Brevis was retained for INR 2.20 crore after an impressive showing last year. The South African batter scored 225 runs in six matches at an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180.0, including two half-centuries. He also featured in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where he made 207 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 146.80 for South Africa national cricket team, before their semi-final exit against New Zealand national cricket team.Meanwhile, Dhoni is set to miss at least the first two weeks of the tournament after suffering a calf strain during training, leaving CSK short of an experienced wicketkeeper-batter early on.The injury concerns do not end there. Earlier, Australian pacer Nathan Ellis was ruled out of the entire season with a hamstring injury and has been replaced by Spencer Johnson.Despite these setbacks, CSK will kick off their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the side will be aiming to bounce back from a disappointing previous season where they finished last with just four wins in 14 matches.

Poll

Who do you think is the key player for CSK in IPL 2026 now that Dhoni is out?

The team is also expected to unveil a new opening pair, with Gaikwad to partner Sanju Samson, who joined the franchise via a trade deal involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. With key players unavailable at the start, CSK will need to quickly find the right balance as they look to begin their IPL 2026 journey on a strong note.

Touched by support in city: Ayatollah’s envoy | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Among the mourners who assembled at the iconic Masjid-e-Iranian at Dongri on Sunday to condole the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei was a little girl. She offered her gold earrings to Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the representative of Iran’s supreme leader in India, as a way to help the war-hit country.“I was touched. I cried at the girl’s gesture, her pure heart and intention,” said Illahi, who attended condolences at the mosque, Islam Gymkhana near Marine Lines, and Habib Esmail Hospital in Dongri held by Habib Group of Trusts and Mumbai Aman Committee. Ilahi, who has visited Mumbai multiple times, said he was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the people in the city which, he stressed, is not just “a financial centre but a cultural centre too”. “If I am not dressed like this (without headgear and black robe), many people think I am an Indian.” A close friend of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Khamenei’s son, Ilahi described the new Iranian supreme leader as “a simple man who lives in a rented house”. “Once I travelled to Mecca with him and we went to buy shirts. He said he did not have $20 to pay for a shirt and bought a shirt that cost $10. When the shopkeeper found that he was the son of Iran’s supreme leader, he started shouting in disbelief,” recalled Ilahi. He recalled that Khamenei loved India a lot. “Before I came to India, he told me to read up on the history of India and the historical and civilisational relationship India and Iran have. Out of 75 books he wrote, his first book was on India.” When PM Narendra Modi met him, said Ilahi, the meet was scheduled for only 15-20 minutes, but it went on for over an hour as Khamenei discussed India’s rich history and its multicultural society where communities live in harmony. He said Khamenei revered many Indian writers and statesmen, especially Jawaharlal Nehru, who wrote “some wonderful books”. Javed Shroff, chairman, Habib Group of Trusts, said, “War was imposed on Iran, but it must end as war brings disaster.” He told TOI he will send medical help and a team of medical professionals to Iran on humanitarian grounds after consulting Ilahi. Former Navy chief Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat presented a piece of gold sent by his wife, advocate Niloufer Bhagwat.

4-hour power outage hits Thane; thousands affected on Sunday morning | Mumbai News

Thane: Thousands of households across several parts of Thane, including Vasant Vihar, parts of Ghodbunder Highway, Kolshet, Manpada, Majiwada and Balkum, woke up to major inconvenience Sunday morning following a snag in the power transmission lines that led to a sudden four-hour-long electricity cut.Officials said a Padgha–Kamba–Kharbav–Kolshet transmission line tripped at 6:05 AM, while another fault developed in the Wada Extra High Voltage substation, due to which the power could not be shifted to the Patalipada substation in Thane city, leading to the shutdown and disrupting supply to areas along the Ghodbunder serviced by it. Meanwhile, with morning temperatures hovering around 35°C, several residents, especially the elderly, children and the ailing, faced severe discomfort as fans and air conditioners stopped working. “Sunday is the only day we get to rest, but we woke up to this power outage that lasted for nearly five hours. It was unbearable to sleep in this heat,” complained Sagar Dani, a resident of a Ghodbunder-based gated complex. The impact could have been colossal if it was a working day, feared residents, who nonetheless complained of inconvenience as the cuts impacted water supply and also grocery and food deliveries, as riders refused to climb floors in societies without backup for lifts. While the power companies failed to alert residents in time, luckily, local citizen groups like the one operated by Dr Krishna Kumar, chairman of Vasant Vihar Apex Society, filled in the void as they sent messages alerting locals of the prolonged cuts. “This helped many residents, especially elders planning to go out for morning walks, to stay back home as the operations of elevators in a few high-rises were impacted,” he said. Meanwhile, the MSETCL, which arranged alternative setup in phases, managed to completely restore the supply by 11:30 AM. Naser Khan and Subhash Maskeri from Ghodbunder localities pointed out the recurring outages over the last few days, often lasting over 30 minutes, and that too without any intimation.

