France no longer hostile nation? After Macron snubs Trump, Iran allows ship to pass Hormuz

A French-owned container ship crossed the Strait of Hormuz, a possible sign that Iran may no longer view France as a hostile nation after President Emmanuel Macron criticised US President Donald Trump’s stance on the conflict. The Malta-flagged Kribi, owned by French shipping group CMA CGM, crossed the strategic waterway on April 2, according to MarineTraffic vessel tracking data. It is the first French-owned vessel to make the passage since US-Israeli attacks on Iran began at the end of February. The crossing came shortly after Macron publicly broke with Trump over the war and rejected any military attempt to reopen the Strait.Speaking during a visit to South Korea, Macron said proposals, “sometimes expressed by the United States”, to militarily secure the strategic waterway were not viable.“It is unrealistic because it would take an inordinate amount of time and would expose anyone crossing the strait to coastal threats,” he said, pointing to risks from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and missile capabilities. Also read | ‘Can’t keep contradicting himself every day’: Macron jabs Trump for Iran flip-flopsHe added that any resolution required “a ceasefire and a resumption of negotiations” with Iran, according to AFP.Macron also criticised Trump’s shifting messaging on the conflict. “You have to be serious. When you want to be serious, you don’t say the opposite every day of what you said the day before. And perhaps you shouldn’t talk every day.”It was not immediately clear how the vessel secured safe passage. However, LSEG shipping data showed the ship changed its destination on Thursday to “Owner France” before crossing Iranian territorial waters, signalling to Iranian authorities the nationality of its owner. The vessel had originally been bound for Pointe-Noire in the Republic of the Congo. Tracking data later showed it sailing south along the coast of Oman.CMA CGM did not immediately respond to a request for comment. France’s foreign ministry declined to comment. Before the war led to the effective closure of the Strait, the route carried about a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies. The waterway remains severely disrupted amid the wider Middle East conflict.Since the start of US-led military operations, Trump has made varying statements on strategy, allies and escalation, drawing scrutiny both domestically and internationally.

Rajpal Yadav: Delhi High Court reserves its verdict in Rajpal Yadav’s Rs 9 crore debt case, the actor makes an emotional plea | Hindi Movie News

Actor Rajpal Yadav has been in the news after he embroiled in a major legal controversy after being sent to Tihar Jail in connection with a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. The actor was out on bail but the matter was still in court. According to the latest update, the Delhi High Court on April 2 reserved its verdict after multiple attempts to reach a settlement failed, despite sustained judicial intervention. During the hearing, the actor also made an emotional plea before the court. The matter was heard by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma according to ANI, who expressed dissatisfaction over the actor’s inconsistent stance on repaying the dues. The judge remarked, “I am not getting my answers. The undertaking said something else, and now you are saying something else.”

Rajpal Yadav Breaks Silence On Sonu Sood Offer After Jail Ordeal, Announces Bhoot Bangla Comeback

Representing the complainant, advocate Avneet Singh Sikka argued that the actor had already accepted his conviction and could not now avoid liability. He pointed out that a revision petition filed in 2024 came with an unexplained delay of 1894 days and lacked sufficient justification for condonation. He further said that completing a sentence does not eliminate financial responsibility. Sikka added that despite repeated assurances, the dues remained unpaid, leaving the complainant with no choice but to proceed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.Throughout the proceedings, the court made several efforts to broker a settlement between the parties. At one point, the complainant agreed to accept Rs 6 crore as a full and final settlement. However, in an emotional response, Rajpal rejected the offer, stating that he had already faced significant financial hardship. Appearing virtually, he told the court that he had sold five flats and paid a considerable amount already. He stated, “I am not emotional… send me to jail five more times.”In a bid to resolve the impasse, the court also suggested a structured payment plan of ₹3 crore within a stipulated timeline, clarifying that it was only a judicial proposal and not a binding agreement. Even this effort failed to yield consensus. The court also criticised the conduct of the proceedings, cautioning, “Never think the judge weak if the judge is nice to you,” while noting that valuable judicial time was being wasted. With no agreement reached and differences persisting, the court ultimately reserved its judgment. The origins of the case date back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film’s poor box office performance resulted in heavy losses, eventually leading to a financial dispute. In 2018, a magisterial court convicted the actor under the Negotiable Instruments Act for cheque dishonour, sentencing him to six months in prison—a ruling later upheld by a sessions court in 2019. Over time, the outstanding amount escalated to nearly ₹9 crore.Rajpal was later granted interim bail and released from jail on February 16. The Delhi High Court extended interim bail until March 18, with conditions set by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, including a ₹1 lakh bail bond and one surety. Earlier, the court had directed him to deposit ₹1.5 crore by 3 PM to secure interim relief. After the complainant’s counsel, representing M/S Murli Project, confirmed that the amount had been credited to the company’s bank account against the bounced cheque, bail was granted.

