India-US trade deal soon? First tranche near closure! would be 'highly detailed and fully aligned with WTO'

India and the US are finally close to locking in on a trade deal, sealing a pact which will address both the reciprocal and oil tariffs . A government official told PTI on Monday that discussions are going on to close on a package which will include issues such as America’s market access to the country, and 25% reciprocal tariffs and the additional 25% oil duties. “We should get a closure soon”, the official added. The Union commerce & industry minister had earlier said, “We are working for a good trade deal in the interest of India. We want a fair, equitable, and balanced trade deal with the US. If that happens, it could happen any day, tomorrow, next month, or next year. But as a govt, we are preparing for everything.” Additionally, a senior official further revealed that the trade talks were majorly completed and that no further round may be required. “They (the US) have to get back to us. It’s the most comprehensive, WTO-compliant treaty compared to any other nation. We negotiated very cautiously, keeping in mind the sensitivities of key sectors. There is no deadline,” the official said. The trade negotiations between the two nations have stalled since the US announced an additional tariff of 25% on Indian imports to the country, taking the total to a whopping 50%. Washington implemented the additional tariffs alleging India’s continous buying of Russian crude, which it claimed supported, Moscow’s war machine against Ukraine.

NCP Protests Waste Management Failure by Dumping Garbage Outside Thane Municipal HQ | Thane News

THANE: The NCP (Sharad Pawar) on Monday morning dumped a truckload of garbage outside the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) headquarters, protesting the civic body’s failure to clear mounting waste from Kalwa and Mumbra suburbs over the last few days. The protest began around 11 a.m., led by Youth Wing President Abhijit Pawar, with former corporator and opposition leader Shanu Pathan joining the sit-in outside the Commissioner’s office. Pawar accused the administration of collecting taxes but failing to deliver basic services. “Garbage hasn’t been lifted from Kalwa and Mumbra for days. This seems like a deliberate attempt by the ruling parties to stop trash collection and disrupt water supply ahead of elections. If the situation isn’t fixed, we will dump waste in officials’ cabins, outside their homes, and also outside the Commissioner’s bungalow,” he warned.Protesters said contractors have halted garbage collection citing the lack of a dumping ground, leading to trash piling up outside several housing societies. They gathered the accumulated waste and unloaded it at the civic headquarters, sparking commotion. The agitation, coming ahead of the municipal polls, is being viewed as an attempt by the NCP-SP to corner the Shiv Sena, which has ruled the TMC for 25 years and apparently failed to create a dedicated dumping ground. Thane generates about 1,100 MT of garbage daily, yet lacks a long-term disposal plan, activists alleged. They warned that if the issue is not addressed immediately, the next load of trash would be dumped outside the Municipal Commissioner’s residence.Civic officials, meanwhile, said they were addressing the issue and assured that waste was being transported to the Bhiwandi dumping site.

His innings included a stroke of luck when Vaibhav Suryavanshi spilled a simple catch at point.Earlier, India A opted to bat first and got off to a flying start thanks to teenage sensation Suryavanshi’s 28-ball 45 and Naman Dhir’s brisk 35 off 20 balls. But the innings unraveled quickly as medium pacer Shahid Aziz led Pakistan’s charge with 3/24 from three overs.Saad Masood and Sadaqat picked up two wickets each, triggering a collapse that saw India lose eight wickets for just 35 runs in the final 10 overs, having looked set for a total close to 175-180.Suryavanshi, fresh off a record century in the previous match, continued to attack but mistimed a big hit and was caught at long-on by Faiq, who did well to stay inside the ropes off Sufiyan Muqeem’s bowling. PM Shehbaz Sharif and fans erupt as Pakistan completes 3-0 clean sweep with clinical win vs Sri Lanka in third ODI

Pakistan delivered a composed performance to secure a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI in Rawalpindi, sealing a commanding 3-0 series whitewash. The host nation’s victory was set up by a disciplined bowling effort, led by Mohammad Wasim, who helped restrict the visitors to a modest total of 211 runs. Despite a valiant fightback by the Sri Lankan spinners in the middle overs, a crucial half-century from opener Fakhar Zaman and a calm, unbeaten knock from Mohammad Rizwan ensured Pakistan chased the target comfortably. The win came with 5.2 overs to spare, capping a successful series for the home side and bringing Sri Lanka’s stuttering tour to an end.

