Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at the Miami Open, defeating American Alex Michelsen in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals. Despite the straight-set scoreline of 7-5, 7-6, the match was far from easy for Sinner. Michelsen pushed him hard, especially in the second set, where the American raced to a 5-2 lead. However, Sinner showed his class and composure, fighting back to force a tiebreak and eventually sealing the win with a powerful serve.“I feel like I served very well in important moments and that helped me out, especially in the tough moments,” Sinner said. “But today was not easy — I played a night match yesterday and today in the daytime, so the conditions were very different.”With this victory, Sinner remains on course for the “Sunshine Double,” having already won the Indian Wells title earlier.

Upsets and key results in Miami

In other matches, Frances Tiafoe advanced to the quarter-finals and will now face Sinner. One of the biggest surprises came from Spain’s young qualifier Martin Landaluce, who defeated Sebastian Korda in a thrilling three-set match.Landaluce, who had struggled for wins earlier this season, dedicated his victory to his late grandmother, saying, “She would have been 101 last week, and she passed away a few months ago. I wanted to give her the victory.”Elsewhere, Jiri Lehecka knocked out Taylor Fritz, while Tommy Paul, Arthur Fils, Francisco Cerundolo, and Alexander Zverev also progressed, setting up an exciting quarter-final lineup in Miami.

Injury-hit KKR name this Indian pacer as Harshit Rana's replacement for IPL 2026

NEW DELHI: Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday named India pacer Navdeep Saini as a replacement for the injured Harshit Rana.Saini has played 2 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 11 T20Is for India.TimeofIndia.com was the first to report that Harshit has been ruled out of the season due to a knee injury that he had sustained ahead of the T20 World Cup.Later, Harshit Rana was seen on crutches at the BCCI Naman Awards.Rana, who sustained a ligament strain in his right knee injury during India’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa, is currently undergoing rehabilitation. The pacer had pulled up after delivering just one over in that game and was subsequently ruled out of the T20 World Cup following surgery. He was replaced by Mohammed Siraj, who played one match (against the USA) during India’s title-winning campaign.KKR are grappling with multiple fitness concerns. Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been nursing a calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup, which had initially not been expected to affect his IPL availability.KKR are also without left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman after the BCCI instructed it to release the Bangladeshi player amid strained geopolitical relations between India and Bangladesh earlier this year. The franchise has since signed Zimbabwe quick Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement. Muzarabani opted out of his Pakistan Super League stint with Islamabad United as he is set to join the squad here Tuesday.KKR’s other pace options include Vaibhav Arora, Saurabh Dubey (came as a replacement of Akash Deep), Umran Malik, Kartik Tyagi, and all-rounders Cameron Green and Ramandeep Singh.KKR will begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians in an away fixture on March 29, before hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in the opening phase of the tournament.

RCB, MI, or CSK? England's cricket legends predict IPL 2026 winners

NEW DELHI: With IPL 2026 just around the corner, former England cricketers have shared their predictions on who might lift the trophy, sparking debate among fans. While teams like Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all in the mix, opinions differ on who has the edge this season.Former England captain Michael Vaughan is confident about Mumbai Indians’ chances and didn’t hold back, saying, “Only 1 team wining this year and it’s @mipaltan.”

He also doubled down on the “Stick to Cricket” podcast, adding, “I’ll throw the first name out there. Mumbai Indians will win it this year. They have not won it for a few. They’ve got an incredible team.”MI, one of the most successful teams in IPL history, will be led by Hardik Pandya this season. With experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, they are expected to be strong contenders despite falling short in the playoffs last year. Not everyone agrees with Vaughan. Alastair Cook has backed defending champions RCB to retain their title, putting his faith in the team setup and coaching of Andy Flower. Phil Tufnell initially agreed with RCB but later leaned towards CSK as another strong option due to the Sanju Samson factor.RCB, however, could face early challenges with key players like Yash Dayal unavailable and Josh Hazlewood set to miss initial matches due to fitness issues. Historically, only MI and CSK have successfully defended IPL titles, so RCB will be aiming to join that elite list this season.

