‘He always makes me feel like I’m the best: Romario on his bond with Jitesh Sharma | Cricket News

'He always makes me feel like I'm the best: Romario on his bond with Jitesh Sharma

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finishers Jitesh Sharma and Romario Shepherd opened up about their on-field chemistry, highlighting how their contrasting styles make them a dangerous pair for bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As RCB gear up for their second match against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, the duo reflected on what makes their partnership effective.Jitesh underlined the tactical advantage of their partnership, noting how their differing strengths complicate field placements for the opposition.

Mike Hussey admits CSK were outplayed after batting collapse

“I feel when we play together, the bowler might be confused. When I can use all the angles, he can hit the ball with power. So it’s confusing for the bowler to place the field,” he said in a video released by RCB on X.Shepherd, meanwhile, emphasised the confidence he derives from batting alongside Jitesh, crediting him for creating a positive environment in the middle. “Whenever I’m batting with him, I feel confident because he always makes me feel like I’m the best. Also, he makes me feel like I can hit every ball for six. So that’s something that, you know, he gives me the confidence to go there and play my shots,” he said.Despite his own aggressive approach, Jitesh admitted that matching Shepherd’s power is no easy task. “I can’t gain the power that I want. I think if I try to gain that power, I might not be a cricketer; I might be a bodybuilder or something else. But I think it’s very difficult to get his power,” he added.Shepherd also praised Jitesh’s composure and versatility, particularly in pressure situations, which helps him remain calm at the other end.“Whenever you’re batting with someone like Jitesh, what Jitesh does well in the end, you know, is hold his composure, stay calm, and you know, you have all the shots. So it’s easy for him to actually go to one of his funky shots, you know, one of the scoops or something like that. In T20 cricket, that’s all you want,” he said.“Just get a ball out of his game plan. And you know, Jitesh does that very well. I don’t know, I have a lot of fun batting with him,” Shepherd added. The duo played a crucial role in RCB’s title-winning campaign last season. Jitesh scored 261 runs in 15 matches, while Shepherd made a strong impact with 151 runs in just eight games, including a blistering 14-ball fifty against CSK.With their chemistry and complementary styles, Jitesh and Shepherd will once again be key to RCB’s finishing strength this season.

Any misadventure from Pak to invite ‘unprecedented’ action, says Rajnath Singh

NEW DELHI: Just a day after Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi disclosed that India was on the verge of striking Pakistan from sea during Op Sindoor, defence minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said any “misadventure” from India’s neighbour in the prevailing situation would invite “unprecedented and decisive” action.Rajnath, speaking at a Sainik Samman Sammelan in Kerala, said that following the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, India had destroyed terrorist hideouts and infrastructure in Pakistan through Op Sindoor and brought the hostile neighbour to its knees in 22 minutes. “I would like to tell you the operation is not over yet. If such dirty actions are repeated by Pakistan, our armed forces will give a befitting reply which they will never forget. The minister said that under PM Modi, national security has been strengthened, and the government’s attitude and mode of action have changed. “Be it the surgical strikes after the Uri terror attack, air strikes in response to the killing of Indian security personnel in Pulwama, or Operation Sindoor, we have struck a strong blow to terrorism,” he said.On Wednesday, Admiral Tripathi, during a naval investiture ceremony in Mumbai, said, “Op Sindoor demonstrated exemplary readiness and resolve of the Indian Navy, as our units undertook swift deployment and maintained a highly aggressive posture throughout the period. It is not a hidden fact anymore that we were just minutes away from striking Pakistan from sea when they requested a stoppage of kinetic actions.”