PAK vs SL, 3rd ODI: Mohammad Wasim and Faisal Akram lead Pakistan’s disciplined bowling effort

Sri Lanka‘s innings started with aggressive intent, appearing to target a score exceeding 300 runs as openers Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara quickly raced to a 50-run partnership inside the first eight overs. Mishara was particularly effective in punishing Shaheen Afridi early on, contributing to the sixth consecutive instance of Pakistan conceding a 50-run opening stand in ODIs.

However, Pakistan swiftly regained control, beginning when Nissanka’s inside edge clattered into the stumps, initiating a typical Sri Lankan collapse. Mohammad Wasim was the chief destroyer, using extra bounce to claim Mishara’s outside edge and later returning to clean up stand-in captain Kusal Mendis with a sharp yorker, finishing with an excellent spell of 3 wickets for 47 runs.

The introduction of left-arm wrist-spinner Faisal Akram, who replaced Abrar Ahmed, proved highly effective; he deployed his variations skillfully, keeping the batters honest throughout the middle overs. Akram delivered a significant double blow, including a splendid delivery that breached Sadeera Samarawickrama‘s defenses just two runs shy of a half-century, and an easy return catch that accounted for Kamindu Mendis. Despite a spirited 32 from debutant Pavan Rathnayake while shepherding the tail, Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for a mere 211, a total that Pakistan deemed never near enough.

PAK vs SL, 3rd ODI: Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan power Pakistan to series whitewash

The chase began with early jeopardy when young wicket-keeper batter Haseebullah Khan was dismissed for a 12-ball duck, resulting from a desperate smear straight to mid-on. However, Fakhar immediately took the initiative, looking to make up for the early loss by scoring quickly. Zaman’s freedom was facilitated by the arrival of Babar Azam, whose presence lifted the crowd’s spirits while the opener focused on finding the gaps regularly throughout the powerplay.

The crucial turning point for Sri Lanka arrived when leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay, playing his first game of the series, managed to pull his side back into the contest. After being hit for a boundary by Zaman, the opener went after him again, only for Kamindu to take a spectacular diving catch in the deep, ending Zaman’s rapid 55-run knock. Vandersay then completed a double strike by dismissing Babar Azam with a deceptive googly that snuck through the gate, momentarily putting pressure on Pakistan.

Despite the losses of Babar and Salman Agha, Mohammad Rizwan and Hussain Talat hunkered down, prioritizing wicket preservation over run rate for the next ten overs, which yielded only 32 runs. The patient approach worked, as Sri Lanka were kept out of the wickets column, and the modest asking rate posed no threat. Rizwan eventually coasted to an unbeaten 61*, while Talat provided solid support, dragging Pakistan comfortably over the finish line with 32 balls remaining, securing the 3-0 clean sweep.

Fans react as Maaz Sadaqat’s all-round performance propels Pakistan A to a dominant win over India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025

Maaz Sadaqat’s all-round brilliance steered Pakistan Shaheens to a dominating eight-wicket win over India A in the sixth match of Group B at the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, played at the Lusail Stadium in Doha on Sunday. The contest showcased high-quality cricket as Pakistan’s young talents stamped their authority, inflicting a comprehensive defeat on the Indian side in this much-anticipated encounter.

Maaz Sadaqat leads the charge as Pakistan A overpower India A

India A, electing to bat first under the lights, struggled to build enduring partnerships against a disciplined Shaheens bowling attack. Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided some early momentum with a brisk 45 from 28 deliveries, peppered with five fours and three sixes, while Naman Dhir’s explosive 35 off 20 balls injected brief life into the middle overs. However, wickets tumbled at critical junctures. Sadaqat, the star of the night, struck pivotal blows, first removing skipper Jitesh Sharma and then accounting for Nehal Wadhera, ending with figures of 2/12 from three overs at a miserly economy of 4.00. Shahid Aziz, with 3/24, complimented Sadaqat as India A finished with a modest 136 in 19 overs.

