SRINAGAR: J&K State Investigating Agency (SIA) on Thursday filed a chargesheet before a designated court against a Poonch resident, Sabar Hussain, for harbouring terrorists involved in the brutal killing of a govt employee two years ago in Jammu’s Rajouri district. An official spokesperson said unidentified terrorists suspected to be associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)/The Resistance Front (TRF) forcibly entered the residence of Mohammed Razaq at Kunda in Thanamandi, Rajouri, on April 22, 2024, and opened indiscriminate fire, killing him on the spot. Razaq’s brother, Tahir Khurshid alias Tahir Fauji, a Territorial Army jawan, sustained injuries in the attack.Investigations revealed that Sabar Hussain, a native of Khabalwali in Poonch district, had provided shelter, food and logistical support to three LeT/TRF terrorists involved in the terror killing at his seasonal hut in Chamrer during late June and early July, 2024. “Prima facie, offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act have been established against the accused,” the spokesperson said.Razaq’s father, Mohammad Akbar, who worked with the social welfare department, was also killed by terrorists 20 years ago, on March 13, 2004, in the same village. Razaq was given a job by the government on compassionate grounds in the same department.

AIFF grant extension to Mohun Bagan, Kerala Blasters for non-payment of participation fee | Football News

New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Thursday has granted Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) and Kerala Blasters a three-day extension, until April 5 (Sunday), to pay the first participation fee towards the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season. As per the revised financial model shared with the clubs, each club was due to pay Rs 30 lakh by March 5, another Rs 30 lakh between March 28 and April 4 and Rs 20 lakh by May 1.

ISL commercial rights: AIFF get two different bids

The AIFF has reminded the clubs that failure to remit the entire amount, including the fine of Rs 1 lakh per day, may lead to “disqualification of the club from participation”.In the early communication on the topic, AIFF had said that in the event payments are not paid for seven days, they shall issue a notice of disqualification to the club(s). If no payments are made for the four days that follow, the club(s) will be disqualified from next season’s ISL.“A fine of Rs 1 lakh per day shall be levied for each day of delay from the due date until actual payment. Upon the expiry of seven days of continued non-payment, AIFF shall issue a notice of disqualification to the club. If the default is not remedied within four days from the date of such notice, the club shall be deemed disqualified from participation in the next season of the ISL, without any further communication,” said the communication by the AIFF to the 14 ISL clubs.AIFF also clarified that their decision (s) “shall be final, binding, and not appealable.”The revision to the financial model saw AIFF’s contribution to the league’s operational costs go from Rs 9.7 crore to zero. The federation, which is running the ISL this season, posted a revenue deficit of Rs 25.9 crore in its 2024-25 audited statements. In the aftermath of Reliance-subsidiary FSDL’s exit in December 2025, AIFF has been running the show without the annual Rs 50 crore that it used to get as commercial rights. The governing body is hoping to land a new partner for the next 15-20 years, with the bidding process closing on March 26. As TimesofIndia.com had reported, GMR Sports, FanCode and Capri Sports have thrown their hat in the ring so far.

IPL 2026 [WATCH]: Virat Kohli cracks up RCB camp with funny mimicry of Romario Shepherd’s batting style

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are currently riding a wave of momentum that most franchises can only dream of. After finally ending their title drought in 2025, the defending champions have sprinted out of the blocks in IPL 2026 with a commanding victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. While their on-field clinical execution is making headlines, it is the infectious camaraderie behind the scenes that suggests this ‘New Age RCB’ is built on more than just talent—it’s built on genuine brotherhood.

Virat Kohli entertains teammates with spot-on impression of Romario Shepherd

Nothing captured this spirit better than a recent viral video from the RCB practice sessions. In the clip, talismanic batter Virat Kohli is seen entertaining his teammates with a pitch-perfect, comedic mimicry of West Indies powerhouse Romario Shepherd. Kohli, known for his high-octane intensity during matches, channelled his inner comedian to replicate Shepherd’s unique, wide-stanced power-hitting setup. The imitation, complete with Shepherd’s distinct backlift and aggressive follow-through, left the entire squad, including Phil Salt and mentor Dinesh Karthik, in splits.