Fact check: Does Ajinkya Rahane have ‘one of the best strike rates since 2023’? | Cricket News

Fact check: Does Ajinkya Rahane have 'one of the best strike rates since 2023'?
Ajinkya Rahane scored only 8 runs from 10 balls during the KKR vs SRH match in the IPL. (ANI)

Ajinkya Rahane is not one to be explosive behind the microphone. That changed, a wee bit, on Thursday after Kolkata Knight Riders skipper addressed the media after their 65-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2026.He was asked about his opening partnership with Finn Allen and the anchor-aggressor role between them. He was further probed on the ‘outside noise’ around his strike rate, especially against spin.

Rahane, who scored just 8 off 10 balls, didn’t hold back as KKR suffered their second straight loss of the season.“I think I have one of the best strike rates so far from 2023,” he said. “People who are talking about me (are) probably not watching the game or they have a certain agenda against me. They don’t like me playing. They don’t like to watch me play.”“The amount of success which I got, I guess they are jealous of me. I am not too worried. You guys know what I am doing. Just one bad innings…not a bad inning, but my intent was there. Sometimes as a batter, you don’t get that rhythm, you don’t get that flow. People who are talking, either they don’t understand the game (or) I think they want me to play a different kind of innings.“They didn’t expect that Ajinkya Rahane will basically prove his game this much. So I am happy they are talking about me, negative or positive, either way. I am really happy that they are talking. Let them talk.”

In the contest against SRH, Rahane scored only eight runs in nine balls before top-edging a Jaydev Unadkat slower delivery. During the brief stay, he struggled to find the gaps when facing the spin of Harsh Dubey and Abhishek Sharma in the powerplay overs. The ploy seemed to be to keep the seamers away from Rahane – against whom the right-hander does better.Does Ajinkya Rahane have a strong strike rate since IPL 2023?

Among players to have faced at least 300 balls since IPL 2023, his strike rate (167.78) during the powerplay overs has been the fourth best. This list is led by Travis Head (187.98).Among Indians, only Abhishek Sharma has a better strike rate during this period (176.56).Against the pacers with the new ball (effectively powerplay overs), Rahane’s strike rate stands at 170.79 but the challenge, as revealed against SRH, is the spinners with the new ball where his strike rate drops to 140.54. The larger issue, though, lies in the post-powerplay overs. His strike rate nosedives to 127.27 and 115.58, respectively, during the two middle over periods. Overall, it stands at 129.30.Against spin in the middle overs (7-15 overs), his strike rate further drops to 114.02.KKR now have consecutive home games over the next week, against Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 and April 9, respectively, where they would be hoping to pick their first win of the season.

What led an India-bound Iranian crude tanker to reroute to China | India News

What led an India-bound Iranian crude tanker to reroute to China

NEW DELHI: A US-sanctioned tanker carrying Iranian crude oil rerouted mid-voyage from India to China, with payment-related issues appearing to be the main reason behind the change in declared destination. The Aframax tanker Ping Shun, built in 2002 and sanctioned by the US in 2025, had earlier indicated Vadinar in Gujarat as its destination. If the cargo had reached India, it would have marked the country’s first Iranian crude purchase in nearly seven years.