5th T20I: Connor Esterhuizen’s blitzkrieg helps South Africa secure series in New Zealand | Cricket News

5th T20I: Connor Esterhuizen's blitzkrieg helps South Africa secure series in New Zealand
South Africa win series in New Zealand

South Africa beat New Zealand by 33 runs in the final T20 to seal the series 3-2, thanks to a powerful knock from Connor Esterhuizen. Chasing 188, New Zealand struggled throughout and finished on 154-8, unable to keep up with the rising required run rate.Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, South Africa had a slow start but turned things around in the second half of their innings.

Axar Patel questions Impact Player rule: ‘All-rounders lose value’

Esterhuizen led the charge with a brilliant 75 off 33 balls, hitting boundaries with ease and accelerating the scoring. He built a quick partnership with Dian Forrester as the team piled on runs in the last 10 overs.“I think the nice thing was that I got to come in and play with some freedom because of the nice platform from the guys up top with wickets in hand,” Esterhuizen said. “Early on the openers assessed it and said 160 was competitive. The more myself and (Forrester) was out there we said 170 was a good score and we got 187.”

New Zealand fall short in chase

In reply, New Zealand never really got going. Regular wickets and tight bowling kept them under pressure, and the required run rate kept climbing. Despite some late hitting, they were left needing too many runs in the final overs.South Africa’s bowlers, including Gerald Coetzee and Ottneil Baartman, kept things under control, while disciplined fielding added to New Zealand’s problems. Poor shot selection and missed chances meant the hosts couldn’t recover, handing South Africa a comfortable win and the series.

Is Arshdeep losing his swing? Irfan Pathan flags concern for Punjab’s pacer | Cricket News

Is Arshdeep losing his swing? Irfan Pathan flags concern for Punjab's pacer
Arshdeep Singh (PTI Photo)

Arshdeep Singh played an important role in India’s 2026 T20 World Cup winning campaign. As he eyes maiden title with Punjab Kings, former Indian all-rounder raises concern that he needs to focus on his swing with the new balls. Arshdeep played a very important role in India’s title victory, he took 9 wickets in 8 matches. During the Super 8s, Arshdeep surpassed Jasprit Bumrah (33 wickets) to become India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. Despite his outstanding performance ahead of IPL 2026, Irfan Pathan believes Arshdeep has lost his swing in new balls. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan said, “Arshdeep, who was your highest wicket-taker, has been consistently taking wickets. One thing he will definitely need to focus on is how he bowls with the new ball. Because over the past year, or slightly less than a year, from what I have observed, he hasn’t been bowling much inswing with the new ball.” Pathan acknowledged that Arshdeep’s stats have declined with the new ball, and he needs to pay attention to that. “His statistics, compared to before and after the Asia Cup, have slightly declined in terms of new-ball bowling. He will need to pay attention to that, and also keep an eye on his economy rate,” said Pathan.

Arshdeep Singh In IPL

Arshdeep Singh has been consistent for the Punjab Kings since his IPL debut in 2019. He has taken 97 wickets in 82 IPL matches for the franchise with a concerning economy rate of nine. He was retained by the Kings before the 2025 IPL auction for Rs 18 Crore, and he played a vital role in taking his side to the final, where they eventually lost to the first-time winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).Singh is also the leading wicket-taker for India in the T20Is with 127 wickets in 84 matches. He is expected to play a big role for Punjab if the Kings are looking to finish this season with a trophy.

NEW DELHI: Ishan Kishan is living his dream at the moment. He waited for his chance, and when it came, he grabbed it with both hands. He performed and is now reaping the rewards of his hard work. Ishan won the 2026 T20 World Cup, bagged two ‘Player of the Match’ awards, and was rewarded with the captaincy of Sunrisers Hyderabad.SRH will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28.

