IND vs SA [WATCH]: Virat Kohli’s 52nd ODI century celebrations interrupted after a fan slips past security and bows at his feet in Ranchi

Virat Kohli produced a vintage masterclass in the 1st ODI of three-game series against South Africa in Ranchi, lighting up the stadium with a majestic century that showcased touch, timing, and temperament. Just as he completed his 52nd ODI hundred, the electrifying atmosphere turned chaotic as an unexpected interruption unfolded at the centre. A fan breached security and sprinted across the ground, reaching Kohli in the middle of his celebration. The incident momentarily halted the proceedings, drawing stunned reactions from the crowd and players alike. Kohli, who had just kissed his wedding ring to mark the milestone, found his celebration abruptly paused. It became one of the most viral moments of the match, blending emotion, security lapse, and star aura all in one frame.

IND vs SA: Virat Kohli’s brilliant Ranchi hundred sparks drama as pitch invader disrupts 52nd ODI ton celebration

The moment Kohli steered Marco Jansen to third man to reach his 52nd ODI century, Ranchi erupted, but a sudden pitch invasion stole the spotlight as a young supporter sprinted the length of the ground before dropping at Kohli’s feet, creating an unexpected and dramatic pause in the celebration.

Kohli had just leapt in joy and taken out his ring pendant when the intruder reached him, forcing security to intervene quickly as officials chased him across the turf, highlighting both the intensity of devotion and the lapses in crowd control; the fan’s emotional gesture startled Kohli but did not derail his calm demeanour as he stepped back, allowing guards to escort the individual away. Kohli resumed his celebration, though with a more measured expression, acknowledging the crowd while ensuring no further disturbance occurred; the interruption overshadowed the broadcasters’ initial focus on his numbers, drawing the world’s attention to the combination of passion and chaos that often surrounds cricket’s biggest icons.

Kohli’s magnificent century and India’s dominance against South Africa in Ranchi

Kohli’s hundred itself was a masterpiece crafted with supreme control as he arrived early after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal, settled through crisp boundaries, and gradually unleashed his full range, starting with a third-man four before unfurling straight drives, cover drives, and lofted sixes that reflected a batter reconnecting with his peak rhythm; although a touch rusty early on, he quickly analysed the pitch’s pace and bounce, adjusting with precision, taking on pace and spin alike with confident footwork.

He reached his fifty off 48 balls with a commanding six off Corbin Bosch and continued shepherding the innings even as Rohit Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Washington Sundar departed around him; his strike rotation slowed in the 90s as he chased the milestone, but the moment he reached triple figures off 102 deliveries, he began accelerating again with a flurry of boundaries and towering hits; his partnership of 136 with Rohit set the platform for India’s dominance, featuring classical and attacking strokes blended seamlessly.

Virat hammered 11 fours and seven sixes through the course of his knock, showcasing both touch and power, including a towering straight six off Burger and another sensational hit off Baartman; Ranchi proved special once again as he notched his third century at the venue, adding another chapter to his love affair with the ground; the innings also reaffirmed his pursuit of a place in the 2027 World Cup squad, answering critics who doubted his single-format focus; eventually, a clever slower ball from Nandre Burger ended his stay on 135 off 120, but the crowd stood as one in admiration as he walked off after delivering one of his finest modern-day ODI masterpieces.

IND vs SA: Virat Kohli says no, Rohit Sharma walks: DRS moment steals spotlight during IND vs SA 1st ODI | Cricket News

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma (screengrabs)

Former India skipper Rohit Sharma’s fluent half-century came to an abrupt end on Sunday after a brief mid-pitch consultation with Virat Kohli led to the opener deciding against reviewing an LBW decision, a call that left fans buzzing across social media during the first ODI against South Africa. The moment unfolded in the 22nd over of the Indian innings.

