowling change raises eyebrows

Defending a modest total of 162 in Mullanpur on March 31, Gujarat Titans found themselves on the back foot early as PBKS batters kept the chase under control. Despite having last season’s Purple Cap winner in their ranks, GT chose to hold back Prasidh until the 13th over — a move that left many surprised, including Steyn.

By the time Prasidh was brought into the attack, Punjab needed just 53 runs, with plenty of wickets in hand. The decision appeared even more questionable given the match situation, where GT desperately needed breakthroughs in the middle overs.

Once introduced, Prasidh made an immediate impact. The tall pacer picked up three crucial wickets in his first two overs, suddenly swinging momentum in GT’s favour and igniting hopes of a dramatic turnaround.

However, the late surge proved insufficient. Punjab Kings managed to hold their nerve and chase down the target with five balls to spare, despite losing seven wickets in the process. The game ultimately highlighted how timing and tactical awareness can define T20 outcomes.

Dale Steyn questions Shubman Gill’s tactics in the clash against PBKS

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Steyn suggested that Gujarat Titans are still trying to find the right balance early in the tournament. According to him, the team combination may have contributed to the mismanagement of bowling resources.

“They got their wickets with him in the end, but they left it too late. You are always figuring your team in the first two games. So they found themselves with one batter short and one bowler too many. When that’s the case, somebody gets under-bowled or bowled too late, like Prasidh here. When he picks up three wickets in his first two overs, you start to wish you used him earlier. Siraj also bowled only two overs, which tells you they’ve too many options and are spoilt for choice,” said Steyn

Steyn emphasized the psychological challenge for bowlers like Prasidh when introduced late in high-pressure situations. He explained that bowlers need time to settle into the rhythm of the game rather than being asked to deliver instant breakthroughs.

“You want to get a feel of the game, if you are Prasidh. It’s so difficult to sit on the bench and then suddenly be tasked with making something happen. So for him to be able to do that and pick up a bunch of wickets was impressive. But you want to be able to be in the game earlier, get an over under the belt, and be a little bit sweaty. Feel the game and the energy of the game to get the best out of players. To wait so long also puts pressure on the player,” added Steyn.