Russian Oil Tanker Bound for China Makes U-Turn to India as Delhi Steps Up Imports Amid Iran War

According to ship-tracking firm Kpler, the vessel is now signalling Dongying in China instead of Vadinar. There is no confirmation that the destination shown on the ship’s Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder is final, and it may still change during transit.“An Iranian crude vessel ‘Ping Shun’ that had been en route to Vadinar, India, over the past three days has dropped India as its declared destination near arrival and is now signalling China,” said Sumit Ritolia, Lead Research Analyst, Refining and Modelling at commodity market analytic firm Kpler.According to Ritolia, the rerouting appears to be linked to tightening payment terms.“The shift in destination of Ping Shun appears to be payment-related, with sellers tightening terms, moving away from the earlier 30-60 day credit window toward upfront or near-term settlement.”It was not clear who the actual seller and buyer of the crude were. The development comes at a time when Indian refiners have been exploring opportunities to buy a few cargoes of Iranian oil at sea after the US last month waived sanctions on such purchases for 30 days. That waiver window expires on April 19.While the waiver allowed countries to buy Iranian oil already at sea, the key challenge remains payments.Iran continues to remain outside SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication), the global banking messaging system used by financial institutions to securely send and receive transaction information.Earlier purchases from Iran were made in Euro through a Turkish bank, but that option no longer exists.Iran was cut off from the SWIFT system in March 2012 following European Union sanctions over its nuclear programme. Further disruptions came in 2018 after the US reimposed sanctions, sharply restricting Tehran’s ability to receive oil payments, conduct international trade and access foreign currency reserves. The Ping Shun is estimated to be carrying around 600,000 barrels of crude that was loaded from Kharg Island around March 4. Its declared ETA to Vadinar was April 4, according to Kpler.Vadinar is home to the 20 million tonnes a year refinery of Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy. If delivered, the cargo would have been the first Iranian crude shipment to India since 2019.India was once a major buyer of Iranian oil, importing significant volumes of Iran light and Iran heavy grades because of strong refinery compatibility and favourable commercial terms. But after sanctions tightened in 2018, imports stopped from May 2019, with those volumes replaced by crude from the Middle East, the US and other sources. At its peak, Iranian crude accounted for 11.5 per cent of India’s total oil imports.India imported around 518,000 barrels per day of Iranian oil in 2018. That fell to 268,000 barrels per day between January and May 2019, when the US had granted waivers to a few buyers. There have been no imports since then.India’s oil ministry has so far maintained that any decision on resuming Iranian crude purchases would depend on techno-commercial feasibility.According to estimates, around 95 million barrels of Iranian oil are currently on vessels at sea. Of this, about 51 million barrels could be sold to India, while the rest is considered more suitable for buyers in China and Southeast Asia.Ritolia said the latest rerouting shows how financial terms are becoming central to the movement of Iranian crude.“While such mid-voyage destination changes are not unprecedented with Iranian crudes, they highlight the increasing sensitivity of trade flows to financial terms and counterparty risk,” he said.“If the payment issues are resolved, the cargo could still make its way to an Indian refinery. However, the episode underscores how commercial terms are becoming as critical as logistics in determining Iranian crude flows to other countries apart from China.”

Oracle layoffs: Reason the 6AM email from “Oracle leadership” told thousands of laid-off employees; 'After careful consideration of…
Oracle has begun its largest-ever round of layoffs, with employees receiving termination emails from “Oracle Leadership” at 6AM saying their roles had been eliminated after “careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs.” Around 10,000 employees have reportedly been cut so far, with estimates suggesting the total could reach 30,000. The email gave employees a narrow window to act before systems were deactivated.