Opposition claims timing of changes in women’s quota bill meant to derive political mileage, government rejects charge | India News

Opposition claims timing of changes in women’s quota bill meant to derive political mileage, government rejects charge

NEW DELHI: Congress and some opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha opposed the government’s proposal to bring amendments to the women’s reservation law in the next sitting of Parliament from April 16, alleging that the move was aimed at drawing political mileage in the upcoming assembly elections. Leader of the House J P Nadda, however, rejected the criticism, saying that the govt has a right to decide on the timing when a legislation has to be brought in.The issue led to a war of words between the treasury and opposition benches soon after the Question Hour on Thursday. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said, “When on September 23, 2023, the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was passed in this House, the LoP and opposition members had urged the government to implement it from the 2024 Lok Sabha election. At that time, the government said we can’t do it; we have to do the Census; we have to do delimitation.…for 30 months they slept, and suddenly they discovered we don’t need the census; we don’t need delimitation because we have a challenge in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu. This is all politics…”Earlier, LoP Mallikarjun Kharge said that they all support the reservation of women, but the government should not “play games on when and how to bring the Bill”, Rijiju replied, saying that the government is bound to fulfil its promise given to the women of the country. “What is important is that we have a bound duty, a commitment which the Parliament of India has given to the women of this nation. This has nothing to do with specific state elections. We must take it forward because we have certain limitations when we look at the time scale…Let us not get into politics over this important issue,” the minister said.

WATCH: Sachin Tendulkar dons national colours again to celebrate 15th anniversary of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph

The sight of Sachin Tendulkar in the iconic sky-blue jersey is enough to send a shiver down the spine of any cricket enthusiast. Today, that nostalgia reached a fever pitch as the ‘Master Blaster’ took to social media to celebrate a landmark anniversary that redefined Indian sports. On the 15th anniversary of India‘s historic 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup triumph, Tendulkar donned the national colors once more, bridging the gap between a glorious past and a grateful present.

For millions of fans, the video was more than just a social media post; it was a journey back to the humid night of April 2 at the Wankhede Stadium. Tendulkar’s message, “The first ball always makes your heart race… and that night, it never stopped,” perfectly encapsulated the pulse of a nation that held its breath for 28 years.

Sachin Tendulkar revisits iconic day in Indian cricket wearing national colours

In a viral video that has since taken the internet by storm, Tendulkar reflected on the emotional weight of the 2011 campaign. Seeing the legendary batter back in the India jersey served as a poignant reminder of the unity that the 2011 squad embodied. Tendulkar noted that while they started as a “bunch of young cricketers,” they were ultimately “united by one dream.”

The 2011 final against Sri Lanka remains one of the most high-pressure matches in sporting history. Chasing a formidable target of 275, India faced early jitters after losing Sehwag and Tendulkar himself within the first few overs. However, the foundation laid by Gautam Gambhir’s gritty 97 and the legendary finishing act by MS Dhoni (91) turned the tide.

Tendulkar’s presence in the jersey today serves as a tribute not just to the victory, but to the collective journey of the team and the fans. As he rightly stated, the victory belonged to everyone who shared the dream, culminating in that unforgettable six from Dhoni that sent a billion people into a frenzy of joy.

While the final is often remembered for the Dhoni-Gambhir partnership, the road to the Wankhede was paved by the sheer brilliance of Tendulkar. In his sixth and final World Cup appearance, the Master Blaster played with the hunger of a debutant and the wisdom of a sage. He finished the tournament as India’s highest run-scorer and the second-highest overall, trailing only Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Statistical brilliance of Tendulkar in the 2011 World Cup:

Matches Innings Total Runs High Score Average 100s 50s
9 9 482 120 53.55 2 2

Tendulkar’s centuries against England and South Africa were masterclasses in ODI batting, but perhaps his most vital contribution was the gritty 85 against Pakistan in the high-stakes semi-final at Mohali. His consistency allowed the middle order to flourish, and his 482 runs at a strike rate of 91.98 ensured India always had the momentum.

Lifting the trophy on his home ground was the crowning achievement of a 24-year career. Today, seeing him back in that jersey reminds us why he remains the heartbeat of Indian cricket—a legend who didn’t just play the game, but lived the dream of a whole nation.
