Mahima Chaudhry opens up about her breast cancer diagnosis, ‘There were no symptoms, I just went in for a yearly check-up’ |

Actress Mahima Chaudhry has emerged as a powerful advocate for women’s health, leveraging her personal journey as a breast cancer survivor to spread awareness about the life-saving importance of early detection. Speaking passionately at the Young Women Breast Cancer Conference 2025, the actress delivered a compelling call to action. In a recent event, she urged women across all age groups to make regular medical screenings a non-negotiable priority, emphasizing that vigilance and prompt checks are the most critical tools in the fight against the disease.

Mahima stresses that breast cancer often shows “no symptoms”

Speaking passionately at the Young Women Breast Cancer Conference 2025, Mahima recounted the moment her cancer was discovered in 2022, Mahima shared that her diagnosis came as a complete surprise. She explained that breast cancer can remain undetected without proper testing, no matter how healthy one feels or appears.

Mahima Chaudhry reveals Sonali Bendre gave her the ‘warmest and longest call’ when she got diagnosed with cancer: I slept like a baby post that

“There were no symptoms. I didn’t go in for a breast cancer screening. I just went in for a yearly check-up. I had no clue I had breast cancer. Cancer is something that you can’t recognize on your own early. It can only be detected early through tests. So if you keep going in for a yearly check-up, you will be able to detect it early and seek early treatment…” she told ANI on the sidelines of the event.

Mahima notes “huge difference” in cancer treatment today

Mahima also reflected on how much the healthcare landscape has evolved since her diagnosis. She pointed out improvements in affordability, access, and awareness, calling them encouraging signs for patients undergoing treatment now.“Since my diagnosis three to four years ago, there has been a huge difference in cancer treatment in India. Many generic medicines are much cheaper now, you get better support from pharmaceutical companies, and there’s much more awareness of cancer… I got a lot of motivation by hearing the stories of other people fighting strongly against cancer…” she said.

On the work front

Mahima was last seen in The Signature, starring alongside Anupam Kher. The film, produced by KC Bokadia and Anupam Kher Studio, centres on the story of Arvind (played by Kher), whose life is thrown into turmoil when his wife collapses just before a long-awaited trip.

NCP Protests Waste Management Failure by Dumping Garbage Outside Thane Municipal HQ | Thane News

THANE: The NCP (Sharad Pawar) on Monday morning dumped a truckload of garbage outside the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) headquarters, protesting the civic body’s failure to clear mounting waste from Kalwa and Mumbra suburbs over the last few days. The protest began around 11 a.m., led by Youth Wing President Abhijit Pawar, with former corporator and opposition leader Shanu Pathan joining the sit-in outside the Commissioner’s office. Pawar accused the administration of collecting taxes but failing to deliver basic services. “Garbage hasn’t been lifted from Kalwa and Mumbra for days. This seems like a deliberate attempt by the ruling parties to stop trash collection and disrupt water supply ahead of elections. If the situation isn’t fixed, we will dump waste in officials’ cabins, outside their homes, and also outside the Commissioner’s bungalow,” he warned.Protesters said contractors have halted garbage collection citing the lack of a dumping ground, leading to trash piling up outside several housing societies. They gathered the accumulated waste and unloaded it at the civic headquarters, sparking commotion. The agitation, coming ahead of the municipal polls, is being viewed as an attempt by the NCP-SP to corner the Shiv Sena, which has ruled the TMC for 25 years and apparently failed to create a dedicated dumping ground. Thane generates about 1,100 MT of garbage daily, yet lacks a long-term disposal plan, activists alleged. They warned that if the issue is not addressed immediately, the next load of trash would be dumped outside the Municipal Commissioner’s residence.Civic officials, meanwhile, said they were addressing the issue and assured that waste was being transported to the Bhiwandi dumping site.

Mumbai CNG shutdown cripples transport: Over 3 lakh autos, taxis, buses hit as supply stops; 486 stations closed after pipeline damage | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Road transport on the first day of the workweek could be crippled. Operations at all 486 CNG refuelling stations in MMR came to a sudden halt on Sunday afternoon after the main gas pipeline at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers’ Chembur plant was damaged and the supply to Mahanagar Gas Ltd’s (MGL) station in Wadala disconnected.Autos, taxis, buses and aggregator cabs like Uber and Ola were hit, as were over 5 lakh private cars that run on CNG. Sources said the supply could remain suspended till Monday morning as repair and restoration work could take time.A senior MGL official said the work was being expedited to ensure the supply is restored “at the earliest”. At the time of going to press, the official said a few CNG outlets could open by Sunday night but most others would stay shut.