Oracle’s largest-ever round of layoffs didn’t come with a phone call, a meeting, or a conversation with a manager. It came as an email. Sent from “Oracle Leadership” at 6AM in the US (3:30 PM IST), the message opened with five words that thousands of employees woke up to on March 31: “We are sharing some difficult news.” The email informed employees their roles had been eliminated as part of a “broader organizational change” following what Oracle called a “careful consideration” of its business needs. The next line was blunt—”today is your last working day.” No transition period, no buffer. Some 10,000 people are believed to have lost their jobs so far, according to a employees who’ve been tracking a drop in staff active on Oracle’s internal Slack. TD Cowen estimates the total could reach 20,000 to 30,000—roughly 18% of Oracle’s 162,000-strong workforce.

The email asked employees to act fast—before losing access to everything

After a one-line expression of gratitude for their “dedication, hard work, and impact,” the email moved straight to logistics. Employees were told they’d be eligible for a severance package, but only after signing termination paperwork sent via DocuSign to their Oracle email. The clock was already ticking, though. The email warned that access to computers, email, voicemail, and files would be “deactivated soon”—giving employees a narrow window to act. They were asked to immediately submit a personal email address through a linked form so Oracle could send FAQs and separation documents. The email also carried a firm reminder: employees are “prohibited from downloading, copying or retaining” any Oracle confidential information, including emailing files to themselves.CNBC confirmed the layoffs were in the thousands, citing two people familiar with the matter. Michael Shepherd, a senior Oracle manager who was not affected, wrote on LinkedIn that the cuts hit “senior engineers, architects, operations leaders, program managers, and technical specialists” and were not based on performance. Posts on Reddit’s r/employeesOfOracle and Blind painted a similar picture, with teams across Oracle Health, Cloud, Sales, Customer Success, NetSuite IDC, RHS, and SVOS all affected.

No HR, no manager, no conversation—just a sign-off from ‘Oracle Leadership’

The email ended with a thank-you and directed questions to Oracle’s Ask HR page or a toll-free number. No specific HR contact, no manager’s name, no explanation of why specific roles were chosen. The sign-off simply read: “Oracle Leadership.”Oracle’s stock is down 25% this year and has lost over half its value since peaking in September 2025. The company has taken on $58 billion in new debt in two months to fund its AI data centre buildout, and executives have said the investment will pay off over time. Oracle declined to comment on the layoffs.

Eight nuclear and space scientists behind America’s most classified secrets have vanished or died: Inside the mystery of the missing and the dead |

Left to right: Monica Jacinto Reza, Nuno Loureiro, William Neil McCasland, and Frank Maiwald — among the scientists linked to sensitive US defence and research programmes

Between July 2024 and February 2026, a sequence of disappearances and deaths involving individuals connected to sensitive US nuclear, aerospace, and advanced research programmes has drawn quiet but persistent attention. Eight figures, ranging from a senior rocket engineer and a retired Air Force general to laboratory staff and leading researchers, have either vanished without a trace or died in circumstances that range from unexplained to clearly criminal. At first glance, the cases appear to form a pattern, particularly given their proximity to high-security work. Yet a closer examination reveals a far more complex picture: a mix of genuine mysteries, crimes and ambiguous deaths, all increasingly woven together by speculation that often moves faster than verified evidence.

A timeline of scientist deaths and disappearances

The chronology of events has played a major role in shaping the narrative. The sequence begins on July 4, 2024, when NASA-affiliated scientist Frank Maiwald died in Los Angeles at the age of 61. Maiwald had spent decades at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory working on advanced space instrumentation and planetary detection systems, including research aimed at identifying signs of life on worlds like Europa and Enceladus. His death initially drew little public scrutiny, but the absence of a disclosed cause and reports that no autopsy was conducted later raised questions.Nearly a year later, on May 4, 2025, Anthony Chavez, a former Los Alamos National Laboratory employee, disappeared while out walking in New Mexico. Chavez had been associated with one of the United States’ most sensitive research environments, where work often intersects with nuclear science, national security and classified technologies. With no phone or wallet on him and no confirmed sightings since, his case quietly remained unresolved.

