'They are talking sense': Trump says Iran 'agreed to not have nuclear weapon'

US President Donald Trump said Iran has agreed it will “never have a nuclear weapon”, even as fighting in the region continued and Tehran publicly denied that formal negotiations are underway.Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump projected confidence that diplomatic efforts were gaining traction after nearly a month of war. “The fact that they are talking to us and they are talking sense. It all starts with: they cannot have a nuclear weapon. They said, what are the top 10? I said, number 1, 2 and 3 is they can’t have a nuclear weapon… They have agreed that they will never have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

Trump also claimed that Iran had sent what he described as a “very big present” linked to the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a sign that the US was “dealing with the right people”. He did not elaborate on the nature of the move, but tied it to broader efforts to reopen the vital oil shipping route, which has been disrupted during the conflict. The President added that the US was in a strong negotiating position. “We will have control of anything we want. If we can end this without more lives being down… I would like to be able to do that. They can’t have certain things. It starts with no nuclear weapons, and they have agreed to that,” he said.Despite Trump’s optimism, Iranian officials have rejected claims that talks are taking place. Tehran has instead struck a defiant tone, insisting it will continue fighting “until complete victory” even as international mediation efforts gather pace.Pakistan has emerged as a potential intermediary, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offering to host talks. Trump acknowledged that multiple senior figures, including Vice President J D Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, were involved in outreach efforts.Reports suggest Washington has floated a 15-point proposal that would impose strict limits on Iran’s nuclear programme, including ending uranium enrichment and transferring enriched material. In return, sanctions relief and assistance with civilian nuclear energy projects could be offered, alongside guarantees to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. There are also indications that a temporary ceasefire could be explored to create space for negotiations, although no formal agreement has been confirmed.

War intensifies even as talks discussed

On the ground, the conflict shows little sign of easing. Israeli strikes have targeted sites across Iran and allied positions in the region, while Iranian missiles and drones have hit Israel and neighbouring countries. The United States is also increasing its military footprint, with around 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division expected to deploy, joining thousands of Marines already heading to the Middle East. The build-up has fuelled speculation that Washington is preparing contingency plans even as it pursues diplomacy. At the same time, the Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of the talks, with disruptions sending global oil prices sharply higher and raising concerns about the wider economic fallout.

Kashmiri separatist Andrabi gets life term, 2 aides 30 yrs

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court Tuesday sentenced Kashmiri separatist and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment for conspiring to commit a crime against the State.Additional sessions judge Chander Jit Singh also sentenced two of Andrabi’s associates, Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen, to 30 years’ imprisonment in the case. The court awarded life sentences to Andrabi under Section 18 (punishment for conspiracy) of the UAPA and under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 121 A of the erstwhile IPC. Section 18 of UAPA says, The court said the sentences will run concurrently. The three had been sentenced on Jan 14, following which the NIA had sought life imprisonment for Andrabi, saying she had waged war against India, and a stern message was required to be sent that conspiring against the State would invite the harshest penalty. In its 286-page order, the court said Andrabi and her associates hatched a conspiracy for the secession of Kashmir from India. Rejecting the defence’s submissions, the court held “treating the convicts with leniency will amount to infusing a fresh lease of life and vigour in the spirit of convicts which aims at secession of an integral part of India.”

Who is Mashhoor Amrohi? The actor who became Nawab Shafiq in ‘Dhurandhar 2’ |

In the exciting realm of cinematic transformations, Mashhoor Amrohi, the talented grandson of Kamal Amrohi, is turning heads with his stunning portrayal of a character reminiscent of Nawaz Sharif in the much-anticipated ‘Dhurandhar 2’. Utilizing remarkable prosthetics and makeup techniques, his metamorphosis has not only dazzled moviegoers but also ignited a frenzy of discussions across social media platforms.

Mashhoor Amrohi recently grabbed headlines for his brief yet impactful appearance as Nawab Shafiq in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, popularly dubbed ‘Dhurandhar 2’. Despite featuring in just a couple of scenes, his uncanny resemblance to a character inspired by Nawaz Sharif sparked a wave of memes and online discussions, leaving audiences curious about the man behind the role.

Who is Mashhoor Amrohi?

Born into a legacy of cinema, Mashhoor Amrohi is the grandson of legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi. Despite his strong film lineage, he chose to build his career away from the spotlight, gradually working his way through the industry.

Apart from acting, Mashhoor has also explored filmmaking, working behind the camera as a director and writer. Over the years, he has appeared in projects like ‘War’, ‘Accused’, and ‘Freedom at Midnight’, taking on diverse roles and steadily honing his craft. While many of his performances went under the radar, they contributed to shaping his versatility as an actor. Known for his understated presence, Mashhoor has largely stayed away from mainstream attention—until his recent breakout moment.

