Veteran actress Mumtaz is known for always being very vocal about her opinions. She has also been extremely honest while talking about her life, be it her relationship with Shammi Kapoor, her marriage or her daughter Natasha Madhvani’s marriage with Fardeen Khan. In an earlier interview with The Times of India, Mumtaz also spoke about the speculations around their marriage. “They are saying they are separating, but they still aren’t divorced. Even if they do divorce, they won’t be truly separated because of their kids,” she had revealed. While Natasha currently lives in London with their children and Fardeen remains based in Mumbai, the two continue to stay connected as co-parents. In a recent interview, Mumtaz once again discussed the situation and suggested that the death of Fardeen’s father, Feroz Khan, may have played a role in the couple drifting apart. She said during an interview with ‘Sitaron Ka Safar’, “What happened was that when Feroz passed away, he was very attached to his father. So I don’t really know what happened at that time. Natasha was shifted to London for the children’s education. After that, I’m not sure what misunderstandings arose between them. But that’s when some problems began.”

She added, “What else can I say? And what can I even say, they are grown-ups themselves now, and are the parents of the children.”During the same conversation, Mumtaz also praised Fardeen for the way he has continued to show up for his family. “Fardeen is a very good, sweet guy. Even today, he goes to London to see the children. Natasha was unwell, and he went ten times to check on her. I never expected that men these days would do so, but he looked after everything.”The actress has previously spoken fondly about him as well. In a chat with journalist Vickey Lalwani, she recalled the time of his birth and said, “Even today, Fardeen seems like a gem to me. He is my favorite. MUMBAI: A 24-year-old Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) student allegedly died by suicide in Mumbai, leaving behind a six-page note in which she accused her boyfriend of mentally harassing her and humiliating her over their relationship. The deceased, Stuti Sonawane, was found hanging at her home in the Antop Hill area on Monday. Police arrested her boyfriend, Fazal Mohammad Khan (31), an insurance agent, from Lower Parel later the same day. According to police, Sonawane’s suicide note forms a crucial part of the investigation and details the emotional distress she allegedly faced during her relationship.

What the suicide note said

Police said the student wrote about the mental trauma she experienced because of repeated humiliation and insults from her boyfriend. In the note, she wrote about her relationship with her former boyfriend, whom she met on a dating app. She became friends with him and was in a relationship with him for one and half years. In the note she alleged that her former boyfriend humiliated and insulted her, which resulted in her suffering severe mental trauma. “However, over the course of time the duo realised that their relationship will not last and due to various reasons they cannot go ahead and hence decided to break off and be just friends,” a police official said. During the investigation, police learnt that another man had entered the woman’s life after the break-up, which reportedly upset Khan. This led to a scuffle between the two. “In a fit of rage, Khan allegedly used some derogatory words against her, which affected her mentally and which she mentioned in her note,” the police said.

Friends joked about ‘fridge’ remark

Police also said that the student mentioned in her note that her friends were aware of her troubled relationship. According to the note, the woman’s friends knew about her troubles with her boyfriend and would often joke and say, “We don’t want to see you in the fridge.”

How the incident came to light

The incident came to light on Monday morning when Sonawane did not come out of her room till around 11am. Her parents called out to her but received no response. Growing suspicious, they broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling, police said. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Arrest and case registered

Police said Sonawane had named Khan in the six-page note and accused him of constant harassment. Based on a complaint filed by her parents, the Antop Hill police arrested Khan, a resident of Worli. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 108 (abetment of suicide). Further investigation is underway.

MUMBAI: The Session Court has granted anticipatory bail to developer Munaf Vadgama and is four kin accused in a cheating and criminal breach of trust case linked to a redevelopment dispute in Mazgaon.The additional Session judge Avinash P. Kulkarni, while allowing anticipatory bail directed that Sajida Munaf Vadgama, Aslam Ismail Merchant, Munaf Kadar Vadgama, and Tausif Hanif Shaikh be released on bail in the event of arrest in connection with registered at Sir J. J. Marg Police Station.The case was registered under Sections 406 and 420 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint filed by Julie Coelho, who alleged that a partnership firm, M/s Aafiyah Realtors, had failed to provide a promised alternate shop premises after redeveloping a building at Dimtimkar Road, Nagpada.According to the complaint, the original tenant of the shop, the late Antonia Coelho, had executed agreements with the developer for redevelopment in return for a permanent alternate premises of about 350 sq ft and rent for temporary accommodation. However, despite completion of the building, the promised shop was allegedly not handed over.The complainant also alleged that the accused had offered a one-time settlement of ₹1.10 crore and issued post-dated cheques, which were later dishonoured due to insufficient funds.During the hearing, the defence argued that the dispute was essentially civil in nature and related to surrender of tenancy rights. They contended that the original tenant had executed a deed of surrender and received substantial payments from the developer over several years.The court observed that documents placed on record indicated payments totalling about ₹59.59 lakh made in multiple instalments to the complainant’s family, and noted that custodial interrogation of the accused did not appear necessary.The court granted pre-arrest bail subject to conditions, including executing a bond of ₹20,000 each and appearing before the investigating officer at the police station every Monday for three months or until filing of the chargesheet. The accused were also directed not to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses.