The choice of victim for Kohli’s antics isn’t accidental. Shepherd has rapidly evolved from a tactical signing into a cult hero within the RCB dressing room. Since joining in 2025, the Guyanese all-rounder has delivered moments of pure gold. Fans still talk about his blistering 14-ball 53 against CSK last season, a knock that essentially paved the way for their playoff qualification. Shepherd further cemented his legacy by dismissing PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer in the 2025 final, a turning point that secured RCB’s maiden trophy.

Shepherd’s 2026 campaign is off to an equally explosive start, having dismantled the SRH top order with a three-wicket haul. Kohli’s light hearted ribbing of Shepherd’s batting style reflects a team that is comfortable in its own skin. When the world’s premier batter feels free to joke around with the team’s primary finisher, it signals a lack of hierarchy that often precedes a dynasty. Kohli himself isn’t just joking around; he’s leading by example on the pitch, having kicked off the season with a sublime 69 off 38 balls, proving his purple patch is far from over.

Here’s the video:

Kohli’s mentorship and the RCB’s road to the Southern Derby

Beyond the laughter, the RCB camp remains a hub for elite mentorship. Young left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal recently shed light on the deeper side of the RCB culture. Ostwal shared how Kohli meticulously analyzes net sessions, offering the youngster precise feedback on mindset and execution. This balance of fun and focus is what coach Andy Flower and mentor Karthik have been striving for.

The vibes in the Bengaluru camp couldn’t be better, but the ultimate test looms large. RCB is set to face their eternal rivals, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), this Sunday, April 5. As the team transitions from the lightheartedness of Kohli’s impressions to the tactical rigors of the ‘Southern Derby,’ the defending champions look more dangerous than ever. If the harmony in the dugout is any indication, the RCB faithful might just have another trophy parade to plan for in 2026.

Who is Randy George? US defence secretary Pete Hegseth asks army chief of staff general to step down

US defence secretary Pete Hegseth has asked army chief of staff general Randy George to step down and take immediate retirement, reports CBS News.Hegseth reportedly wants someone in the role who will fully implement the vision he and President Trump have for the army. A senior defence department official told CBS News, “We are grateful for his service, but it was time for a leadership change in the Army.George is a West Point graduate and career infantry officer who has served in the military for decades. He was commissioned in 1988 and has deployed during Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Before being appointed army chief of staff, George served as vice chief of staff from 2022 to 2023 and as senior military assistant to US defence secretary Lloyd Austin from 2021 to 2022 during the Biden administration.George was nominated for the position of army chief of staff by then US President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate in 2023. A typical four-year term would have kept him in the post until 2027.The current vice chief of staff, general Christopher LaNeve, who previously served as Hegseth’s military aide and as commanding general of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division from 2022 to 2023, will serve as acting Army chief of staff. Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said LaNeve is “a battle-tested leader with decades of operational experience and is completely trusted by Secretary Hegseth to carry out the vision of this administration without fault.”Hegseth has previously fired over a dozen senior military officers. The decision to remove George was not related to a recent incident in which Hegseth overruled the Army’s suspension of an aircrew that flew by American artist Kid Rock’s house in Nashville. After the suspension and an administrative review, Hegseth wrote on his personal X account, “No punishment. No investigation. Carry on, patriots.” George’s ouster was independent of this event.

CM Omar seeks probe in Ganderbal ‘encounter’ after family disputes ‘terrorist’ claim | India News

CM Omar seeks probe in Ganderbal ‘encounter’ after family disputes ‘terrorist’ claim