SRH on Wednesday shared a video in which Ishan spoke about his new challenge — leading the side.“I am very overwhelmed, and I am very happy that I got this opportunity to lead this team. And, to be very honest, I am going to just keep it simple, not to do so much because when players come for IPL, I think they are all very good players. You just need to make sure that they are on the right track,” Ishan said.“And their mindset does not change after a few innings, going here and there. And the rest is, you know, it is going to be a good season, I guess, and we will just do it together. I think there is lots and lots and lots of learning in this season because I will tell you, in the last few years, I have understood one thing, the most important thing for a cricketer is to be in a very good headspace throughout the season,” he added.“So, mostly this season, we will make sure we just stay in the present, we just keep it simple and do as much hard work as we can before the match starts. But in the match, we are just going to enjoy the game and take one match at a time,” he added.Ishan had a stellar 2026 T20 World Cup, scoring 317 runs at an average of 35.22, with a strike rate of over 193.“It was, I feel, the best few days of my life because, you know, joining the team suddenly and winning the World Cup with the team, so it was one of the best moments. Because, you know, there was a lot of hard work going on. Players were, a few of them were not in form, but when the time was there, when it was needed the most, everyone played the best possible cricket. And we just tried to play the best role in the team, and I think we all achieved greatness with that this season,” he said.Ishan also spoke about the power of manifestation, saying he always believed he would make a big comeback.“When I was not in the team, there was no–I mean, how do I explain it? There was always this feeling that I would make it to the team anyhow, because I knew that the amount of hard work I would do would be the most important thing. And you know, you always need to believe in yourself,” he said.It was the domestic grind that helped Ishan build his path to the biggest prize in T20I cricket, as he led Jharkhand to its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title last year, topping the charts with 517 runs in 10 innings, including two centuries and two fifties.“This will be a message to I feel so many guys, whoever is losing track or whoever is not believing in themselves, and they should know that they are supposed to believe and just keep on working hard. Things will change,” he signed off.

EXCLUSIVE | Cooper Connolly looks to learn, grow, and emulate Shaun Marsh at Punjab Kings
Cooper Connolly was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 3 crore during last year’s IPL mini auction.

NEW DELHI: Last September in humid Lucknow, Cooper Connolly had a long chat with India A captain Shreyas Iyer. Part of the Australia A squad, Connolly picked Iyer’s brain on tackling spin. The 22-year-old then struck a fluent 70, but little did he know that the 25-minute conversation at the Ekana Cricket Stadium had left a lasting impression on Iyer, now the captain of Punjab Kings.

A couple of months later, Punjab Kings snapped up the youngster for Rs 3 crore at the IPL mini auction.“Luckily, he was there, and we had a good conversation. It was all about cricket,” Cooper Connolly told TimeofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.

“Look, he’s a world-class player. I love watching him bat. It just looks so easy. So it would be nice to pick his brain, understand him a bit, see how he goes about batting in Indian conditions, and put into practice what I can for my game in India. I’m just looking forward to learning from him,” said Connolly on playing alongside Iyer.Cooper Connolly said his primary goal is to gain experience, learn from top players, and challenge himself against the best in the IPL. He expressed gratitude for being picked by Punjab Kings, calling it an honour, and is eager to grow under the guidance of the coaching staff and captain Shreyas, regardless of whether he gets to play.

The moment one of the paddles went up for me was just a moment where I thought, OK, I am going to go and challenge myself against the best in the world.

“It felt so nice when the paddle went up. It was obviously nice,” he said.“I think the main goal initially was just hoping that I would get picked up.“Now it is just to go there, experience some quality cricket against some quality opposition, and learn from some quality players at Punjab and obviously a great coaching staff at Punjab.