Anthony Chavez

The situation intensified in June 2025. On June 22 at around 9:10 a.m., Monica Jacinto Reza, a senior aerospace engineer and former Technical Fellow at Aerojet Rocketdyne, vanished while hiking near Mount Waterman in California. Reza was a leading figure in advanced rocket propulsion materials, co-inventing a nickel-based superalloy used in next-generation engines designed to reduce reliance on foreign propulsion systems. Despite an extensive search lasting until June 30, involving helicopters, drones and canine units, no trace of her was ever found. Just four days later, on June 26 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Melissa Casias was last seen walking alone along State Road 518 in New Mexico. Casias worked as an administrative professional at Los Alamos National Laboratory, placing her within a high-security scientific ecosystem tied to nuclear and defence research. Her disappearance stood out not only for its suddenness but for the discovery that her phones had been left behind and wiped clean.By late 2025 and early 2026, the list expanded further. Jason Thomas, who disappeared on December 12, 2025, had been serving as assistant director of chemical biology at Novartis, a senior role in pharmaceutical research involving complex biochemical systems. His body was later found on March 17, 2026. Around the same time, on December 15, 2025, Nuno Loureiro, director of the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center and a globally recognised expert in plasma physics and fusion energy, was shot and died the following day. Carl Grillmair, a Caltech astrophysicist known for his work on galactic structures, stellar streams and asteroid tracking, was killed on February 16, 2026. Less than two weeks later, on February 27, retired Air Force General William Neil McCasland vanished without a trace. McCasland had previously commanded the Air Force Research Laboratory and overseen advanced space and defence programmes, placing him at the highest levels of US military science and technology.

The missing: Cases with no clear answers

Among all eight individuals, four cases remain particularly troubling due to the complete lack of resolution. Monica Jacinto Reza’s disappearance during what should have been a routine hike remains one of the most baffling. As a senior aerospace engineer deeply involved in cutting-edge propulsion systems and materials science, her work sat at the intersection of innovation and national security. She was last seen behaving normally, and yet vanished in a matter of minutes in an area that was thoroughly searched, leaving investigators with no physical evidence to follow.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department

Monica Reza, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

Melissa Casias’s disappearance is equally puzzling, though for different reasons. While her role at Los Alamos National Laboratory was administrative, it still placed her within one of the most tightly controlled scientific institutions in the United States, where even support staff operate within secure environments. The wiping of her phones introduces an element that investigators have not publicly explained. Combined with her leaving home without essential belongings and being spotted miles away alone, the case stands out as behaviourally unusual.William Neil McCasland’s disappearance adds another layer due to his seniority and background. As a former commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory, he had oversight of highly advanced and often classified aerospace and defence projects. Leaving behind all personal devices but taking a firearm suggests a deliberate decision, yet no trace of his movements has been uncovered despite extensive search efforts. His profile makes his disappearance one of the most sensitive in the list.Anthony Chavez’s case is quieter but no less unresolved. As a former employee of Los Alamos National Laboratory, he had been part of an institution historically central to nuclear weapons development and national security research. His disappearance shares similarities with others, particularly the absence of personal items and the lack of any subsequent sightings or evidence, reinforcing the sense that some of these cases, while different on the surface, may share deeper unanswered questions.

Deaths that raise questions but lack clarity

Not all cases involve disappearance, but some deaths remain difficult to fully contextualise. Frank Maiwald’s passing in 2024 continues to draw attention due to the lack of publicly available details. His recent work on technologies aimed at detecting life beyond Earth adds an additional layer of intrigue, even though no evidence suggests foul play.Jason Thomas’s case, while officially not considered suspicious, still contributes to the broader narrative. His disappearance and later recovery from a lake, combined with known personal struggles, present a tragic but largely explained scenario. However, its timing alongside other incidents has led to its inclusion in wider discussions. In contrast, some observers argue that dismissing these cases as isolated incidents may overlook deeper patterns. They suggest that even events with apparent personal motives do not necessarily rule out broader connections, particularly when individuals are linked to sensitive scientific or defence work. According to this view, the convergence of timelines, professional backgrounds and unusual circumstances raises questions that cannot be fully explained by coincidence alone. Supporters of this perspective also point to the limited public information in several cases, arguing that gaps in transparency leave room for possibilities that have yet to be explored or disclosed.

