NEW DELHI: India and Bangladesh are once again at the centre of a cricket and political row. This time, it involves the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League.Bangladesh has asked that their matches at next month’s T20 World Cup not be played in India. Instead, they want the games moved to Sri Lanka. The request came after Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released from his IPL team following advice from the BCCI.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor reacted sharply to the development. He took to social media and criticised India’s role in the situation.“Hardly surprising. We have brought this embarrassment upon ourselves,” Shashi Tharoor wrote on X.The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held an emergency meeting on Sunday. After the meeting, the board said it had “formally requested” the ICC to shift their World Cup matches out of India.“The Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh National Team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions,” the BCB said in a statement.The board explained that the decision was taken because of “growing concerns regarding the safety and security” of its players. It also said the move was based on advice from the Bangladeshi government.The issue escalated after Mustafizur Rahman was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders. The IPL franchise was “advised” by the BCCI to do so amid rising tensions between the two countries.Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul reacted strongly. He said the country would not tolerate any disrespect.“will not accept any insult to Bangladeshi cricket, cricketers and Bangladesh under any circumstances.”“The days of slavery are over,” he added.“Where a Bangladeshi cricketer cannot play in India despite being contracted, the entire Bangladeshi cricket team cannot feel safe going to play in the World Cup,” he wrote.The T20 World Cup begins on February 7 and is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh were scheduled to play all four of their group matches in India. Pakistan, meanwhile, will play their matches in Sri Lanka as part of a neutral-venue agreement.Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam Bulbul said that “the dignity and security of our cricketers are our top priorities”.Mustafizur had been bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for over $1 million at the IPL auction in December. But BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that “considering recent developments” the franchise had been “advised to release” him.Nazrul also threatened further action.“I have requested the Information and Broadcasting Adviser to stop the broadcasting of the IPL tournament in Bangladesh,” he said.Kolkata Knight Riders later said Mustafizur’s “release has been carried out following due process and consultations”.The controversy comes at a sensitive time. Political relations between India and Bangladesh have been strained since a mass uprising in 2024 removed Sheikh Hasina from power. Bangladesh will also hold elections on February 12.

The couple divorced in 2012 but remarried in 2013. Their second marriage ended in divorce in 2016.Musk has not married since. He was later in a long-term relationship with musician Grimes, with whom he has children, but the two were never married.

When Elon Musk said Tesla is ‘screwed’

The above comments were made during a tense internal meeting where Colette Niazmand, Tesla marketing executive, told Musk that people found faults with the Tesla Roadster and the company realised that the car “had substandard parts”. Video from the meeting has surfaced online recently. In the video, one of Tesla executives can be seen telling Musk “What’s going on here is the team has been doing a little bit of rework today. I got a message last week that if Roadster can’t sustain the company by March, then…That’s it. And that scares me”. Musk, who became angry by that point, said, “We need to get the company to cash flow positive in six to nine months. Well, we’re screwed. It’s really pedal to metal here. Each month it passes literally costs us tens of millions of dollars”.

A day after capturing Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro and his wife from their, as US President Donald Trump said, “heavily guarded fortress,” the White House released an old clip of Maduro daring Trump to come and get him.The clip details a US military operation, “Operation Absolute Resolve”, carried out on Janaury 3 to capture Maduro in Caracas after a “large-scale strike.” The video depicts a video montage of night-vision footage and official briefings by Trump and other US officials.The video shows a stark imagery of raids and explosions alongside phrases like “come get me” by Maduro.“Nicolas Maduro had his chance — until he didn’t. The Trump Admin will always defend American citizens against all threats, foreign and domestic,” the White House posted on X.Trump announced on Saturday that US forces had carried out a “large-scale strike” in Venezuela, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, following pre-dawn attacks on Caracas that killed at least 40 people and triggered widespread panic across the capital.After reports of multiple explosions and low-flying aircraft, Venezuelan government forces deployed nationwide and the country entered a state of national emergency. Maduro and his wife have now been indicted in New York on terrorism and drug charges, with Trump accusing Maduro of running a “narco terrorist organisation.” A photo released by Trump on his social media platform Truth Social showed Maduro in handcuffs, wearing a blacked-out mask.Attorney General Pam Bondi posted an unsealed indictment charging Maduro with narco-terrorism, cocaine importation conspiracies, and possession of machine guns, offences that carry severe prison sentences when combined with drug trafficking charges.However, the legality of the strike carried out by US forces, codenamed Operation ‘Absolute Resolve’, has sparked intense debate. Critics including international law experts have noted that the US strikes in Venezuela could potentially violate the UN Charter and constitute a “crime of aggression.”The ministry of external affairs on Sunday reiterated India’s support for the safety and well-being of people in Venezuela as the situation in the country remains tense amid US strikes.“Recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of deep concern. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation,” the MEA said in a statement.“We call upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability of the region. The Embassy of India in Caracas is in contact with members of the Indian community and will continue to provide all possible assistance,” it added.