“The moment one of the paddles went up for me was just a moment where I thought, OK, I’m going to go and challenge myself against the best in the world. It’s obviously nice to get auctioned off for more than what I thought. It’s just an honour to be a part of it and challenge myself against some quality opposition and just try to learn as much as I can, whether I play or not. I’m just looking forward to getting over there and learning and honing my skill sets,” he said. For Cooper Connolly, it has been a rollercoaster few months. He has made his international debut for Australia in all three formats and bagged an IPL contract. He admits that he has not had the chance to reflect because it has been surreal. The youngster did not have a good series against Pakistan, where he looked all at sea. Then, in the T20 World Cup, he played only two matches and did reasonably well: taking three wickets in two games.

He [Shaun Marsh] is someone I can approach for a chat about cricket and his approach. More than anything, it’s the way he plays that I try to model my game on, how he gives himself a chance in every format, his timing, and his ability to find the boundary. For me, it is about reaching out to him when the time feels right.

Cooper Connolly | Punjab Kings

Now at Mullanpur, the youngster will have a chance to work with ex-Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, and over the next two-and-a-half months, he will have a chance to correct his technical glitches and become a more well-rounded all-round prospect. The Perth-born Cooper Connolly, who has modelled his batting on Shaun Marsh, is also looking to emulate his idol.“He’s someone I can approach for a chat about cricket and his approach. More than anything, it’s the way he plays that I try to model my game on, how he gives himself a chance in every format, his timing, and his ability to find the boundary. For me, it’s about reaching out to him when the time feels right.

Poll

What aspect of Cooper Connolly’s journey excites you the most?

“He’s been really good to me. I’ve always enjoyed watching him bat, and even now I go back to his highlights, especially his hundreds. It’s about picking certain attributes from his batting and trying to incorporate them into my own game, because he was world-class,” said Connolly.Punjab Kings will play their first match on March 31 at home against Gujarat Titans, and Connolly has teamed up with the squad and is ready for the biggest few weeks of his career, which could shape his future.

NEW DELHI: The debate over who is the greatest – Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli – will never be silenced. The question has been asked of many former cricketers, and recently, former India captain Sourav Ganguly found himself in the middle of it.In terms of most international runs, Tendulkar holds the top spot with 34,357, while Kohli is among the top three with over 28,000 runs under his belt. Kohli has already surpassed Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI centuries, with 53 to his name, compared to Tendulkar’s 49 in his illustrious career.

In Tests, Tendulkar has 51 centuries, while Kohli has 30. Tendulkar amassed 15,921 runs in Tests, while Kohli has scored 9,230 runs.During the event, Ganguly was asked by a host: “Tell me, there is a debate – an unending debate – and we want to reach a closure on it. Virat or Sachin?“Ye mat poochiye mere ho great dono bahut acche hain aur main sabse khush hoon. Dono India ke hai, dono India ke liye itne match jitaaye hain. Aap aap soch bhi nahi sakte. Kyunki jab aap khelte ho na to aapko pata chalta hai ki itne run banana, itne centuries banana kitna mushkil hai. [Don’t ask me that. Both are great, both are very good, and I am happiest that both are from India. They have won so many matches for India. You cannot even imagine, because when you play, you realise how difficult it is to score so many runs and so many centuries]” Ganguly said.“Sachin Tendulkar bahut bade player hai. Main unke paas se dekha hoon, main unke saath itna khela hoon. Main jab main unke saath dhai sau one day open kar chuka hoon to main ghar mein aakar hamesha bolta tha ki yaar mujhe na meri game neeche jaani nahi chahiye. To kabhi kabhi meri wife poochti thi kyu game mein to upar neeche hota hai. Maine kaha nahi yaar log bolenge ya doosre end par itna bada player hai aur doosri taraf 1 average player hai to main kabhi nahi chahta hoon ki mera game neeche aaye [Sachin Tendulkar is a very great player. I have seen him from close quarters, I have played so much with him. When I had opened around 250 ODIs with him, I would always come home and say that my game should not go down. Sometimes my wife would ask why, since form goes up and down. I would say no — people will say that at one end there is such a great player and at the other end there is an average player. So I never wanted my game to dip]”, he said.“[Aur main 1 cheez life mein believe karta hoon ki aap acche logon ke saath kheloge na jo aapse behtareen player hain, jo aapse stronger player hai, aapka game bhi improve hota hai kyunki aapka level bhi wo ban jaata hai. Isliye mere hisaab se Virat Kohli aur Sachin Tendulkar ke beech comparison hona nahi chahiye. Dono Bharat ke hain. But main Sachin ko bahut paas se dekha hoon aur bahut bade player hai wo. [One thing I believe in life is that when you play with good people, players who are better and stronger than you, your game also improves because your level rises to theirs. So in my opinion, there should not be a comparison between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Both belong to India. But I have seen Sachin very closely, and he is a very great player]” Ganguly said.