Cost slashed, Gargai dam project to be tabled again | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Nearly two weeks after it was sent back to the civic administration over cost concerns, the Gargai dam project is set to be tabled again before the statutory BMC standing committee for approval. The contractor that quoted the lowest bid has agreed to slash the cost from about 9% above BMC’s estimate to nearly 2%.BMC had estimated the cost of constructing the dam in Ogada village of Palghar district at Rs 3,006 crore. Soma consortium had emerged as the lowest bidder. Objecting to the steep contract value, the BJP-led standing committee returned the proposal, saying such a significant deviation from the estimate could not be approved. Following this, BMC held three rounds of negotiations with the contractor. The consortium has now agreed to execute the project at Rs 3,276 crore—nearly 2% above the original estimate—resulting in savings of around Rs 269 crore, said a BMC official. Officials said the contractor was told that execution risks were already factored into the project, leaving little justification for the earlier higher quote. The project, however, still awaits two key clearances —from the central wildlife board and the forest departments at state and central levels. “The contractor’s initial bid for the project was 10.9% above the estimated cost. Following three rounds of negotiations, this was brought down to nearly 9%. The proposal was then placed before the civic standing committee, which called for further reduction. Over the past two weeks, we held another three rounds of negotiations with the contractor, which agreed to cut the cost further,” said an official, adding that the first year post-work order will go into securing permissions and creating infrastructure for relocation of six affected villages. Dam construction is planned in the second year, followed by installation of electrical systems in the third year. The project includes a 1,200kW hydropower unit, intended to offset the dam’s electricity costs. Soma consortium had also executed the Middle Vaitarna dam project. Once commissioned, the Gargai dam will add 440 million litres per day to Mumbai’s water supply, making it the city’s first new reservoir since Middle Vaitarna became operational in 2014. BMC is eyeing its completion by 2029, coinciding with the next Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

US proposes sharp hike in H-1B, PERM wage thresholds; may adversely impact entry-level hiring

In a significant move that could reshape hiring of foreign skilled professionals, the US Department of Labor (DOL) has proposed a sweeping overhaul of wage rules for H-1B visas and employment-linked green card programmes, sharply increasing minimum salary thresholds across skill levels. The proposed rule, titled “Improving Wage Protections for the Temporary and Permanent Employment of Certain Foreign Nationals in the United States,” was released on March 26 and will be open for public comments for 60 days after its publication in the Federal Register.

What the proposal seeks to change

At the core of the proposal is a revision of the prevailing wage system, which determines the minimum salary employers must offer foreign workers. Currently, wages are pegged to four skill-based levels set at roughly the 17th, 34th, 50th and 67th percentiles of market wages. The DOL now proposes to raise these thresholds significantly, effectively pushing wages upward across all levels. For instance, entry-level (Level I) wages could rise from the 17th percentile to the 34th percentile, aligning them with what is currently considered a mid-level wage. The DOL estimates that these changes would increase the average certified wage by approximately $14,000 per year per position.DOL Prevailing Wage Levels: Current and Proposed

Skill Level Current Percentiles Proposed Rule Percentiles
Level I 17 34
Level II 34 52
Level III 50 70
Level IV 67 88

Aim: curb ‘cheap labour’ practices

The DOL said the changes are intended to bring foreign worker wages in line with US market rates and prevent misuse of visa programmes. “This proposed rule will help ensure that employers pay foreign workers wages that reflect the real market value of their labor,” said US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.The department argued that existing wage levels have been “dramatically below” market rates, particularly affecting entry-level US workers and recent graduates. It added that the overhaul aims to reduce incentives for employers to replace US workers with lower-paid foreign labour and promote fair competition.