Veteran comedian Johny Lever has entertained audiences for decades, but his family once went through a deeply challenging phase when his son Jesse Lever was diagnosed with a tumour in his neck at a young age. In a recent conversation, his daughter Jamie Lever opened up about the difficult period and how faith helped the family cope.Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, Jamie recalled that Jesse was still in school when the family first realised something was wrong.

‘He had a tumour when he was in school’

Recalling the early signs, Jamie said, “He had a tumour when he was in school. At first, we didn’t understand what it was, but then it became uncontrollable. It started making him uncomfortable. He even changed the way he dressed to hide the tumour.”She added that as an elder sister she felt extremely protective of him. “As a sister, I felt like I needed to protect him. We were in the same school, and I was always very protective about him.”Jamie said the diagnosis soon led to the possibility of a complicated surgery that changed the family’s life.“We had to go into surgery, and it was very difficult and complicated. During that phase, our life changed completely. We were always a God-fearing family, but after this incident, things became very spiritual and real for us.”

‘Money and fame will fade away’

The experience also made the family reflect on what truly matters, Jamie shared.“It suddenly taught us that money and fame will fade away. What truly matters is family, faith, and being there for each other. During that time, we came together as a family, prayed a lot, and completely surrendered our lives to God.”Watching her parents go through the crisis was particularly painful for her.“I saw my parents go through a very tough time caring for their son. Jesse was a very pampered child. To see him go through surgery and recovery was heartbreaking. But today, we are very proud of the person he has become. He is extremely strong. ‘The first surgery in Mumbai failed’

Jamie also revealed that Jesse underwent two surgeries during the treatment process.“We had one surgery in Mumbai which failed. Then we had another surgery in America, which was a very long one. So he went through two surgeries. It was a two-year process.”During that time, the family turned deeply to prayer.“When the first surgery failed, we started praying a lot. As a family, we would constantly pray. People would come to our house and pray with us. When my parents took Jesse to America for the second surgery, we stayed in India and prayed 24/7.”

‘My dad went down on his knees and prayed’

Jamie also recalled an emotional moment involving her father.“My dad went down on his knees and asked God if he should let his son go through the second surgery. At that moment, he felt as if he heard God’s voice telling him, ‘Go for it.’”Interestingly, the trip to the United States was not initially planned for treatment.“We had gone to the US for a summer holiday. My parents were just trying to fulfil every wish Jesse had because he was unwell.”According to Jamie, a chance encounter in a church led them to the hospital where Jesse eventually underwent surgery.“We were in a church when a priest noticed him and asked what had happened. When we told him about the tumour, he gave us the name of a hospital and said, ‘God is going to heal him.’ It felt like a sign from God, so we immediately followed up. The surgery happened there, and he came out fine.”

‘We would never return to that lifestyle’

Jamie said the experience changed the family’s perspective on fame and life.“After that, we decided we would never return to the lifestyle where fame got into our heads. My dad had gone through a phase where he became an alcoholic and was away from home a lot. It was a traumatic time for us. But that phase ultimately brought us closer as a family. Today, fame and money don’t affect us the way they once did.”She added that the siblings now remain connected to their faith through music at church.“Now we go to church every Sunday. Whenever I’m not shooting or performing, I sing in church. My brother plays the drums, and I sing. We absolutely love doing it.”

NASHIK: The Kolgaon gram panchayat in Ahilyanagar’s Shrigonda on Sunday passed a resolution to penalise individuals using abusive language involving someone’s mother or sister. The idea emerged when a woman from an agricultural family and a self-help Group member suggested it during a felicitation programme organised to honour women achievers in the village on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.Kolgaon, a village of around 9,000 residents comprising diverse castes and religions, primarily relies on agriculture. On Sunday, in line with govt directives, a special women’s gram sabha was convened under the chairpersonship of senior anganwadi sevika (worker) Shakuntala Deshmukh.Sarpanch Purushottam Lagad told TOI that during the sabha, women who had made noteworthy contributions to agriculture and other fields were felicitated. “It was during this event that Puja Jagtap proposed taking action against villagers who use abusive expressions referring to someone’s mother or sister,” Lagad said.