Real overlaps that keep the mystery alive

Despite the lack of a single explanation, certain overlaps between cases are real and noteworthy. Several individuals were connected to institutions such as Los Alamos National Laboratory or to defence-related research networks. Monica Reza and William McCasland, in particular, shared indirect professional links through advanced propulsion and Air Force research structures. There are also behavioural similarities that stand out. Multiple individuals disappeared while outdoors and without their phones or tracking devices, a detail that has drawn repeated attention. While these overlaps may be coincidental, they are significant enough to sustain ongoing interest and concern.

The conspiracy layer: where speculation takes over

It is within these overlaps and gaps in information that conspiracy theories have flourished. One line of speculation suggests the possibility of foreign intelligence agencies targeting individuals connected to sensitive technologies. While such concerns are not inherently implausible, no evidence has been presented to confirm such activity in these cases.Another layer involves claims related to unidentified aerial phenomena and alleged classified programmes. These theories often cite McCasland’s name appearing in leaked communications and attempt to link it to a broader narrative of secrecy. However, these claims largely originate from non-official sources and remain unverified.Social media has amplified these ideas by presenting the cases as interconnected, often ignoring key differences or confirmed explanations. This has created a perception of a coordinated pattern that does not fully align with the available evidence.

A fragmented mystery, not a single story

The most grounded interpretation is that this is not one unified mystery, but several overlapping stories. Four cases remain genuinely unresolved and deserve continued investigation, particularly given their connection to sensitive fields. At the same time, other cases have clear explanations that do not support the idea of a broader pattern. What emerges is a fragmented narrative shaped as much by unanswered questions as by speculation. The absence of definitive answers in some cases ensures that the story remains open, but the evidence so far points toward complexity rather than conspiracy.

Golf icon Tiger Woods was heard telling a deputy, “I was just talking to the president,” moments after crashing his SUV last week, according to newly released body camera footage of his arrest on DUI charges. The footage, captured after the March 27 crash on Jupiter Island, does not confirm who Woods was referring to. However, speculation has linked the remark to Donald Trump, who later expressed concern, calling Woods a “very close friend” and “an amazing man” dealing with “some difficulty.”

As per an AP report, authorities said Woods admitted he was distracted while driving. “I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden — boom,” he told an officer, describing how his speeding SUV clipped a truck and rolled onto its side. No injuries were reported. The video shows Woods appearing disoriented during questioning — hiccupping, yawning and repeatedly nodding off in the patrol car. When informed of his arrest, a stunned Woods asked, “I’m being arrested?” to which the deputy replied, “Yes, sir.”Deputy Tatiana Levenar, who conducted the sobriety test, concluded: “I do believe your normal faculties are impaired… you’re under arrest for DUI.” A search of Woods’ pockets revealed two pills, which he identified as Norco, a prescription painkiller containing hydrocodone.Woods insisted he had not consumed alcohol. “I’m not drunk. I’m on prescription medication,” he later told officers, admitting he had taken “a few” medications earlier in the day. A Breathalyzer test showed no alcohol, though he refused a urine test — now a misdemeanor under Florida law.The 50-year-old, who has pleaded not guilty, cited a long history of injuries during the roadside test, including multiple back and leg surgeries that affected his balance.Widely regarded as one of golf’s greatest figures, Woods has battled persistent injuries in recent years and has not played competitively since the The Open Championship in 2024. Following the incident, he announced he would step away indefinitely to focus on his health.