SRINAGAR: J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday sought a “transparent and time-bound probe” after a family from his constituency, Ganderbal, claimed that a person killed in an alleged encounter by the Army on March 31 had no links with terrorism, and lodged a police complaint seeking an FIR and investigation.Omar said the family’s claim should not be dismissed. “At the very least, this encounter needs a transparent & time-bound (sic.) probe with the facts made public. Any attempt to obfuscate or delay the announcement of a probe will only damage credibility & that is not in anyone’s interest,” he wrote on X.On Wednesday morning, the Army had said one terrorist was eliminated during a joint operation with J&K Police in the Arahama area of Ganderbal the previous night. However, Ajaz Ahmad Mughal, the brother of the deceased Rashid Ahmad Mughal (28), claimed he had no involvement in terror activities.Ajaz said his brother left home on the morning of March 31 and did not return. On April 1, around 10 am, the SHO of the Lar police station informed him that his brother had met with an accident, and brought him to the police control room in Srinagar, where he was asked to identify the body.Ajaz claimed police informed him that the body was of a foreign terrorist. “I told them he is my brother,” he said, adding that bullets had damaged his brother’s skull. After identifying his brother, Ajaz said he was asked by police to accompany him to Kupwara in north Kashmir, where he was buried in a graveyard. Since 2019, the bodies of local terrorists killed in encounters are not handed to the families, and are buried away in Kupwara and Uri to prevent mass gatherings.Ajaz said everyone in the village of Chountwaliewar and the Ganderbal district knew his brother and could substantiate that he was not involved in terrorism, but helped people get Aadhaar and domicile certificates. “He was preparing for recruitment in the Army,” Ajaz said.Police have not issued any statement on the operation. Srinagar-based defence PRO refused to comment on the family’s allegations and said police would check the background of the slain person, and details would emerge in a few days.Srinagar-Ganderbal MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi called the allegations grave, saying that “silence from J&K Police is unacceptable”.Former CM Mehbooba Mufti, too, alleged that it was a fake encounter. “He was an orphan and was running an NGO,” she said while speaking to media persons.

Iran claims attack on Oracle data center in Dubai; says: IRGC’s navy command ...
Iran’s IRGC says 37th wave of attacks launched against Israel, heavy missiles used

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reportedly claimed that it has struck a data center of American tech company Oracle in Dubai. According to a report in AlJazeera, IRGC’s navy command claims it launched an attack on a data center belonging to the US technology firm Oracle in Dubai. The claim was reportedly made via Iranian state media and follows the IRGC’s recent public threats to target facilities of 18 major US tech companies, including Oracle, in the Middle East.Just a day earlier, on April 1, IRGC also claimed credit for an attack on an Amazon cloud computing center in Bahrain. The Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said that civil defence teams were extinguishing a fire at a company facility following what authorities described as an Iranian attack. The report of the strike came a day after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards threatened to target U.S. companies in the Middle East, including Microsoft, Google and Apple , in retaliation for attacks on Iran.Last week, the e-commerce giant said its Amazon Web Services region in Bahrain had been “disrupted” amid the current conflict in the Middle East, marking the second time in a month that its operations have been affected by the war.Earlier this week, IRGC reportedly sent a warning to American companies, similar to one issued in March. In its message, IRGC said that it would start targeting US technology and finance companies in the Middle East. IRGC’s post warned “employees of these companies to leave their workplaces immediately to save their lives. It said that residents around these terrorist companies in all countries in the region should also leave their places within a radius of one kilometer and go to a safe place.” In a statement, the Guards said, “These companies, starting from 8:00 pm (1630 GMT) Tehran time on Wednesday, April 1, should expect the destruction of their relevant units in exchange for every assassination in Iran.” The IRGC said the U.S. had “ignored our repeated warnings about the need to stop terrorist operations, and today, a number of Iranian citizens were martyred in your and your Israeli allies’ terrorist attacks. In the post that reportedly appeared on Telegram messaging app, the IRGC accused these 18 companies of acting as “spies” for the US government and helping it to carry out strikes. It said that since the main element in designing and tracking terror targets are American ICT and AI companies, in response to this terrorist operation, from now on the main institutions effective in terrorist operations will be our legitimate targets.

American companies named in IRGC’s warning letter

Out of the 18 companies named in IRGC’s letter, 10 are American technology companies. Names include:* Microsoft* Apple* Google* Meta* IBM * Cisco* Oracle* Tesla * Nvidia* Intel* Palantir* JP Morgan * Boeing

Donald Trump’s address to the nation on Iran war

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has issued a sharp response following recent comments from Washington, asserting that “the US President’s explicit threat to ‘bomb Iran back to the Stone Age’ reflects ignorance, not strength, and constitutes evidence of intent to commit war crimes under international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute.”In a post on X, the Iranian Mission to the UN shared the following: “The US President’s explicit threat to ‘bomb Iran back to the Stone Age’ reflects ignorance, not strength, and constitutes evidence of intent to commit war crimes under international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute. Iran’s civilisation spans more than 7,000 years, whereas the US is scarcely 250 years old. Civilisations are defined by their history, culture, resilience, and scientific contributions. The world remains indebted to the civilisation and knowledge that Iranian scholars have bestowed upon humanity for millennia. Such a civilisation cannot be destroyed by bombing.”The essage from Tehran followed national address by the US President Donald Trump, during which he maintained that while Washington has successfully reached its primary goals, the American military will continue to launch strikes against various locations throughout Iran.

