'He always makes me feel like I'm the best: Romario on his bond with Jitesh Sharma

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finishers Jitesh Sharma and Romario Shepherd opened up about their on-field chemistry, highlighting how their contrasting styles make them a dangerous pair for bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As RCB gear up for their second match against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, the duo reflected on what makes their partnership effective.Jitesh underlined the tactical advantage of their partnership, noting how their differing strengths complicate field placements for the opposition.

Mike Hussey admits CSK were outplayed after batting collapse

“I feel when we play together, the bowler might be confused. When I can use all the angles, he can hit the ball with power. So it’s confusing for the bowler to place the field,” he said in a video released by RCB on X.Shepherd, meanwhile, emphasised the confidence he derives from batting alongside Jitesh, crediting him for creating a positive environment in the middle. “Whenever I’m batting with him, I feel confident because he always makes me feel like I’m the best. Also, he makes me feel like I can hit every ball for six. So that’s something that, you know, he gives me the confidence to go there and play my shots,” he said.Despite his own aggressive approach, Jitesh admitted that matching Shepherd’s power is no easy task. “I can’t gain the power that I want. I think if I try to gain that power, I might not be a cricketer; I might be a bodybuilder or something else. But I think it’s very difficult to get his power,” he added.Shepherd also praised Jitesh’s composure and versatility, particularly in pressure situations, which helps him remain calm at the other end.“Whenever you’re batting with someone like Jitesh, what Jitesh does well in the end, you know, is hold his composure, stay calm, and you know, you have all the shots. So it’s easy for him to actually go to one of his funky shots, you know, one of the scoops or something like that. In T20 cricket, that’s all you want,” he said.“Just get a ball out of his game plan. And you know, Jitesh does that very well. I don’t know, I have a lot of fun batting with him,” Shepherd added. The duo played a crucial role in RCB’s title-winning campaign last season. Jitesh scored 261 runs in 15 matches, while Shepherd made a strong impact with 151 runs in just eight games, including a blistering 14-ball fifty against CSK.With their chemistry and complementary styles, Jitesh and Shepherd will once again be key to RCB’s finishing strength this season.

Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan broke Virat Kohli‘s T20 record after producing a sensational unbeaten century to lead Multan Sultans to a thrilling six-wicket victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen in a high-scoring Pakistan Super League (PSL) clash in Lahore on Wednesday. Chasing a daunting target of 226, Multan Sultans pulled off the fifth-highest successful chase in PSL history, reaching the total with eight balls to spare. Farhan starred with an unbeaten 106 off just 57 balls, anchoring the innings from start to finish.Farhan, Smith set the tone in Powerplay blitzFarhan laid the foundation with a dominant 104-run opening stand alongside Steven Smith, who smashed a quickfire 46 off 20 balls. After a quiet start, the duo took control during the Powerplay, propelling the Sultans to 83 runs in the first six overs. Farhan brought up his half-century in just 25 balls and maintained the tempo even as wickets fell at the other end. Hyderabad Kingsmen managed a brief comeback through Hassan Khan and Saim Ayub, but Shan Masood’s brisk 29 off 16 ensured the chase stayed on track.

'For the IPL to move from 74 to 94 matches, we need a bigger window': IPL chairman Arun Dhumal
Has IPL Chairman hinted at IPL expansion? (Screengrab)

Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Singh Dhumal has opened up on the possibility of expanding the tournament, stating that while demand for more matches exists, the biggest challenge remains the packed international cricket calendar. In a conversation with the Financial Times, Dhumal explained that the IPL’s growth, from the current 74 matches to a potential 84 or even 94-game season, depends largely on finding additional space in the global schedule.Dhumal highlighted that the current Future Tours Programme (FTP), which governs international fixtures, leaves little room for expansion.

