Men’s heart risk starts earlier than you think | India News

Men's heart risk starts earlier than you think

NEW DELHI: Most men in their thirties don’t see heart disease as a real threat. New research suggests that may be exactly when it begins.A large, long-term study published in Journal of American Heart Association shows that by the mid-30s, men’s risk of heart disease starts rising faster than women’s – years before any warning signs appear. Tracking over 5,000 adults for more than three decades, researchers found a clear divergence around age 35, after which men’s risk climbs faster and stays higher through midlife.Men reached a 5% incidence of cardiovascular disease about seven years earlier than women. The gap was even wider for coronary heart disease, where risk appeared more than a decade earlier, pointing to early damage in blood vessels. Notably, the difference persisted even after accounting for factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity and physical activity.Experts say this mirrors a growing concern in India. Dr Ambuj Roy, professor of cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, said heart disease can no longer be viewed as a middle-age condition. “Risk factors are now appearing as early as the 30s, and since Indians develop cardiovascular disease earlier, screening for diabetes, hypertension and abnormal lipids must begin sooner,” he said.Experts also caution that the findings – based on a western cohort – may underestimate risks in Indian population. Dr Mohit Gupta of Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research said cardiovascular risk in South Asians often surfaces even earlier. While men tend to develop coronary disease sooner, women’s risk rises sharply after menopause and is often missed. “The key message is not about men versus women, but about missed prevention,” he said, calling for screening and risk awareness to begin in the thirties or earlier.Current screening guidelines typically focus on those aged 40 and above. For women, the pattern is different – lower risk in early adulthood followed by a sharp rise after menopause, narrowing the gap over time.

The 23-year-old pacer consistently bowled at high speeds, crossing 145 kmph regularly and even hitting 150 twice in the same over. His 154.2 kmph delivery became the fastest ball of IPL 2026, beating Anrich Nortje’s earlier mark of 150.9 kmph.Sharma earned his IPL spot after a strong performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he was Rajasthan’s top wicket-taker. Gujarat Titans showed faith in him by picking him in the playing XI early, and he has delivered steady performances so far.Despite Sharma’s pace, Rajasthan Royals posted a big total of 210/6 after choosing to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave a solid start, adding 69 runs in the powerplay. Jaiswal went on to score a half-century, while Dhruv Jurel played a crucial knock of 75 off 42 balls, accelerating the innings in the later stages. There were a few setbacks with quick wickets in the middle overs, but Jurel’s innings ensured Rajasthan crossed the 200 mark. Gujarat bowlers managed to pull things back slightly towards the end, but still faced a challenging target. With Gujarat already missing captain Shubman Gill, the big question remained whether they could chase down the total against a confident Rajasthan side.

Court allows Mumbai mayor to renew expired passport during trial | Mumbai News

Court allows ritu tawde to renew expired passport during trial Mumbai: A sessions court on Monday allowed mayor and BJP corporator Ritu Tawde to renew her expired passport, even as she faces trial for the alleged assault of schoolteachers. The decision follows a recent rejection of the discharge plea filed by the politician, where the court noted there was sufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges. The travel document expired in May 2025, prompting Tawde to seek the court’s permission for its renewal from the passport office. Additional Sessions Judge YP Manathkar noted that the prosecution had raised no objection to the administrative request. After reviewing the charges and the current status of the matter, the judge observed that maintaining a valid passport would not interfere with the upcoming legal proceedings.“There seems no reason for rejecting her permission to renew her passport. Renewal of her passport will not hamper the trial of the case,” the judge said. Despite granting the request for renewal, the court has placed strict limitations on Tawde’s movement to ensure her presence during the trial. The judge granted the permission on the specific condition that the “Applicant shall not travel abroad without taking prior permission of this Court.” The case against the mayor stems from a 2016 incident at a municipal school in Shastri Nagar, where a dispute over a teacher’s transfer allegedly led to a physical confrontation. It is alleged that Tawde and several others used criminal force against staff members, with victims specifically identifying her as an aggressor. The judge noted that the evidence presented was “more than sufficient to frame charge against the applicant,” as the victims had “categorically named” her as the person who assaulted them.