IPL 2026 captain’s meet: When, where and the complete agenda | Cricket News

IPL 2026 captain's meet: When, where and the complete agenda
Captains of 10 IPL teams (Photo Credit: IPL)

The captains of all IPL teams are set to meet with officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on March 25 to discuss a range of key issues, including the Impact Player rule and the code of conduct. However, the primary focus is expected to be on clarifications regarding the two-bouncer rule, bat checks, ball replacement, the use of saliva, and the retired-out provision. The IPL 2026 captains’ meeting will take place at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.According to a BCCI communique to the franchises on Tuesday, accessed by Cricbuzz, Javagal Srinath and Nitin Menon – heads of the BCCI’s match referees and umpires’ panels, respectively – will address the captains. The meeting is scheduled from 4:30 pm to 6 pm on Wednesday (March 25).

What will be the agenda?

The BCCI has recently shared the playing conditions for the season with franchises, highlighting key changes to Rule 4.4 (change of ball in the second innings); 5.8.3 (bat checks); 18.5.1 and 18.5.2 (deliberate short runs); 19.5.2 (fielder grounded beyond the boundary); 28.7.6 (restriction on the placement of the fielder); and Appendix D-3.9 (combining umpire review with player review).A glance at the new season’s playing conditions, in possession of this website, does not reveal any obvious changes, but the rules around ball replacement have been elaborated in detail – something that was absent in last year’s playing conditions. Rule 4.4 in the latest playing conditions reads:Ball Replacement Rules in IPL MatchesIf, during play, the ball is lost, cannot be recovered, or is deemed unfit for use due to normal wear and tear, the umpires will replace it with another ball that has a similar level of wear. Once the replacement is made, the umpires will inform both the batter and the fielding captain.Ball Change Rule in the Second InningsIn evening matches, the team bowling second is allowed to request one ball change after the completion of the 10th over. The request must be made only by the bowling captain and it must be made at the end of an over (not during an over). This rule applies only once in the second innings, regardless of dew conditions, replacement ball will have similar wear and tear as the previous one.Additionally, the umpires retain the authority to change the ball at any time during the match at their discretion.

Key Scenarios Explained

Scenario 1: If the umpires replace the ball before the 10th over due to it being wet, damaged, lost, or out of shape, the fielding captain still retains the right to request a ball change after the 10th over. In this case, the umpires are required to approve the request.Scenario 2: If the captain requests a ball change after the 10th over (e.g., in the 11th over) due to wet conditions and the umpires replace it: Any further request for a ball change later in the innings will be subject to the umpires’ discretion, not mandatory.Scenario 3: If the captain requests a ball change during the 11th over due to damage or shape issues and the umpires agree: The team can still make their one mandatory request after the 10th over (e.g., due to dew later), and the umpires must approve it.There are also other items like team sheet, toss, broadcast media commitments and awards, about which there is no elaboration. The session will begin with an introduction by IPL COO Hemang Aming.
