Thane: An alert group of commuters helped arrest the driver of a multi-axle truck who fled the scene after fatally knocking down a 21-year-old auto driver late Saturday on the Ghodbunder Highway, officials informed on Sunday.“The incident was reported around midnight after the truck allegedly hit the auto while climbing the Patlipada flyover, brushing it against the flyover wall. The impact of the collision flung the auto driver out of his vehicle on to the road in the path of the truck, and he was run over,” informed inspector Rahul Mhaske. A few passers-by who witnessed the incident, managed to note down the vehicle number and alerted traffic police. The accused driver was booked under relevant sections of the BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act.