‘For the IPL to move from 74 to 94 matches, we need a bigger window’: IPL chairman Arun Dhumal | Cricket News

'For the IPL to move from 74 to 94 matches, we need a bigger window': IPL chairman Arun Dhumal
Has IPL Chairman hinted at IPL expansion? (Screengrab)

Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Singh Dhumal has opened up on the possibility of expanding the tournament, stating that while demand for more matches exists, the biggest challenge remains the packed international cricket calendar. In a conversation with the Financial Times, Dhumal explained that the IPL’s growth, from the current 74 matches to a potential 84 or even 94-game season, depends largely on finding additional space in the global schedule.Dhumal highlighted that the current Future Tours Programme (FTP), which governs international fixtures, leaves little room for expansion.

“For the IPL to move from 74 to 94 matches, we really need a bigger window,” he said.At present, the tournament operates in a limited window between mid-March and the end of May. Extending beyond that period is not feasible due to the onset of the monsoon in parts of India. He also pointed out that increasing the number of matches within the existing window would lead to more double-headers, something broadcasters are not in favour of.“If we try to increase matches in the current window, we will end up having more double-headers. That does not work well for broadcasters. We have to consider their interests as well,” he added.Shift from bilateral cricket could open doorsDhumal suggested that changing trends in global cricket could eventually pave the way for IPL expansion. He noted a declining interest in bilateral series, with several cricket boards launching their own franchise leagues.“There is definitely less interest in some bilateral games. That is why countries are coming up with their own leagues,” he said, citing tournaments such as The Hundred, Big Bash League, ILT20, SA20, and the Caribbean Premier League.According to Dhumal, if this trend continues, cricket boards may opt for fewer bilateral series or ones that are more commercially viable, creating space for tournaments like the IPL to grow.“If this is the trend, then every country will want fewer bilaterals… and then there is scope to enlarge the IPL window,” he explained.Balancing growth and global calendarDespite the IPL’s immense popularity and financial strength, Dhumal stressed the importance of collaboration with other cricket boards.“We are hoping for more discussions with all the countries and colleagues. If that works out, it should work out for everyone,” he said.IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal looks to extend the IPL schedule from 72 to 94 after the cycle of 2027,” It makes sense, and it is already locked until 2027. But when they plan post-2027, we will have discussions. The IPL is not only adding value to India and Indian players; it is adding value to world cricket at large. So all these players would want more.Hopefully, when we decide on the next cycle, we will be able to carve out a bigger window so we can extend it beyond 74,” Arun said.

IPL 2026: Abhishek Sharma left fuming after Varun Chakravarthy’s disputed catch denies SRH opener a blazing fifty against KKR

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma found himself at the heart of a heated moment during IPL 2026 as his promising innings against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended in dramatic fashion at Eden Gardens. Just when he looked set for a well-deserved half-century, a disputed catch brought his knock to a frustrating halt, leaving both the batter and fans stunned.

Abhishek Sharma’s controversial dismissal

The incident unfolded in the ninth over when Abhishek went for an aggressive pull shot off a slower delivery from Blessing Muzarabani. The ball seemed destined to race to the boundary, but Varun Chakravarthy sprinted in and attempted a low catch at deep square leg. What followed was immediate uncertainty.

While KKR players celebrated confidently, Abhishek remained rooted at the crease, clearly unconvinced that the catch had been taken cleanly. The hesitation from both sides reflected just how close the call was. With no clarity on the field, the umpires referred the decision upstairs, setting the stage for a tense review.

As replays were shown on the big screen, the debate only intensified. Different camera angles told different stories. Some visuals suggested that Chakravarthy had managed to get his fingers underneath the ball, indicating a fair catch. Others, however, hinted at the possibility of the ball brushing the turf before being secured.

One particular angle even showed a slight upward movement that raised suspicion, though such motion can sometimes occur even after a clean take due to hand movement. With no definitive evidence to overturn the original call, the third umpire was left with a difficult choice.

In the end, the decision stayed with the on-field call, and the screen confirmed it – ‘OUT’. It was one of those moments where technology could not provide a clear answer, leaving room for interpretation and debate among fans and experts.

