Oil prices rise as Trump’s Hormuz threat looms; WTI hits $113, Brent climbs to $110

Oil prices extended their rally on Tuesday amid rising tensions in the Middle East, as markets remained cautious ahead of Donald Trump’s deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude futures increased by 57 cents, or 0.5%, to $110.34 a barrel at 1202 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose by $1.26, or 1.1%, to $113.67.This comes after US President Donald Trump has threatened to rain “hell” on Tehran if it does not comply with his deadline of 8 pm EDT on Tuesday to reopen the strait. “Taken out in one night,” he warned, stating further action would follow if no agreement is reached.Iran, responding to a US proposal conveyed through mediator Pakistan, rejected the idea of a ceasefire, insisting instead that a permanent end to the war was required, Reuters reported. It also pushed back against demands to reopen the waterway. The Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed by Iranian forces after US .and Israeli attacks began on February 28, disrupting a route that typically handles around 20% of global oil flows.Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards halted two Qatari liquefied natural gas tankers and instructed them to hold position without explanation, according to sources. Shipping data has indicated limited movement of vessels through the strait since last Thursday. The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to vote on Tuesday on a resolution aimed at protecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, though the proposal has been significantly weakened after China opposed any authorisation of force, diplomats said.Tensions in the wider region also continued. Explosions were reported in Damascus and surrounding areas on Tuesday, triggered by the Israeli interception of Iranian missiles, according to Syrian state television.Saudi Arabia said it intercepted and destroyed seven ballistic missiles fired towards its Eastern Region, with debris landing near energy facilities, the defence ministry said.Global crude markets have come under pressure from the conflict, with spot premiums for US WTI crude surging to record levels as refiners in Asia and Europe seek alternative supplies amid disrupted Middle Eastern flows.

‘He is the biggest problem’: Ex-India cricketer exposes CSK’s biggest concern | Cricket News

‘He is the biggest problem’: Ex-India cricketer exposes CSK’s biggest concern

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has raised concerns over Noor Ahmad’s form, calling it the biggest issue for Chennai Super Kings following their 43-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026.Noor, who was one of CSK’s standout performers last season, has struggled to make an impact this year. The left-arm spinner has gone wicketless across three matches, conceding over 100 runs in roughly 10 overs, including an expensive outing against RCB where he was taken apart by Rajat Patidar and Tim David.“He (Noor) is CSK’s biggest problem right now. He has bowled around 10 overs this season and conceded over 100 runs. He does not have a single wicket. I believe that if he corrects the angle of his run-up, the alignment will improve, and his hand, which has been falling on one side, will become straighter as well,” Pathan said.Pathan also voiced his disappointment with Matt Henry, stating that the experienced pacer has not lived up to expectations so far. Henry conceded 36 runs in three overs against RCB without picking up a wicket and has looked ineffective throughout the campaign.“I am very disappointed with his bowling because he brings in a lot of experience. He has had performances and a good economy, but hasn’t been able to perform like that in this league. An experienced bowler does not bowl a half volley. Anshul Kamboj dismissed Virat Kohli with a bouncer after seeing him step out. Matt Henry bowled a full delivery even after seeing Virat step out,” he added. The former all-rounder further pointed out tactical errors in CSK’s approach to Tim David, whose unbeaten 70 off 25 balls powered RCB to a daunting total of 250/3.“Tim David usually stands outside the leg stump. So, bowling at the off stump is giving him width. If the bowler is thinking that he won’t give room by bowling at the off stump, he is actually giving him room. You have to bowl at the middle stump and leg stump; otherwise, he is going to hit you. You can block him initially, which Chennai did not do, and he took full advantage of that,” he remarked.CSK’s struggles have now extended to three consecutive defeats at the start of the season. They will be aiming to bounce back when they take on Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11.

Shocking! Umpire stabbed to death over run-out decision in local cricket match

NEW DELHI: In a shocking turn of events, an umpire was stabbed to death following a dispute over a run-out decision during a local cricket match in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, as reported by NDTV.The victim, Dola Ajith Babu, along with his friend Budumuri Chiranjeevi, was officiating at a local ground when the incident occurred. The incident took place on Sunday evening after an argument broke out between players from two teams over a run-out call.“Ajith Babu and Chiranjeevi intervened and settled the issue on the field. However, one of the spectators, Kanta Kishore, became angry and started abusing the umpires and players,” Circle Inspector Malleswara Rao said.“After the match ended, Ajith Babu, Chiranjeevi and a few friends went to a spot nearby. As soon as they reached the spot, another argument broke out. Kishore suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked the two umpires,” Rao said.Ajith was stabbed by Kishore and collapsed at the spot. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but doctors declared him dead.Chiranjeevi also sustained injuries in the attack.Ajith’s father, Dola Appala Raju, has lodged a murder complaint against Kishore.Ajith’s brother (not named) alleged that the accused, a resident of a neighbouring colony, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack. He further claimed that the dispute over a single run had been resolved earlier after intervention by village elders, but the accused later planned the attack.“… In the match, there was an argument over one run. The argument became heated, and the person who attempted the murder was not a cricket player. He is a resident of Vinayak Nagar. He came in between the argument and used abusive words, which led to a serious argument between both teams. Later, village elders came and settled the issue there itself. After everything, in the evening, they were under the influence of alcohol and planned this attack. He carried a knife in his pocket and came to the Padigadli junction and called Chiranjeevi” the victim’s brother told NDTV.“He started shouting and arguing. Suddenly, he took the knife out of his pocket and stabbed Dola Ajith in the chest. We tried to catch Kishore, but he ran away. We took Ajith Babu to VIMS Hospital, but no doctors were available, so we shifted him to Apollo. Around 8.15 pm, doctors declared him dead,” he added.
