‘Most ISL clubs prefer phased relegation’ | Goa News

Indian football is back waiting for directions from Supreme Court after its tender to commercialise the rights of the top tier ISL for 15 years found no takers

Panaji: Most clubs in the top tier of Indian football have indicated to KPMG, the company that prepared the request for proposal (RFP) to monetise the rights of the Indian Super League (ISL), “a preference for phased relegation” and expressed concern on commercial sustainability of a relegated club.Clubs pointed out the “wide commercial, reputational and quality gap between the top-tier ISL and second division I-League,” according to KPMG findings which have now been submitted to the Supreme Court by Justice (Retd) L Nageswara Rao.Appointed by the Supreme Court, Justice Rao supervised the process of constitutional reform within the AIFF and is now chairman of the bid evaluation committee (BEC).Indian football is back waiting for directions from Supreme Court after its tender to commercialise the rights of the top tier ISL for 15 years found no takers.Promotion and relegation, now part of the approved Constitution, was one of the reasons cited by prospective bidders — FSDL, Sporta Technologies, Raak Advisory and Supersub Management (representing Conexus) — for not making a bid. One bidder said it “could hamper the football ecosystem and its long-term development.”Promotion and relegation has been a bone of contention in Indian football ever since the ISL was accorded the top tier status in 2019. While ISL clubs continue to be immune from relegation – despite assurances by the AIFF to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) while charting out the Roadmap – the league grants entry on sporting merit to I-League champions. Punjab FC, Mohammedan Sporting and now Inter Kashi have all moved to the top after winning the second tier competition.According to Justice Rao’s report, prospective bidders had several concerns, with most expressing apprehension that the commercial partner, despite assuming substantial operational and financial responsibility, would have limited representation within the governing council.Bidders also felt that the Rs 37.5 crore annual minimum guarantee payment was “on the higher side and did not adequately reflect the current dynamics of sports monetisation in India.”In his recommendation that seeks to “strike a balanced approach by preserving the AIFF’s regulatory role while making the commercial framework more viable, and attractive to prospective bidders,” Justice Rao has suggested reconsidering the financial obligations stipulated in the RFP, reconstitution of the governing council to provide the commercial partner with equal representation, and permission for bidders to independently sub-licence media rights in line with its commercial strategy, without requiring prior approval of the federation.Significantly, Justice Rao has made no mention about promotion and relegation in his report which has now been submitted to the Supreme Court.Promotion and relegation has been a bone of contention in Indian football ever since the ISL was accorded the top tier status in 2019. BJP issues show-cause notice to party worker after photo of former corporator who left party was blackened | Thane News

ULHASNAGAR: The BJP on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to one of its office-bearers after party workers removed the photograph of former corporator Mahesh Sukhramani from the Ulhasnagar party office, threw it outside, and smeared it with black ink. The act, carried out in protest after Sukhramani’s defection, triggered strong political reactions and exposed growing unrest within the BJP’s local unit ahead of the upcoming civic elections.Sukhramani, once considered a prominent face of the BJP in Ulhasnagar, was among six former corporators who recently left the party to join the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and its local ally Team Omie Kalani (TOK). His departure, viewed as a setback for the BJP, angered several workers who labelled his exit a “betrayal.”

Following the incident, the four leaders who joined TOK — Mahesh Sukhramani, Jamnu Puruswani, Prakash Makhija, and Ram Parwani — held a press conference sharply criticising the BJP workers’ behaviour. They said that after years of working to strengthen the BJP in the city, they were forced to leave due to internal neglect. He acknowledged the contributions of the former corporators and confirmed that Sukhramani’s photo had been reinstated in the party office. Shocking Radicalisation Video of Red Fort Blast Accused Umar Un Nabi Revealed | Delhi News

A chilling video from Red Fort blast accused Umar Un Nabi surfaces, where he attempts to justify suicide bombings as a ‘martyrdom operation’ in Islam

NEW DELHI: Dr Umar Un Nabi, the man behind the deadly Red Fort blast on November 10, had recorded a bone-chilling video in which he calmly discussed the concept of suicide bombing.During the investigation into the Delhi bombing, officers recovered an undated video showing Umar sitting alone in a room, speaking with disturbing ease about suicide attacks. He says that what is commonly described as a suicide bombing is, in his view, a “martyrdom operation”, a term he claims is known in Islam. In the video, Umar claims that what is commonly referred to as a suicide bombing is “not understood correctly.” He argues that many “contradictions and objections” have been raised against it, but insists that the act is a deliberate operation carried out by someone who believes they will certainly die at a specific place and time.“One of the biggest misunderstandings is what people label as suicide bombing,” Umar says in the footage.“When a person believes he is definitely going to die at a particular time or a particular place, he goes against the presumption that he is going to die in a particular situation. If not, we don’t have a situation.”The video intended to brainwash and radicalise others, as Umar was considered the most ideologically extreme member of the so-called “white-collar” Faridabad terror module behind the attack. In the undated footage, Umar elaborates on his definition of a “martyrdom operation,” saying it involves a person assuming with certainty that they will die in a particular situation—an idea he attempts to distinguish from suicide, despite both leading to the same fatal outcome. The high-intensity blast ripped through a bustling street near the Red Fort, shattering shopfronts and triggering panic across Old Delhi, leaving 15 dead and 28 injured.
