2024 BEST bus accident: In driver bail order, Bombay high court calls lack of on-road training shocking | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The Bombay high court has granted bail to the driver of a BEST bus which mowed down nine persons in Kurla in Dec 2024, and termed it as “shocking” that the drivers received no practical training of operating electric buses.Justice R M Joshi on March 30 granted bail to Sanjay More, the driver, on a personal bond of Rs 15,000. More has been in jail since his arrest immediately after the accident. In the order, made available on Thursday, the court said More had experience of driving conventional buses. But “shockingly, no practical training was given to the drivers” to operate electric buses on city roads, it said. The accused, in his plea, had pointed out that as per the medical report, he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. The high court pointed out that the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), a civic-run undertaking, was contractually required to provide at least seven days of training to drivers. However, for the reasons best known to the administration, the training period was curtailed to three days and limited to simulator sessions without any on-road practice, the HC said. “There could absolutely be no justification for not providing adequate training to the drivers before they are called upon to drive buses carrying passengers on busy roads in Mumbai,” it added. The decision to cut short the training and skip field exposure apparently led to this painful incident, Justice Joshi said. The court added that it would be easy to say that More should have refused to drive an electric bus without proper training, but when employment is scarce, a person can not refuse a job. The bench also took note of the fact that he was in custody since his arrest in Dec 2024 and the trial was not likely to be over in the near future.

Yenampalle from Hyderabad and his mechanical engineering friend Shobhon Muluswami from Chennai — slipped nearly 25 feet while climbing a rocky stretch near the summit. Navi Mumbai doctor uses dialysis catheter for heart, drains 1.5-litre fluid buildup | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Forced to improvise in a rural setting with no cardiac cath lab anywhere within 70 km, a Navi Mumbai doctor saved a man from the brink of death using a kidney dialysis catheter to drain fluid suffocating his heart. The 35-year-old TB patient from a tribal community arrived at his Sunday OPD in Roha critical.Manohar Pawar and his family reached Dr Anup Mahajani’s OPD at Jadhav Nursing Home from Nandgaon, 25 km away. “I was about to leave when a group arrived with a man lying in the back of a van,” Dr Mahajani recalled. A 2D echo showed cardiac tamponade, which is severe fluid build-up in the pericardial sac, putting deadly pressure on the heart.“The family was informed the procedure required further travel, but they insisted on immediate treatment due to lack of funds and the realisation that time was running out,” said Dr Mahajani, who is attached to Medicover Hospital in Navi Mumbai. Manohar’s wife, Vinita, said residents in her hamlet usually have no choice but to travel long distances to J J Hospital or MGM in Kamothe for advanced care. The standard procedure, pericardiocentesis, involves inserting a needle and guidewire into the pericardium to drain fluid. However, specialised equipment, which is common in cath labs, was unavailable at local pharmacies.“We called around, but no one had the cardiac kit. It clicked that a dialysis catheter functions similarly. The pharmacist had one in stock by luck, so we decided to move forward,” Dr Mahajani said. This was risky. While a cardiac catheter is thin and flexible, a dialysis catheter is thicker and stiffer. Furthermore, Dr Mahajani lacked fluoroscopy, which provides continuous X-ray imaging during such procedures. Working in a sonography room with adapted infection control, Dr Mahajani performed the procedure “blind”, relying solely on a 2D echo in one hand to guide the needle with the other. “Once the needle was inside, I had to confirm placement via echo while simultaneously operating,” he said. As the fluid drained, the pressure eased. Manohar’s blood pressure stabilised at 100/70 mm Hg, his breathing improved, and he regained consciousness. There was more fluid to drain, but to avoid further risk, just 1.5 litres was drained. He was moved to JJ Hospital to drain the rest. “He is getting better,” his family confirmed. Dr Ajay Mahajan, head, cardiac department, KEM Hospital, said, “It is a very easy procedure, but can be a challenge in resource-scarce setups. Anything can go wrong when it comes to the heart if using a dialysis catheter. The doctor had no choice but to save a life.”

Dhurandhar 2: ‘My scenes were cut, I was sad but.: ‘Dhurandhar- The Revenge’ actor Vikramm Bhambri reveals the moment that changed everything | Hindi Movie News

From IT to the silver screen, Vikramm Bhambri’s foray into cinema with ‘Dhurandhar’ unfolds a tale of self-discovery that began with a moment of doubt, only to be uplifted by an unexpected compliment from a delivery guy. He fondly reminisces about the camaraderie shared with co-stars Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, noting their genuine kindness and dedication to the craft.