Prime Minister: Women should ensure quota bills passed unopposed | India News

Prime Minister: Women should ensure quota bills passed unopposed

NEW DELHI: PM Modi Saturday made his first comments on the govt’s move to implement the women’s reservation law from the next Lok Sabha polls, as he asked women to put pressure on the opposition to ensure related bills are passed in Parliament unopposed, while rejecting as a lie the charge that southern states will lose out in delimitation due to their success in controlling population.Addressing an election rally in Thiruvalla in Kerala, he said Parliament’s budget session would reconvene for three days from April 16 so that a law for 33% quota for women in Lok Sabha and assemblies enacted by his govt is implemented from the 2029 LS polls. Modi also confirmed the delimitation exercise to increase the seats of legislatures by the same number that will be set aside for women.PM Modi said, “People are spreading the lie that seats will fall where population is declining. We want Parliament’s stamp on a law that ensures Lok Sabha seats do not decline in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa or Telangana.”The PM acknowledged their good work in controlling population.Govt’s proposal is to increase the number of seats in legislatures by about 50% — number of LS constituencies will be upped to 816 from the current 543 — so that the additional number is allotted exclusively for women, said Modi but without giving out exact numbers.“You should tell members of Congress and LDF that these laws should be passed unopposed… Women should pressure all political parties,” he told voters in CPM-led LDF governed Kerala. He said, “I also appeal to them that this right of our mothers and sisters is pending for 40 years. It should not remain so in the 2029 polls.”Modi noted that his govt had called Congress for a meeting over the issue and has spoken to parties from opposition INDIA bloc. While some opposition parties attended the meeting spearheaded by home minister Amit Shah, Congress, TMC and Left have kept away.Congress and Left have called for an all-party meeting, an unlikely possibility with Parliament set to meet mid-month, a week ahead of assembly polls in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.Kerala is going to the polls on April 9, and BJP believes that its move for the women’s quota implementation will help it deepen traction with women voters in the three states, which have been a stronghold of opposition parties.

Digital initiative helps city cops find 44k lost or stolen phones since 2023 | Mumbai News

Mumbai: When Dhondiba Ghodke’s mobile phone was stolen from his Vile Parle-based shoe shop in Nov 2025, he never expected to see the device ever again. Beyond the hardware, the loss was personal; the device contained bank documents and photos. Ghodke was in for a surprise on Saturday when the Vile Parle police invited him to a special event, where his phone was returned along with those of others like him.Since 2023, the Mumbai Police have recovered 44,000 lost or stolen cellphones through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) database, a Union ministry of communications initiative aimed at combating mobile theft or misuse. About 70% of these recoveries occurred within the last eight months alone, Cyber Police said. Once a victim reports a device as stolen or missing at a police station, its International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is entered into the CEIR database by officers. Within 24 hours, the device is blocked, rendering it useless on any telecom network nationally. The moment a new SIM card is inserted by anyone into the blocked handset, the system triggers an automatic alert. The police can then track its location and initiate recovery. The tracking and recovery operations frequently cross state lines. In Jan, 13 Mumbai police teams were dispatched to 19 districts of UP, retrieving 1,650 handsets valued at Rs 2 crore. The deputy commissioner of police (cyber) is the nodal officer and coordinates the putting together of teams from local police stations for retrieval. For some, the recovery is bittersweet. Hemant Mayekar, another Vile Parle resident, received his phone from the police on Saturday, but the memory card was never found. “My mother was hospitalised in December 2025, and I was running around for her medicines when the phone slipped from my pocket,” Mayekar said. “I faced immense trouble because I couldn’t access her medical documents. Now, my mother is no more, and I’ve lost all her photos as well,” he said. On Saturday, 939 phones, retrieved using CEIR, were returned to their owners, including Ghodke and Mayekar, at separate events in the western suburbs and central Mumbai. Cybersecurity consultant Ritesh Bhatia advocated for the establishment of a central coordinating agency to handle inter-state retrievals. Currently, police teams travel hundreds of kms to bring devices home. “A central agency could coordinate with police in other states to retrieve and ship devices back,” Bhatia noted. “This would save significant time and resources,” he said.