‘Dhurandhar’ has proven to be the biggest hit of 2025 now and it has broken several box office records. The film has now completed a month at the box office and is still dominating over the new releases. It looks like ‘Dhurandhar’ starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan and Sara Arjun, will continue its box office run till ‘Border 2’ releases. After ‘Dhurandhar’, one saw the release of Ananya Panday and Kartik Aaryan‘s romcom ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’ on December 25 but the film turned out to be an average fare at the box office. Meanwhile, last week, one saw the release of Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Ikkis’ starring Agastya Nanda and despite competition from ‘Dhurandhar’, the film is seeing some steady growth and it could also do with the fact that it’s Dharmendra’s last onscreen appearance apart from the good word of mouth for the film. But ‘Dhurandhar’ is unstoppable. The film is on a record-breaking spree and now the only record left to be broken is that of ‘Pushpa 2’. Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, is the only other film to achieve this feat, bringing in Rs 1234.1 crore net domestically, out of which Rs 812.14 crore came from the Hindi market. After collecting a whopping Rs 106.5 crore by the end of its fourth week, the film began fifth Friday on a grand note and collected Rs 8.75 crore. On fifth Saturday which is day 30, it made Rs 11.75 crore. And now on Sunday, day 31, the film has made Rs 3.02 crore till afternoon. The total collection of ‘Dhurandhar’ now stands at Rs 762.52 crore.On the other hand, ‘Tu Meri Main Tera..’ has begun its second Sunday (today) on a dull note and made Rs 14 lakhs around the same time. The film’s total collection is now Rs 31.44 crore. Agastya’s ‘Ikkis’ has made Rs 82 lakhs so far on Sunday on day 4. The total collection of the film so far by the end of three days is Rs 15.97 crore which is pretty decent for the film. Clearly, it has performed better ‘Tu Meri Main Tera..’.

The first video of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro arriving in the United States was released on Saturday (local time), showing him handcuffed and escorted by US officials as he stepped off a helicopter at New York’s Stewart Airport.Hours earlier, Maduro was captured by US forces during a late-night operation in Venezuela. US President Donald Trump had also shared the first image of Maduro in custody, showing him handcuffed and blindfolded aboard a US warship.

After landing in New York, a motorcade believed to be carrying Maduro exited the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) headquarters on Manhattan’s West Side Highway before briefly heading north and then returning to a heliport, according to BBC. Officials said Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, were flown by helicopter to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Three helicopters were seen travelling down the Hudson River, passing the Statue of Liberty, before landing. From there, the couple were transported to the detention facility in a convoy of law enforcement vehicles.According to US authorities, Maduro was arrested in Venezuela and flown out of the capital, Caracas, in the early hours of Saturday aboard a US helicopter. He was first taken to the USS Iwo Jima at an undisclosed location in the Caribbean Sea.From there, he was flown to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, before being transferred to another aircraft that took him to Stewart Air Force Base in New York State’s Orange County. Trump says US will ‘run’ the country​​​US Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York.The charges include conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States, possession of machine guns and destructive devices and conspiracy to possess such weapons against the US.US media reports said that the booking process for the couple has already begun. This includes taking fingerprints, biometric data and mugshots, along with medical examinations. Their details will then be entered into the US Customs and Border Protection system.Maduro and his wife are expected to be formally produced in court, possibly as early as Monday.Earlier, Trump had shared the first image of Maduro following his capture, posting a photograph of the Venezuelan leader aboard the USS Iwo Jima. “Nicolas Maduro on board the USS Iwo Jima,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.Speaking later on Fox and Friends Weekend, Trump said Maduro and Flores were seized during a night-time operation and flown directly to a US warship. He claimed Maduro had been heavily guarded inside a fortified palace and that US forces had rehearsed the operation in advance.The operation reportedly lasted less than 30 minutes and took place amid explosions in Caracas and other locations. Venezuela’s government condemned the action as a “serious military aggression” and declared a state of emergency, while the US said its forces suffered minimal casualties. Maduro now remains in US custody as legal proceedings move forward in New York.The White House’s official Rapid Response account later posted a video showing what appeared to be a “perp walk” of the ousted Venezuelan leader at the DEA office in Manhattan.The video showed Maduro wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and walking handcuffed alongside DEA agents down a blue-carpeted hallway marked “DEA NYD,” according to CNN.The footage showed Maduro being processed and fingerprinted at the DEA office. As he walked with agents, Maduro appeared to attempt speaking in English.“Good night,” he said, before correcting himself in Spanish: “Es buenas noches, no?” — meaning, “That is good night, no?”He then repeated “good night” to those present and added, “Happy New Year”.