More about his performance in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge

Amrohi’s recent performance, however, has placed him firmly in the spotlight. The response to his transformation has been overwhelming, even for the actor himself. Speaking about the attention to Mid-Day, Mashhoor shared, “For me, the biggest compliment is that nobody believes it is me. Some are saying that it’s AI. I had not anticipated this kind of adulation. There are memes and pictures all over the internet.” This disbelief among viewers highlights just how convincing his portrayal turned out to be.Interestingly, Mashhoor does not naturally resemble the political figure his character draws inspiration from. Director Aditya Dhar and casting director Mukesh Chhabra envisioned him in the role. Achieving that look required hours of effort and precision.Recalling the process, he said, “When we sat for the first make-up test, we didn’t quite achieve what the director wanted. We had to depict the [same] body weight, face, and ageing. Preetisheel went all out, I sat through more than eight hours of make-up daily for four days. For the weight, I had a bodysuit with a paunch.”

More about ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the movie has raked in over Rs 519 crore at the box office in five days of its release, including collections from the paid previews. The movie is expected to break records and set a new benchmark for Indian cinema. Starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, the movie was released in theaters on March 19, 2026.

Middle East crisis: PM Modi sets up 7 empowered groups to assess impact of war | India News

Middle East crisis: PM Modi sets up 7 empowered groups to assess impact of war

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the formation of seven empowered groups to assess the implications of the ongoing military conflict in West Asia on energy supplies, essential commodities and supply chains, and chart a strategy to cushion its impact on the Indian economy. In a statement in Rajya Sabha, Modi said the conflict had rattled economies across the world and cautioned that recovery from the damage inflicted in West Asia would take time. Drawing from govt’s playbook during the Covid-19 pandemic, he said the new groups would function as quick-response teams focusing on key areas such as petrol and diesel, fertilisers, gas, supply chains and inflation.“I am fully confident that through these shared and coordinated efforts, we’ll be able to navigate these circumstances more effectively,” the PM said, noting that an inter-ministerial group was already meeting regularly to track developments and address emerging challenges arising out of the situation. The seven panels, comprising senior officers from various ministries and departments, have been tasked with identifying risks and preparing short-, medium- and long-term strategies in a time-bound manner.Their mandate includes assessing vulnerabilities in energy supplies and pricing, ensuring adequacy of strategic reserves, and taking steps to manage price volatility and prevent supply disruptions. They will also examine potential bottlenecks – from shipping routes and ports to aviation corridors and critical imports and recommend pre-emptive measures. The groups are expected to explore alternative sources of imports to reduce dependence on any single region, while keeping a close watch on domestic availability and price stability of essential commodities, including food, fertilisers and fuels.During the pandemic, govt had set up 11 such empowered groups comprising officials and experts to take swift decisions and ensure coordination between the Centre and the states. Flagging the likelihood of a prolonged disruption, Modi said the conflict’s adverse effects may last a long time. “But I assure people that govt remains vigilant and proactive, and is taking every necessary decision with seriousness.”

Bombay high court dismisses petition challenging Narendra Mehta’s election victory | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Tuesday dismissed an election petition that challenged the victory of BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Narendra Mehta, 54, in the 2024 polls from Mira-Bhayandar constituency in Maharashtra. Justice Sharmila Deshmukh held that the petition by Nayana Vasani lacks necessary specific details mandated under law when challenging an election.Mehta, declared elected on Nov 23, 2024 as MLA of the Mira-Bhayander constituency, through his advocate Amogh Singh, argued for dismissal of the petition filed last year.Balkrishna Joshi, Vasani’s counsel, argued for quashing of the election on two grounds, one of which was “improper acceptance” of Mehta’s nomination over “suppression of criminal cases” pending against him and non-disclosure of details of assets, which constitutes corrupt practice under the Representation of People Act.The HC, in a detailed 29-page ruling, said the law requires specifics of the allegations against the elected representative. “The burden is necessarily on the party who approaches the Court seeking the relief that the election be declared void. There is no right to challenge the election outside the statute and there has to be strict compliance of the statutory provisions,” said Justice Deshmukh, adding that the petitioner is not only required to point out the suppression and the elected representative tasked with furnishing the necessary details. “Absence of material facts to substantiate the suppression would constitute non-compliance of Section 83(1)(b) of RP Act. Non-disclosure of a cause of action would entail rejection of the petition.”The HC held that the election petition was “bereft” of pleadings that demonstrate improper acceptance of the nomination form affected the poll result. The petition against Mehta said he suppressed two FIRs for 2020 and 2022. Mehta’s counsel argued that the law requires disclosure of criminal offences in which charge has been framed by a court or where there is conviction. The HC said the petition “falls short of the specific pleading in order to constitute cause of action for corrupt practice. Section 83(1)(b) demands furnishing of full particulars of corrupt practice. As to what would constitute material facts in case of corrupt practice would depend on facts of each case and in present case, considering that Form 26 prescribed furnishing of details of pending criminal cases, it was necessary to plead about the status of the two FIRs and to produce material to demonstrate the pendency of the two FIRs on the date of filing of affidavit. The petition does not even contain a bare assertion that two FIRs are pending against the applicant, leave aside setting out the status of the FIRs to show pendency.”