The issue raised by Puja Jagtap prompted a detailed discussion at the gram sabha. “After considerable deliberation, it was decided to impose a fine of Rs 500 on anyone found using such derogatory language,” the sarpanch said.To prevent the misuse of the rule, it was agreed that fines would be levied only when digital evidence was provided. “Since the proposal originated from women, the panchayat urged them (and, if required, their children) to take the lead in identifying offenders,” Lagad said, adding that the collected fines would be used for village development.Jagtap told TOI, “Insulting someone by referring to their mother or sister has become extremely common. Girls grow up to become women who shoulder family responsibilities. Their identities should not be demeaned to the point where such abuses are accepted casually.”The gram sabha also passed a resolution regarding cleanliness, urging residents to maintain the cleanliness at their homes and commercial establishments. Anyone found violating this, based on photographic evidence submitted to the gram panchayat, would be fined Rs 100.Besides, Lagad said for the past year, following another resolution, village children study from 7pm to 9pm without any television or cellphone usage at home — a rule that even parents follow.

Salman Khan‘s ‘Sikandar’ was made on a massive budget of Rs 200 crore as per reports but managed to collect only about Rs 176 crore worldwide. The film’s failure continues to be spoken about. It was directed by AR Murugadoss and months after the release, the director had attributed the film’s underperformance to Salman’s alleged lack of punctuality and commitment during the shoot. However, later, Salman had denied these claims in his own witty, sarcastic way. Now, actor Jatin Sarna, who appeared in the film as a taxi driver, has spoken up in Salman’s defence. Sharing his perspective in an interview with The Lallantop, Sarna said, “I seriously can’t pinpoint the failure on any one thing. I just know that everyone was working hard. I call Salman sir Seth. So, Seth is very hardworking. He used to come on time and work very hard. The director’s vision was shaping up very well at that time. If you analyze it that way, it’s a very wonderful story.”

The actor also spoke about the support he received from Salman on set. “I seriously have no idea what went wrong. Because when I used to go to that set, I used to enjoy it a lot… to work with Salman sir, to see his admiration and love. When he felt I’m performing well in a scene, he asked that my dialogues and scenes should be increased. He supported me a lot. The film was made very well. I don’t know why the audience didn’t feel like that,” he said.

Sarna, who is also known for his work in the series ‘Sacred Games’, added that many people he spoke to had positive things to say about the film. “I watched the film on the first day of release itself. I really liked it because I knew the story, so I began thinking from that angle. And everyone else, who went to watch it with me, also liked it. A lot of people told me later also that they liked it a lot. Now, I don’t know about its overall impact,” he said.Addressing Murugadoss’ earlier remarks, Sarna maintained that he personally never witnessed Salman being late on set. “If I’m not wrong, Salman sir said in an interview that he has a particular style of working. So, the director might have said, ‘Yes, I don’t have a problem.’ Cut to: as far as I know, Seth would arrive before my call time,” he recalled.He further described the effort Salman was putting into the film despite health issues. “He would be exercising and cycling even though his ribs were broken and he had a shoulder issue. The taxi in the scene was very small, so it was very tough for a man to go in and out. He was doing all of that. He was there singing, dancing, and doing everything,” Sarna said.According to him, Salman was also juggling other major commitments while shooting for the film. “He used to finish the shoot of Bigg Boss before doing his scenes. He was so tired, but he was there. He wasn’t given any leeway. So, I never found him coming late. He was working at least as much as he was expected to,” he added, referring to the actor hosting Bigg Boss 18 and its popular segment Weekend Ka Vaar.However, Murugadoss has continued to stand by his earlier statement about the film’s struggles. Reflecting on the experience in an interview with Valaipechu Voice, he said, “It’s not easy to shoot with a star. Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up on set only by 8 pm. We are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that’s not how things work there.”Salman later addressed the issue while hosting an episode of ‘Bigg Boss 18’ Weekend Ka Vaar. He explained that his delayed arrivals on set were due to a broken rib he sustained while filming action sequences for Sikandar. He also pointed out that if punctuality alone determined a film’s success, Murugadoss’ 2025 Tamil action film Madhraasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, should not have failed. The film reportedly collected only Rs 62.57 crore domestically against a budget of Rs 100 crore, performing even worse than Sikandar.