-

There were long queues of autos outside some CNG outlets. “It is frustrating as we are unable to run our vehicles,” said an auto driver from Bhandup. A driver with a taxi aggregator said he had to resort to refuelling with petrol. “But there are several cabs that run only on CNG and they have been hit badly and are off the roads. Aggregator cabs will be unavailable on Monday if the CNG crisis continues overnight,” he said. Mumbai Rickshawmen’s Union leader Thampy Kurien pointed out that not many share autos run outside railway stations on Sunday but warned that the crisis could worsen when offices reopen on Monday. “We cannot keep autos off roads for two days. It will affect the livelihood of many drivers across the suburbs. There are nearly 3 lakh autos running in the city daily.” Kurien demanded that MGL find alternative solutions when such scenarios arise. “In the recent past, there was a similar situation of CNG supply being cut, but it was restored the same day.” MGL urged industrial and commercial consumers to switch to alternative fuel in the meantime. “We are ensuring that supply to domestic PNG consumers (cooking gas) would be maintained on priority without interruption. However, CNG stations across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, including the dedicated CNG stations for public transport undertakings, may not operate…”

Ajit Pawar-linked trust among those keen on Shatabdi hospital PPP | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s family-run trust has expressed interest in taking over operations of the 580-bed medical college at Govandi’s newly built Shatabdi Hospital, according to tender documents. The move comes even after opposition to public-private partnership projects from unions, residents, and health activists in the area. The hospital, constructed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore over five years in one of Mumbai’s poorest areas, received three expressions of interest. One of the parties was rejected for failing to meet technical requirements.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s ‘How Dare You’ Retort At IPS Officer Triggers Political Firestorm

Terna Public Charitable Trust, headed by Padmasinh Patil, half-brother of Sunetra Pawar (wife of Ajit Pawar), and whose trustee is Pawar’s nephew and BJP Tuljapur MLA Ranajagjitsinha Patil, is one of the two parties that will now participate in the bidding process. A Telangana-based group, Surabhi Educational Society, which runs the Surabhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Siddipet, has also expressed interest in operating the Shatabdi Hospital campus. Of its 580 proposed beds, only 264 would be reserved for BMC patients, defined in the expression-of-interest documents as only those who are residents of Mumbai and MMR who hold yellow or orange ration cards issued by the Maharashtra govt, effectively excluding everyone else. The second facility, which incidentally falls in the same M-East Ward as Shatabdi and is also set for privatisation, is the 480-bed Lallubhai Compound Hospital. The hospital is surrounded by rehabilitated slum dwellers, and only about 150 beds would be set aside for BMC patients.Dr Abhay Shukla, part of Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, the health advocacy group which has been opposing PPP, said, “There is a clear conflict of interest. When such decisions are taken, abuse of power cannot be ruled out. Operating a medical college is profitable; it also helps increase political influence. There is no way to ensure accountability if they (Terna) are selected to run the hospital.”BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said, “Same rules and regulations will apply to Terna as other parties. It is open to all and they qualify to participate in the process.”The trust already operates a medical college in Navi Mumbai. “We tried a lot to find more private partners to run (Shatabdi Hospital) medical college, but there is very little interest shown. It is possible that up-front capital expenditure investment is one reason; medical colleges break even only after seven to eight years.”But many, like Dr Shukla, view such PPP models as the death knell to affordable healthcare in the first place. It is not an unreasonable fear. A study published in the Journal of Community System For Health in June mapped out 40 already existing public-private partnership projects between 2017 and 2023 in Pune and Mumbai. The data showed high disparity between PPP facilities rates versus the same rates at other public facilities, like the angioplasty rate in the PPP project was noted to be Rs 67,450 as opposed to the public hospital rate of Rs 3,500.“There is no denying there are issues with the current condition of public hospitals all across, but the solution is to address severe manpower problems,” said Dr Shukla. There have been several protests by locals in Govandi and Lallubhaui Compound, where these hospitals are based, but all have reached a dead end so far. “We are trying to make privatisation in health an issue based on which people will cast their vote in the upcoming elections. But political parties have shown little interest in taking it up,” said Shubham Kothari, with Aspatal Bachao, Nijikaran Hatao Andolan.Meanwhile, BMC has also received a sea of bids for their other hospital-based PPP projects for services like cardiology, blood banks, and radiology services. Some of the bidders have already worked with the BMC in the past; others have even had bad experiences. “This time around, there is no financial transaction with BMC. It is like they will provide the facility to us on rent, and we will provide concessional services to their patients,” said one of the bidders who runs one of the top hospitals in the city.