Abhishek furious after being given out

The decision did not sit well with Abhishek. His reaction said it all – he lingered at the crease, visibly frustrated, before slowly making his way back. Even as he walked off, he was seen expressing his disappointment, engaging in a discussion with his batting partner Heinrich Klaasen.

Also WATCH: Sachin Tendulkar dons national colours again to celebrate 15th anniversary of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph

For a player who had looked in complete control, the dismissal felt particularly harsh. Abhishek had been in sublime touch, smashing 48 runs off just 21 balls. His innings included four boundaries and four towering sixes, played with remarkable confidence and timing.

Alongside Travis Head, who scored a quickfire 48, Abhishek had given SRH a flying start with an 82-run opening partnership. The duo had put KKR under pressure early on, making the controversial dismissal even more impactful in the context of the game.

There was also a personal milestone within reach. During his innings, Abhishek became only the second player after David Warner to cross 100 sixes for SRH eventually reaching 101 before his departure. It was a significant achievement, but one that was overshadowed by the manner in which his innings ended.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time SRH found themselves on the wrong side of a close call this season. In the previous match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Klaasen’s dismissal had also sparked controversy, raising questions about consistency in third-umpire decisions.

$20 million Everest rescue scam clouds Nepal’s climbing season

$20 million Everest rescue scam clouds Nepal’s climbing season
Trekkers given food that induced nausea, weakened them so they couldn’t continue on foot & needed emergency flights

Nepal’s spring Everest climbing season opened this week amid a police probe into an alleged insurance fraud worthe nearly $20 million in which guides, helicopter operators, hospital staff and agents are accused of staging or inflating medical emergencies to trigger costly helicopter evacuations and bogus insurance claims. Police said the methods included mixing baking soda into food to induce nausea and bloating, giving excessive Diamox — a medicine that helps with acclimatisation at high altitude — with forced over-hydration to mimic symptoms of high-altitude cerebral edema, and in some cases using laxatives to weaken trekkers to the point where they could no longer continue on foot. Fake flight manifests, load sheets, invoices and hospital records were then allegedly used to support the claims. Shiva Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson for Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau, said, “Hospitals, helicopter operators, and guides are also linked in this chain; we are investigating this.”Operators said abuse of rescue flights had grown in recent years and had begun affecting the availability of helicopters for genuine emergencies. Mingma Sherpa, owner of the Kathmandu-based Seven Summit Treks, told TOI that the fallout could extend beyond the current case if international insurers lose confidence in Nepal’s rescue chain. Lukas Furtenbach, the Austrian head of Furtenbach Adventures, said the allegations, especially those involving food tampering and hospital records, threatened confidence in Nepal’s rescue system. “The level of organised crime here is staggering. We are talking about millions of dollars being funneled through hospitals that provide fake discharge summaries for patients who were never even sick,” he said.Investigators said the racket ran between 2022 and 2025, involved more than 300 fake rescues, and in some cases allegedly made trekkers ill intentionally before flying them to Kathmandu and billing foreign insurers through forged or manipulated records.Police have charged 32 people with offences linked to organised crime and widened the investigation to include the owners of Mountain Rescue Service, Nepal Charter Service and Shreedhi Hospital. Among the accused, nine are in custody while 23 are absconding. “In our initial investigation, we found that these companies were involved in around 300 fake rescues,” Shrestha said.Investigators said one of the main methods was to load several trekkers onto a single helicopter and bill multiple insurers as if each person had been flown on a separate private charter. They also alleged that exhausted trekkers were pressured to exaggerate symptoms and, in some cases, deliberately pushed into distress so that evacuation appeared to be the only option.Central Investigation Bureau chief Manoj Kumar KC said, “We have hard evidence of the companies and individuals involved in the fake rescue scam. All of them will be prosecuted…”Garrett Madison, an expedition leader with the US-based Madison Mountaineering who has summited Everest 10 times, added, “We see it every season: helicopters flying in circles for people who just have a headache or are a bit tired from the walk. It has turned a life-saving tool into a mountain taxi service. My concern is for the person who actually has HACE or a broken limb — will the helicopter be available for them…?”The probe also examined how commissions allegedly moved through the system. In a recorded statement, Dr Girwan Raj Timilsina of Shreedhi Hospital said, “My hospital has also given commission from its earnings to trekking companies and rescue companies to promote business.”Nepal Tourism Board chief executive Deepak Raj Joshi said corrective action could help restore confidence.