“For the IPL to move from 74 to 94 matches, we really need a bigger window,” he said.At present, the tournament operates in a limited window between mid-March and the end of May. Extending beyond that period is not feasible due to the onset of the monsoon in parts of India. He also pointed out that increasing the number of matches within the existing window would lead to more double-headers, something broadcasters are not in favour of.“If we try to increase matches in the current window, we will end up having more double-headers. That does not work well for broadcasters. We have to consider their interests as well,” he added.Shift from bilateral cricket could open doorsDhumal suggested that changing trends in global cricket could eventually pave the way for IPL expansion. He noted a declining interest in bilateral series, with several cricket boards launching their own franchise leagues.“There is definitely less interest in some bilateral games. That is why countries are coming up with their own leagues,” he said, citing tournaments such as The Hundred, Big Bash League, ILT20, SA20, and the Caribbean Premier League.According to Dhumal, if this trend continues, cricket boards may opt for fewer bilateral series or ones that are more commercially viable, creating space for tournaments like the IPL to grow.“If this is the trend, then every country will want fewer bilaterals… and then there is scope to enlarge the IPL window,” he explained.Balancing growth and global calendarDespite the IPL’s immense popularity and financial strength, Dhumal stressed the importance of collaboration with other cricket boards.“We are hoping for more discussions with all the countries and colleagues. If that works out, it should work out for everyone,” he said.IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal looks to extend the IPL schedule from 72 to 94 after the cycle of 2027,” It makes sense, and it is already locked until 2027. But when they plan post-2027, we will have discussions. The IPL is not only adding value to India and Indian players; it is adding value to world cricket at large. So all these players would want more.Hopefully, when we decide on the next cycle, we will be able to carve out a bigger window so we can extend it beyond 74,” Arun said.

NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad return to winning ways with a dominant 65-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, thanks largely to Heinrich Klaasen’s calm and experienced knock. While Blessing Muzarabani shines with four wickets for KKR, Klaasen’s steady 52 helps SRH post a strong 226/8 after being put in to bat. In reply, KKR never really get going and are bowled out for 161 in just 16 overs, slipping to another defeat.

Rohit Sharma unleashed: MI coach explains tactical calls after explosive knock

SRH build big total despite stumbles

SRH get off to a flying start as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put together a rapid 82-run opening stand, attacking from the outset. Just when it looks like a huge total is on the cards, KKR fight back through Muzarabani, who removes key batters and briefly slows things down. At one stage, SRH lose wickets quickly and the innings looks shaky. That’s when Klaasen steps in and steadies things. He plays smart cricket, rotating strike and keeping the scoreboard ticking even when boundaries dry up. Alongside Nitish Kumar Reddy, he builds a crucial partnership that keeps SRH on track for a big total. The duo adds important runs in the middle overs, ensuring the early momentum doesn’t go to waste and helping SRH reach a competitive score.

KKR collapse under pressure

Chasing 227, KKR start brightly with Finn Allen’s quick 28, but things fall apart soon after his dismissal. There is visible lack of coordination as run-outs and poor shot selection hurt them badly. Cameron Green is involved in a mix-up and gets run out cheaply, and even Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who plays a fine knock of 52, is run out after another misunderstanding. The innings never recovers as wickets keep falling regularly. Rinku Singh tries to fight back with a 35, but once he departs, the chase is effectively over. SRH bowlers, led by Jaydev Unadkat, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Eshan Malinga, keep things tight and finish the job comfortably, sealing a comprehensive win.

Jaydev Unadkat conceded a couple of boundaries but struck back by dismissing Rahane, while a mix-up in the middle resulted in Cameron Green’s bizarre run-out, adding to the early drama.Bizarre run-out at the end of PowerplayIt was a classic case of why you never run off a misfield. Raghuvanshi drove it straight back to Malinga, who got a boot to it and half-stopped the ball. Both batters hesitated and ended up stranded mid-pitch. Malinga quickly recovered, picked up the ball, and calmly broke the stumps at the bowler’s end.Initially, it appeared Raghuvanshi had crossed, and he even began walking back, visibly frustrated. However, replays confirmed both batters were at the same end, leaving Green short of his ground. Cameron Green departed for 2 off 2 in a bizarre run-out.

KKR wins toss, opt to field (Image: IPL)