In an industry where visibility often defines success, Vikramm Bhambri’s journey is a quiet yet powerful reminder that recognition can come in the most unexpected ways. An IT professional who balanced boardrooms with film sets, Vikramm Bhambri stepped into the world of cinema with Aditya Dhar‘s ‘Dhurandhar’ starring the energetic Ranveer Singh in the leading role as Hamza Ali Mazari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi, portraying Shakeel. While his screen time may have been limited, his experience was anything but small, marked by moments of self-doubt, silent victories, and an unexpected encounter that changed everything. In a candid conversation with ETimes, Vikramm shared his experience of handling success, his first day of shoot experience, his rapport with Ranveer Singh, and much more.Dhurandhar 2 Movie ReviewHow is life treating you post the success of ‘Dhurandhar’?Post the success of ‘Dhurandhar,’ it’s amazing and still sinking in. At the time of the audition, they told me that this is Aditya Dhar sir’s project. Obviously, they didn’t tell me the name. They just said it’s a very big cast and that they are shortlisting me for a character. So, I gave the audition. After that, because I have a bit of an IT brain, I started researching. I found out that Aditya Dhar sir is making a massive project with a star cast like Sanjay Dutt, Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal… all these names. No one from the casting team gave me any information, but when I figured it out, I was very happy from within. Still, I kept that happiness to myself and thought, “You have given the audition; now let the result come.” Then in September-October, the result came that I had passed with flying colors. That moment was such that I was in the office, and even though people say you shout with happiness, I couldn’t do that. I had to keep it inside. I called my parents and shared my happiness with them. It was a very special feeling.

Dhurandhar 2 Shocker! Vicky Kaushal Praises Ranveer Singh, Crew, and Director Aditya Dhar

When did you realize that your role as Shakeel, though small, was impactful? When we were shortlisted, they told us that my character’s name is Shakeel Commando. At that time, I felt it sounded like a terrorist-type name. But then I told myself, at least I have a name, and I am not an extra. In theater, we learn that if your character has a name, it means you have an important role. Later, when we started working, we were told we are gang members; we are with Ranveer. That felt really good. But when the film released, I didn’t see as much presence and visibility as we had shot. When I watched Part 1 with my parents, I felt very sad. Every actor wants visibility, so I felt unsettled for a couple of days as many of my scenes, which we shot, were chopped off, maybe due to some unavoidable reasons. But that was very disappointing for me. My parents kept telling me to be thankful, but the heart doesn’t always listen. Then something happened; on the second day, a delivery person came and said, “Sir, I saw you yesterday… you are in ‘Dhurandhar,’ right?”That moment changed everything. I became the happiest person. After that, I didn’t think about my scenes being cut. I was just happy to be associated with such a big project. There are 100 things to be grateful for, and I am enjoying the success. How was your experience working with Ranveer Singh and such a big star cast?Oh, the experience was beautiful, very, very beautiful. On Day 1, I was standing in front of stalwarts like Akshay sir and Ranveer bhai, and I was speechless. I didn’t even know how to say hello. For the initial couple of days, I didn’t interact. I had scenes with Akshaye sir, but I couldn’t say even hi! To him, he was always quiet and in himself on the sets. But then once after finishing the scenes, Akshaye bhai smiled at me; that was when I shook hands with him. After that, we became very friendly. He is Punjabi, and I am Punjabi, so we spoke in Punjabi and spoke about Amritsar and many other topics. He is a very beautiful person. What should I say about Ranveer Singh? His aura is so strong that you feel scared, and it makes you think, Will I be able to match his energy? But one incident changed everything. A photographer was clicking BTS pictures of him, and he called me, “Vikramm, sir, come click pictures with me.” He addressed me as “sir”! That broke all hesitation. After that, I started calling him Ranveer bhai. He has been a gem of a person. On my birthday, he sent a bouquet to my home with a beautiful note. I am deeply grateful for that. He even replied to me on Instagram once, though I am an ordinary person, and he took that time for me. How can I not love him?

Vikramm Bhambri note

Did you receive any advice from your co-stars?I don’t think there was direct advice. Everyone was at such a level that their energy matched. But appreciation was definitely there. I remember one scene in Part 2, where I had to give a dialogue cue in a noisy foundry. I spoke loudly, and after the cut, Ranveer bhai came to me and said, “Your voice is very good.” That meant a lot. He is very appreciative and a true gentleman, very meticulous in his work. The film is quite intense. What was the atmosphere like on set?No one worked under pressure. There were a few intense moments; for example, I heard about a scene involving the 26/11 recordings, which were around 45–46 minutes long. That must have been emotionally very heavy for those involved, I am sure. But otherwise, I didn’t feel an intense atmosphere. Even when I wasn’t shooting, I used to go to the set because that is my happy place.Of course, during takes, everyone was in sync with the tone of the film. It’s not a comedy, so actors performed in a serious, character-driven zone. What about ‘Dhurandhar 3’? Would you like to explore more of Shakeel?Whatever Aditya Sir would want me to explore, it’s his baby; he knows best. But as per the news, he is not keen on making Part 3. Even if there are loose ends, sometimes stories are left open for the audience to decide. I believe he has kept it that way. Rest, who knows? You balanced a corporate job and acting. How was that journey? It has been a very beautiful journey of one and a half years. I am still working in the corporate industry, so managing both is a bit tedious.I used to carry my office laptop to shoot locations and attend calls and meetings whenever I had time. Interestingly, very few people on set knew about my corporate job, and no one in my office knew about my Bollywood project. Now, after the film, my seniors feel proud. They tell people that one of their employees worked in ‘Dhurandhar.‘ For me, that is like an Oscar or any other award moment to get that kind of respect.