H-1B Visa Shake-Up Fuels Anti-Indian Campaigns as Donald Trump’s Policy Reshapes US Hiring

Who will be impacted

The proposed rule will apply to multiple visa categories and employment routes, including H-1B (specialty occupation workers) and employment-linked green cards. Importantly, the changes will apply only to new applications filed after the rule takes effect, not to existing approvals.Mitch Wexler, senior counselor at global immigration law firm Fragomen, told TOI: “The proposed revised percentiles are nearly identical to the percentiles proposed in the final wage rule issued at the end of the first Trump Administration, which was challenged in court and ultimately never took effect.”Employers sponsoring H-1B workers must submit a labour condition application (LCA) to the DOL, stipulating that they will pay at least the prevailing wage for that job and location. Similarly, PERM (Program Electronic Review Management) is a labour certification process employers must complete before sponsoring a foreign worker for a green card, which also requires offering the prevailing wage. The proposed regulation would significantly raise the required minimum wages for both H-1B hires and green card sponsorships.“The new required wage levels would apply only to applications for prevailing wage determinations that are pending on the date the regulation would take effect, and to new prevailing wage requests and labour condition applications (LCAs) filed on or after the effective date of the regulation. The new percentiles would not apply to any previously issued or approved prevailing wage determinations, PERMs, or LCAs,” said Wexler.

Potential salary impact

The DOL estimates that the proposed wage level adjustments would increase the average certified wage by approximately $14,000 per year per position. Overall, the policy could result in billions of dollars in additional wage payouts by employers each year, with the biggest impact expected at lower wage levels. This would make hiring of H-1B workers, especially at entry levels, more expensive. The proposal is not yet final and will undergo the federal rulemaking process, including a public consultation period and potential revisions. Immigration experts do not rule out legal challenges to the rule.Lately, the H-1B programme has been subject to multiple changes — including the replacement of the random lottery with a wage-weighted selection system, where higher prevailing wage levels improve selection odds; a $100,000 entry fee on new H-1B petitions for beneficiaries outside the US (a measure still under legal challenge); and social media vetting of H-1B/H-4 applicants, which has contributed to consular backlogs in India. The proposed wage hike will be yet another policy change that could impact hiring of skilled foreign workers.

The makers were clear that they wanted a completely fresh face.He said, “Humara Initially bohot saara discussion iss film mein chala tha, ki humko jis jagah ki woh ladki dikhani hai, koi aisa fresh approach lena bohot zaroori hai. Initially, we thought of so many big, established actors. Aditya got so many messages from different people. I got messages asking, ‘Why not me?’ Because, of course, he’s Ranveer. Hum log bohot clear the, ki poori duniya mein woh fresh ladki lagni chahiye ki jiska koi background naa ho, so that aisa lage ki uss duniya mein he is going, woh uss duniya mein jaa raha hai.” (“We initially had a lot of discussions for this film. We felt that for the place this girl belongs to in the story, it was very important to take a fresh approach. At first, we thought of many big, established actors. Aditya received many messages from different people. I also got messages asking, ‘Why not me?’ Because, of course, it’s Ranveer. But we were very clear that the girl should feel completely fresh, like someone with no background at all, so that it looks like he is entering that world and going into her space.”) The team wanted authenticity and a sense of realism in the character.

Rigorous shortlisting process

The audition process was detailed and extensive. More than a thousand girls were considered for the role. Mukesh Chhabra explained, “We auditioned so many people. I think more than a thousand girls auditioned. And mere pe bohot brief clear tha, completely fresh, a new approach, and of course, language. Lagna chahiye ki wahan ki hai, kyunki usse yeh feel hota hai ki uss mulk mein aap jaa rahe ho. That’s the whole idea. If you’ve seen part 2, the scene where she says, ‘Are you a Hindustani agent?’ That was my audition script. I remember we did that scene with a minimum of 50 people after shortlisting. Then we shortlisted 30, came down to 20, then 10, then 5, then 3, and then 1.” The process narrowed down candidates step by step before finalising Sara Arjun.