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the toss and opted to bowl first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 6th match of IPL 2026. While left-arm wrist spinner Shivang Kumar came in for SRH, KKR chose to stick with the same playing XI, banking on continuity after a positive showing in their previous outing. Both the teams lost their opening game.Rahane backs bowling unit, highlights conditions”There is always room for improvement but there were a lot of positives from the last game – batting unit wise we batted really well. As I said in the post-match presentation, bowling wise there was a bit of inexperience but they will do really well. We generally don’t see this much of grass, last couple of days rain around and that’s the reason we are bowling first. Generally there is dew but this wicket should remain good for 40 overs, not sure with the dew as there’s a breeze going around, but generally at 7:30-8 the dew comes in. He (Cam Green) is doing all the things which he needs to do, physio and our trainer are looking after him. You will see him bowling very soon. Going with the same team,” Rahane said after winning toss. SRH focus on execution after being put in to bat”I would have elected to bowl first. But getting to bat first here at Eden it comes to the same point – be sure how the wicket is going to play and watch the ball and play your best game. We need to come up with the best game show for us. It all depends on the mindset, if you feel fresh before the game, you just go out and do the basics right. Only one point I would say is execution, when you plan something and execute it in a good manner then you will be on the winning side, we need to be calm even if we are not in a very good situation and that will make the difference. We will look to keep it simple in this game. (When will Cummins be available?) I don’t know yet, but he should be ready as soon as possible, he makes a big difference, with the bat as well, keeping him in the team is such a plus point. We have one change – Shivang comes in, keeping the wicket-taking options open, he has bowled well in the practice sessions and we are giving him the chance, and I think he is going to do well,” Ishan Kishan during toss.

NEW DELHI: World No. 4 Iga Swiatek has announced a coaching change, bringing in Francisco Roig, who previously worked with Rafael Nadal. The 24-year-old shared the update on Instagram, writing, “Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter.”The former World No. 1 publicly acknowledged the support from legendary Rafael Nadal.“You know, Rafa is my idol and basically the only person I watched play tennis as a child. He was also kind enough to talk to me several times during his career and give me tips. He’s the person I can turn to if I need help or have a problem. Having someone so experienced – the best, the GOAT, in fact – is obviously a fantastic opportunity, and I’ll take advantage of it if I can,” Swiatek told Sport.pl.

I don’t want to go into details. It’s definitely not something someone like me decides to do after one failure. I wouldn’t make such a decision lightly,” she said. The move comes shortly after Swiatek parted ways with her former coach Wim Fissette following a disappointing second-round exit at the Miami Open. It marked her earliest tournament exit in nearly three years, highlighting a dip in form.Swiatek has had an inconsistent run this season, falling short in key tournaments. She exited in the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, Qatar Open, and Indian Wells, raising concerns about her performance levels. The coaching switch appears to be a response to these struggles, as the former world No. 1 looks to regain momentum and confidence ahead of the upcoming tournaments.Roig, 58, brings significant experience, having spent years working closely with Nadal’s team alongside Toni Nadal and Carlos Moya. He has also coached top players like Emma Raducanu, Matteo Berrettini, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. With Roig joining her team, Swiatek will hope his experience can help her rediscover her best form and compete strongly in the coming months.

'Are we Mossad agents in Iran?': World No. 2 USA GM Hikaru Nakamura blasts FIDE
USA GM Hikaru Nakamura blasts FIDE

NEW DELHI: World No. 2 American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura has hit out at FIDE, the world chess governing body, over what he sees as excessive anti-cheating measures at the 2026 Candidates Tournament in Cyprus. Opening his fourth Candidates with a loss to fellow American Fabiano Caruana, Nakamura took to his YouTube channel with Norwegian GM Jon Ludvig Hammer and Luxembourg’s WIM Fiona Steil-Antoni to vent his frustration.“My general view about the whole topic of delay, cheating over-the-board, and all this stuff is that I frankly think it’s nonsense,” Nakamura said. “Considering the amount of machines they have to scan the players in the room, it’s all complete nonsense. I really do.”

The chess star criticised the security measures, jokingly questioning the level of scrutiny. “It’s not that I have any problems with it. I just think that the fears some players have expressed are completely overblown. I’m just going to be honest… They scan us before the game. They scan us after the game. They have the metal detector. They have a variety of other separate scanners. I mean, who are we? Are we like Mossad agents inside Iran or something? Come on, we’re chess players! Let’s be real,” he said. When asked if he had raised his concerns with FIDE, Nakamura admitted he hadn’t. “FIDE? No, of course, I haven’t voiced this opinion to FIDE. I don’t really see a reason to. When I look at FIDE or the things being done, I really have no point in arguing with them or saying anything,” he remarked.“My general view is that it’s all overblown. At a smaller open tournament where you don’t have all these scanners and equipment, I can understand the concerns. But at an event like this, where everybody is in a room, there are arbiters watching everyone, and cameras on everyone… I mean, without inside help, nothing can happen. I just think it’s all nonsense.”ALSO READ: ‘We saw tanks on the road’: How playing chess amid regional conflict feelsNakamura has started the tournament with 1.5 points from four rounds, sharing results with Anish Giri, Andrey Esipenko, and Wei Yi after his opening defeat.