Court rejects Anita Advani’s plea for marital recognition with Rajesh Khanna after Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle Khanna, Akshay Kumar oppose to it |

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday rejected an appeal filed by actor Anita Advani, who had sought legal recognition of her relationship with late superstar Rajesh Khanna as a marriage. For those not in the know, Rajesh Khanna was married to Dimple Kapadia in 1973 but the duo separated in the mid 1980s. Though Kapadia moved out of his bungalow Aashirwad with her daughters Twinkle and Rinke Khanna, she was never officially divorced to Khanna. Meanwhile, for many years, Anita maintained that she was in a live-in relationship with the superstar until his death in 2012. Calling herself his “surrogate wife,” she said she looked after his household, including the famous Aashirwad bungalow, and cared for him during his ill health. She also shared that she observed rituals like Karva Chauth for him. Thus, Advani had filed a plea seeking marital recognition for her relationship with the late actor, which the court rejected on Wednesday. The order was passed by Justice Sharmila Deshmukh, who dismissed Advani’s plea challenging a lower court’s decision. Earlier, in 2017, the Dindoshi Civil Court had thrown out Advani’s civil suit on technical grounds. She subsequently approached the High Court in appeal. After considering submissions from Advani’s counsel and legal representatives appearing for Dimple Kapadia, Akshay Kumar, and Twinkle Khanna, the High Court upheld the earlier ruling and dismissed the appeal.

When Dimple Kapadia emotionally blackmailed Rajesh Khanna to take her in ‘Jai Shiv Shankar’ post their separation

“First appeal is dismissed,” the court stated. The dispute between Advani and Kapadia has led to several legal battles since 2012, largely stemming from Advani’s assertion that she shared a relationship with Rajesh Khanna.Advani had also filed a criminal complaint before a Bandra Magistrate court, accusing Kapadia, Akshay Kumar, and Twinkle Khanna of domestic violence. She alleged that she was forced out of Khanna’s bungalow, Aashirwad, after his death. In 2015, however, a coordinate bench of the Bombay High Court quashed those domestic violence proceedings against Kapadia, Twinkle Khanna, and Akshay Kumar. The court had then ruled that Advani’s association with Rajesh Khanna did not amount to a relationship “in the nature of marriage” under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. A few months ago, Anita had said in an interview that she was secretly married to Khanna. In an interview with ‘Meri Saheli’, she had expressed, “We got married privately, but in the film industry, no one talks about such things openly. Everyone says ‘we’re friends’ or ‘we’re in a relationship’ or something else. But it was already reported in the media that I was with him, so neither of us felt the need to go and publicly announce that we were married. We never felt that need.” She went on to recount how the private ceremony took place: “We had a small temple in our home. I had a mangal sutra made, gold with black beads. He made me wear it. Then he applied sindoor and said, ‘From today, you are my responsibility.’ That’s how our wedding happened one night, just like that.”

Aryan Khan’s debut series The Ba***ds of Bollywood has sparked a strong conversation online ever since its release. While the Netflix show has found its fans, it has also drawn criticism for its dark portrayal of the Hindi film industry. One of the sharpest reactions has come from Viveck Vaswani, who shares a long-standing association with Shah Rukh Khan dating back to his early days in Mumbai. In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Vaswani once again didn’t mince words as he questioned the narrative presented in the series.“Shah Rukh was treated like a king in my house, my mother, my father, and I, we all looked after him. We used to eat dinner together, watch films together, and often go on sets together,” he said.Recalling those years, he added, “Aziz Mirza gave him a place to stay, and Aziz’s wife Nirmala Mirza was like his mother, just as my mother was. Saeed Mirza, Renu Saluja, and everyone associated with Circus as well as Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar, and Aditya Chopra’s father Yash Chopra, all of them, without exception, treated him like a king.”He then questioned the show’s tone, stating, “He came into the industry with a golden spoon. So why does he think it’s a bad industry?”

‘I have never seen anything like this’

Vaswani also objected to a particular scene that, according to him, paints an extreme picture.“You are showing a woman being kicked to the ground by a director. I have never seen anything like this in the industry. I have not encountered such evil people here,” he said.Dismissing the idea of a largely toxic ecosystem, he continued, “Whatever dirt or supposed ‘evil side’ of Bollywood people talk about, I have never seen it. Even Shah Rukh, who lived with me, never saw it.”

‘Let there be good people too’

While conceding that the show might be drawing from second-hand accounts, Vaswani stressed the need for balance.“Why paint everyone black? There are decent people in the industry,” he said.“If you are making something called The Ba***ds of Bollywood and want to show the darker side, that’s fair, but let there be a Yash Chopra, who has been decent. Let there be a Yash Johar, or let there be a Viveck Vaswani who has always helped people. Let there be good people too,” he concluded.