Aditya Dhar’s instant reaction

Recalling Sara Arjun’s audition, Mukesh Chhabra shared how quickly the decision was made, “Jab usne woh scene kiya, immediately I sent it to Aditya on WhatsApp. He said, ‘Kaun hai yeh?’ I said she’s the new girl, she’s just done a few ad films as a child actor, and a few films as a child actor. Initially, we were thinking, ‘Will she look short?’ That is a calculation in casting. But then we thought kahani ke saath woh correct lagega that he’s going there and he’s trying to woo that girl. That’s the whole point. She gave a kick-ass audition, I’m going to release that audition in the next one week and you’ll know why we took that girl.”

Chemistry with Ranveer Singh wins hearts

Sara Arjun’s pairing with Ranveer Singh has been widely appreciated. Their on-screen chemistry has emerged as one of the film’s highlights. While in the first part both their characters were just moulding, in the sequel we can see a more mature character of Sara Arjun.

Churchill Bros ask AIFF ethics panel to examine Chaubey’s ‘conflict of interest’ | Goa News

According to last week’s complaint by the club’s general manager, Aditya Barros Pereira, Chaubey’s wife, Sohini Mitra, serves as the director of Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Pvt Ltd, as per “publicly available records.”

Panaji: Churchill Brothers FC have asked All India Football Federation’s ethics and dispute resolution committee to examine a potential conflict of interest concerning its president Kalyan Chaubey and determine whether his candidature “for the office of AIFF President complies with conflict of interest provisions and governance principles.According to last week’s complaint by the club’s general manager, Aditya Barros Pereira, Chaubey’s wife, Sohini Mitra, serves as the director of Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Pvt Ltd, as per “publicly available records.”Churchill said Sohini is also associated with executive committee of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, “thereby exercising a governance role within the club structure.”As per Article 73.3 of the AIFF Constitution, every person after taking over their positions should disclose to the ethics and disputes resolution committee in writing any existing or potential event that may be deemed to cause a conflict of interest and the same should be uploaded on the AIFF website.“The non-disclosure of Chaubey’s relationship with the Director of Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Private Limited raises concerns on his integrity and his capacity to undertake objective decisions for the interest of the federation,” the club said in the complaint, flagging violations of Article 19 and Article 19(A) of the AIFF Code of Ethics, 2017.Churchill said a potential instance of “favouritism or lenient treatment” due to the involvement of Chaubey was the recent reduction of sanction imposed on Mohun Bagan, following a letter for review by the club. The AIFF disciplinary committee had initially imposed a full stadium closure along with a fine for the March 6 clash against Odisha FC but following a review petition, the decision was modified from a full closure to a partial one.“These events are strange as judicial bodies in AIFF have not modified/taken back decisions that were directed to the parties except in cases of directions made by domestic and international courts. As a matter of settled legal principle, review jurisdiction is narrowly confined and is generally maintainable only in exceptional circumstances, such as the discovery of a new and important fact or evidence, an error apparent on the face of the record, or other similarly limited grounds. No such circumstance appears, on the face of the record, to have existed in the present matter,” said Churchill. The club said “when the spouse of the (AIFF) president occupies a governance position within a club that participates in the national football structure, there arises a real and reasonable concern regarding the possibility of preferential treatment, access to confidential information, the exercise of undue influence, and a perception of compromised impartiality in regulatory or commercial matters affecting football clubs. In its appeal, Churchill have asked the independent ethics panel to examine the conflict-of-interest implications arising from the directorship and governance role of Chaubey’s wife, determine whether his candidature for the office of AIFF president complies with the constitution’s provisions, and “direct appropriate disclosures, recusals, or other remedial measures as deemed necessary.”Churchill’s recent complaints saw the AIFF ethics and dispute resolution committee left with just two members, prompting a pause into their battle against Inter Kashi.Committee chairperson RK Pachnanda first recused himself on account of his earlier role of investigator as AIFF’s integrity officer and Sudarshan Kumar Agarwal resigned after the club brough to the fore his previous role as counsel for AIFF president Chaubey and flagged a direct conflict of interest.Churchill, who are not part of either the Indian Super League (ISL) or Indian Football League (IFL) this season, have been up in arms against the AIFF due to last season’s I-League title race, where they were first declared champions. However, the title was later awarded to Inter Kashi, who won two appeals in the Court of Arbitration for sport (CAS).