Sadaqat’s brilliance was not confined to his bowling. Chasing a target of 137, the left-handed opener unfurled a masterclass in controlled aggression. He brought up a rapid fifty off just 31 balls, eventually finishing with a sublime, unbeaten 79 from 47 balls, striking seven boundaries and clearing the ropes four times. His partnership with Mohammad Naeem (14 off 10) set the platform before Yasir Khan (11 off 9) chipped in briefly. Sadaqat’s prowess ensured that the chase was never in doubt, and his composed finish, alongside Mohammad Faiq (16* off 14), led the Shaheens across the line in just 13.2 overs, with a commanding 40 balls to spare.

Pakistan A’s commanding victory over India A

The match flow highlighted Pakistan Shaheens’ strategic superiority. India A faltered after losing Priyansh Arya early, and despite flashes of brilliance from Suryavanshi and Dhir, the middle order collapsed under mounting pressure. Maidens and dot balls built by Pakistan’s spinners and pacers resulted in a scoring rate drop post the ninth over. Shaheens’ disciplined bowling saw wickets fall regularly, especially in death overs, triggering an Indian collapse from 91/2 to 136 all out.

Taking guard for the chase, Shaheens looked intent from ball one. Sadaqat’s fifty—reached off 31 balls—set the tone, and the chase became a formality as India’s bowlers failed to pose any serious threat. The Shaheens’ openers motored along at a run-rate exceeding 10, exploiting loose deliveries and capitalizing on extras. Extras (17 runs), including 13 wides, further dented India’s defense and underscored their bowling indiscipline. Pakistan reached 137/2 in just 13.2 overs, stamping one of the tournament’s most emphatic wins.

Sadaqat, deservedly named Player of the Match for his 79* and two crucial wickets, exemplified Pakistan’s rising talent. The win not only solidified Shaheens’ position atop Group B but also sent a strong message to rivals ahead of the knockout stage at the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025.

Team India’s qualification scenario for WTC 2025-27 final after defeat in Kolkata Test against South Africa

Team India‘s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 final suffered a major jolt after their shocking 30-run defeat to South Africa in the first Test at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chasing a modest 124, the hosts crashed under pressure as Simon Harmer dismantled the middle order with his disciplined spin bowling. The unexpected collapse has not only dented India’s campaign but has also placed them in a tight corner for the remainder of the WTC cycle.

India slide to fourth as Points Percentage takes a hit

The defeat against the defending WTC champions proved costly for Shubman Gill‘s men in the points table. India have now completed eight matches in the cycle, registering 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, which has dragged their Points Percentage (PCT) down to 54.17%.
This slump has pushed them to fourth place, leaving little breathing room as other contenders tighten their grip on top-two positions. With several challenging away tours still lined up, India must treat every match as a virtual knockout to resurrect their campaign.

India’s qualification scenario: What Shubman Gill-led side must do to reach the WTC Final

Target: Reach above 65% PCT

Historically, teams finishing above 65% PCT have safely qualified for the WTC final. For India to breach that mark this cycle, their remaining fixtures must yield a near-flawless run. With 10 Tests still remaining, the equation is tough but not impossible.

Win-at-all-costs approach required

India must maximise points from here on, with minimal room for more defeats. The following scenarios outline their path:

  • Best-Case Route: Win 8 of the remaining 10 Tests

If India secure eight wins, even with two draws, their PCT will comfortably climb above 65%. This would place them in direct contention for a top-two finish.

Also READ: Gautam Gambhir shuts down pitch debate after India’s shock defeat in Kolkata Test against South Africa

  • Balanced Route: Six wins and four draws

A scenario of 6 wins and 4 draws ensures a PCT of around 68.52%, keeping India above the qualification threshold. However, this leaves no scope for defeats.

  • Risky Route: Two losses and one draw

If India end their remaining matches with 2 losses and 1 draw, their PCT drops to 64.81%, leaving them borderline but still in the race depending on other results.

  • Worst-Case: Three losses and one draw

Any combination that results in three defeats drags India below the 60% mark. In such a case, qualification becomes extremely unlikely unless major upsets occur involving other teams.