Inside India nets in Ranchi: How Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma prepared for first ODI vs South Africa

Marco Jansen went short of a length, the ball stayed lower than expected and struck Rohit around the back thigh as he swivelled into a pull shot. The Proteas went up immediately, the umpire raised the finger, and Rohit paused, turning to non-striker Kohli for a quick word. After a few seconds of discussion, the two agreed there was no need for DRS. Rohit began the walk back, ending what had been a composed, commanding outing. Replays later suggested the delivery would have clipped the top of the stumps at worst, validating the decision to move on.Rohit departed for 57 off 50 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes, and in the process rewriting ODI history. Earlier in his innings, the 38-year-old had sent two clean hits sailing over deep midwicket off spinner Prenelan Subrayen to draw level with Shahid Afridi’s tally of 351 sixes, the previous record for most in One-Day Internationals. Moments later, a towering pull off Jansen over deep square leg carried him past the former Pakistan star. With 352 ODI sixes, Rohit is now the most prolific six-hitter the format has ever seen, achieving the feat in just 270 innings, far quicker than Afridi’s 398-match career. He also brought up his 60th ODI half-century before his exit, extending a legacy built since his debut in 2007.

Just 2% of funds lost to sextortion and cyberbullying in Maharashtra in 2022-25 recovered | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Maharashtra recorded 379 sextortion cases between Jan 2022 and Aug 2025, including 193 in Mumbai, which resulted in collective losses of a little over Rs 21 crore and recoveries of only Rs 40 lakh. The period saw 603 cyberbullying cases, with scammers extorting Rs 106.5 crore and authorities recovering a mere Rs 2 crore, latest Maharashtra Cyber Cell data shows. With cyber fraudsters constantly finding new ways to target unsuspecting citizens, the enforcement is still trying to catch up — it has cracked only around 30% of the sextortion and cyberbullying cases during this period.Cyberbullying is a growing public health concern linked to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts. Sextortion has followed a similar pattern, with victims losing money after scammers blackmail them over morphed objectionable photos obtained during chats or WhatsApp video calls. State Cyber Cell data attribute the rise of both offences to increased internet access and lack of awareness among citizens. “Scams and sextortion will only keep getting advanced and we will witness newer modus operandi of such crimes,” pointed out cyber expert Ritesh Bhatia.A 23-year-old manager at a Powai real estate firm lost Rs 20,000 between April 4 and 6 after connecting with a user, Divya, on the dating application quack quack d. Powai police said the fraudster shared the victim’s private video with his brother, friend and a client from his contact list. A case was filed on Friday, following an additional demand of Rs 30,000 to prevent the video from being circulated on social media. In May 2024, Pant Nagar police in Ghatkopar (E) arrested Ramchandra Ambardekar for posting obscene comments about women police officers on social media. In Aug 2020, Mumbai police’s cyber cell arrested Shashikant Jadhav (27) from Aurangabad, for cyberbullying actress Sonakshi Sinha and using derogatory language against her.A senior IPS officer said, “The primary cause of cyberbullying is anonymity, allowing a bully to easily target anyone over the internet by hiding their original identity.”Research by the ministry of labour and employment in 2023 indicated that cyberbullying often stemmed from personal emotions or harmful intentions. Some perpetrators acted out of obsession, jealousy or revenge, especially after relationships ended badly, using online platforms to dominate or humiliate targets. Others sought to control, manipulate or harass victims, while some were motivated by curiosity or the thrill of invading privacy. Scammers and criminals stalk people online to steal personal information or blackmail them. Additionally, some individuals with mental health issues engage in cyberbullying without understanding its harm.According to cyber lawyer Prashant Mali, cyberbullying of women had increased because the law had failed to create deterrence and perpetrators believed they would remain anonymous. He added that aggression on social networking against women went unchecked and violators felt they were unshackled. To protect victims, Maharashtra Cyber Cell, in collaboration with Brush of Hope, launched a dedicated 24/7 helpline — 022-65366666 — to support victims of cyberbullying and sextortion in March this year. The service aims to provide psychological counselling, legal advice and emergency response measures to individuals experiencing isolation and fear due to online harassment. “This service is designed to assist victims of cyberbullying and sextortion by offering immediate support through psychological counselling, legal advice and emergency response measures, ensuring prompt assistance to those in need,” said a cyber police officer.Cyber psychologist Nirali Bhatia said in 2016, they launched Cyber Wellness Foundation to protect young internet users from online hate and cyberbullying through counselling, guidance and awareness education initiatives. Since then, it has supported over 20,000 victims, conducted over 500 training sessions and workshops and launched over 20 anti-cyberbullying campaigns nationwide.

IND vs SA [WATCH]: Harshit Rana gives an aggressive send off to Dewald Brevis after dismissing him during Ranchi ODI

Harshit Rana delivered his most defining performance yet in the opening ODI against South Africa in Ranchi. Under pressure after months of scrutiny, the young pacer responded with raw pace, accuracy and intent. His spell not only broke South Africa’s early resistance but also shifted the momentum firmly towards India. But it was his emotional, fiery send-off to Dewald Brevis that became one of the biggest talking points of the match.

Harshit Rana gives an fiery send off to Dewald Brevis after dismissing him during IND vs SA ODI game in Ranchi

Rana’s moment of intensity unfolded the second he removed the dangerous Brevis, a wicket that carried far more weight than just numbers. Bowling with rhythm and confidence during a crucial passage of play, Rana tempted Brevis into going aerial over cover, only for the batter to mistime it straight to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who completed a clean catch. The dismissal instantly lifted India’s spirits, but Rana’s reaction became the highlight, an animated, charged send-off as he pointed Brevis toward the pavilion, a gesture reflecting months of bottled-up frustration and the relief of delivering when it mattered most.

His celebration spread across social media within minutes, sparking debates about aggression, passion, and acceptable on-field conduct. Many viewed it as a raw display of competitiveness from a bowler trying to cement his place, while others saw it as a moment that could attract ICC attention, potentially leading to a fine. What stood out, however, was how this fiery reaction encapsulated Rana’s journey: a promising pacer criticized heavily in the past year, finally responding with performance and personality. His three early wickets, including Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock for ducks, set the tone for India’s dominance, but the Brevis send-off ensured that Rana walked off the field not just as a wicket-taker, but as one of the match’s central characters, blending skill, emotion and high-stakes theatre into a single unforgettable moment.

IND vs SA 1st ODI, Ranchi: South Africa fighting hard against India

India’s commanding total of 349/8 has set up a gripping contest in the first ODI at Ranchi, but South Africa have staged a spirited counterattack after a disastrous start. Virat Kohli’s majestic 135 (120), supported by Rohit Sharma’s fluent 57 and KL Rahul’s well-paced 60, powered India to a strong total despite regular breakthroughs from Marco Jansen, Nandre Burger and Baartman. South Africa’s reply began in shambles with Rickelton (0), de Kock (0) and skipper Aiden Markram (7) gone inside 5 overs, reducing them to 11/3.

But Matt Breetzke and Tony de Zorzi rebuilt with a 66-run stand before Kuldeep Yadav’s double-wicket burst halted the momentum. Dewald Brevis’ explosive 37 kept the chase alive, and then Jansen shifted the game dramatically with a stunning 70 off 39, smashing eight fours and three sixes. His counterattack, combined with Corbin Bosch’s calm unbeaten 28, has kept South Africa fighting at 278/8 after 42 overs, needing 72 runs off 48 balls. With six overs left and one frontline wicket remaining, this match is perfectly poised for a tense finish.

‘Gunmen opened fire after blast’: FC HQ in Pakistan targeted again; three killed

Fresh violence has erupted in Pakistan after a suicide bomber struck the main gate of the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Balochistan’s Nokkundi, triggering a fierce exchange of fire that left three attackers dead. Security officials said the assault began when a suicide bomber detonated himself at the entrance, prompting a rapid response from FC personnel who engaged the remaining gunmen.According to FC Balochistan South, the attackers were linked to Fitna-al-Khawarij, a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. The force said three terrorists were killed in the retaliatory firefight, while a clearance operation was underway to ensure no further threats remained inside the compound. Officials said the situation was “under control” and vowed that “the last of the terrorists will also be dealt with soon. The latest attack comes just days after gunmen and two suicide bombers stormed a paramilitary complex in Peshawar. Police said one bomber targeted the main entrance while another moved deeper into the facility. Three people were killed, and security personnel had to cordon off the area amid fears more militants were hiding inside. Videos shared online captured the sound of repeated explosions near FC Chowk, as officers warned that the headquarters was under attack and emergency measures had been activated. This escalation follows a series of deadly incidents across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this year, a car bomb outside the FC headquarters in Quetta killed ten people, while a suicide blast at a political rally in September left 11 dead. Pakistan’s forces continue to face a sustained insurgency in Balochistan, where hundreds of security personnel and civilians have been killed throughout the year.
