Cloudflare outage disrupts stock trades at new age cos

MUMBAI: Most tech-driven financial services platforms faced outages during Friday’s high-intensity late session due to tech-glitch at Cloudflare, one of the companies that runs the internet globally. Traders in India faced issues with trade execution and cancellations on a day when the RBI policy and weekend considerations led to higher trading intensity than most other days. The issue was resolved after about an hour’s disruption, before the markets closed regular trading at 3.30pm.Among the leading tech-driven financial services platforms that were affected were Zerodha, Groww and Angel One. Most brokers faced issues with their web portal. Tech-related issues with their trading apps were limited, market players said.

Cloudflare down: OpenAI, Twitter, Spotify, Canva, Claude and other big businesses that Cloudflare outage ‘disrupted’

This was the second major tech-issue in less than a month for Cloudflare, the company that powers 20-25% of global internet traffic, reports said. Zerodha asked its clients to use its WhatsApp channel for their trading activities during the Cloudflare outage. “Today, (Cloudflare) had a brief outage that affected Kite along with numerous other brokers, fintech platforms, and online services worldwide,” Nithin Kamath, co-founder, Zerodha said on X (formerly Twitter). Kite is the interface on Zerodha’s stock trading platform. “This is why we built Kite Backup on WhatsApp. This system is independent of our primary systems. When external outages impact Kite, you can still exit your positions through WhatsApp,” Kamath said in the post.

RBI clarifies IMF’s remarks on its data

MUMBAI: RBI deputy governor Poonam Gupta has responded to recent IMF comments questioning the quality of India’s growth data and classifying the rupee’s exchange rate regime as a “crawling peg” within a managed float system. On the concern regarding data quality, Gupta said that the IMF’s critique is more procedural than substantive. “The point that they’re making on what is perceived to be the quality of our statistics is a very limited one,” she said, stressing that the IMF’s taxonomy focuses on whether statistical data submissions have gaps that affect surveillance and not on disputing the inherent quality or “sanctity of the numbers” themselves. On IMF’s classification of the Indian rupee’s exchange rate regime, Gupta offered context on the broader global framework, and said, “I would not read much into it. It’s just based on cross-country comparison of India having this much volatility compared to some other countries.” She said India remains firmly in the managed float category like most emerging markets.

New Delhi: India and Russia on Friday vowed to scale up bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030, with PM Narendra Modi saying the target could be ach-ieved “well ahead of schedule”.“Considering the tremendous potential in our partnership, I am confident that we will achieve this target well ahead of schedule. We are making rapid progress towards this goal,” Modi said, recalling the target of $100 billion that he and President Vladimir Putin had set last year. The two leaders were speaking at the India-Russia Business Forum.Modi said India and Russia could jointly drive growth in the Global South with India’s leadership in affordable EVs, two-wheelers and CNG mobility and Russia’s strength in advanced materials, and could collaborate in vaccine development, cancer therapy and automotive components. The PM said both countries were “actively working” towards the early conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union – comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.Putin said Moscow wanted to deepen cooperation across security, economy, trade and culture. “What we want is the development of our multi-faceted relations with India in various fields,” he said. Russian companies, he added, were ready to “increase manifold” their purchases of Indian goods and services. He stressed that free trade would require resilient payment systems and insurance mechanisms, an issue that has complicated settlements since financial sanctions on Russia. Putin said Russia was looking to expand energy cooperation with India and ready to ensure uninterrupted fuel shipments. Moscow, he said, was open to joint work on small modular reactors and even floating nuclear power plants. He also wanted to enhance industrial cooperation with a focus on new technologies such as AI.The first round of talks on FTA between India and the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union began last week. India wants to increase the composition of products in its trade basket with Russia as India exported goods worth $4.9 billion to Russia in 2024-25, while importing goods worth $63.8 billion, primarily crude oil and petroleum products, with a trade imbalance of $59 billion.

This favorable weather follows yesterday’s ‘poor’ air quality, which registered an AQI of 158, prompting advisories for sensitive individuals to carry masks during peak traffic hours due to lingering pollution. The city is anticipated to experience a consistently warm and dry week ahead, with clear skies and moderate temperatures, although continued vigilance regarding air quality in high-traffic zones is still recommended.

Today’s Weather Details

Humidity levels are moderate at 49%, contributing to a comfortably warm rather than sticky feel throughout the day.Gentle winds are expected to blow at approximately 16.2 km/h, providing a refreshing touch. Sunshine will be dominant, with no chances of rain or cloudy interruptions, making it an excellent day for various outdoor activities.A cool evening is anticipated post-sunset, creating an ideal atmosphere for a relaxed stroll or a late-night hangout.

Yesterday’s Air Quality Concerns

Yesterday, Mumbai’s air quality was officially classified as ‘poor’ according to Indian standards, recording an AQI of 158. This level of pollution was a cause for concern for the city’s residents. The primary pollutants identified were PM2.5 and PM10, with concentrations reaching 78 and 100 micrograms per cubic meter, respectively. Carbon monoxide levels were also elevated, measured at 280 micrograms per cubic meter. This pollution spike was likely attributed to vehicular emissions and ongoing construction activities within the city. Such conditions could have caused mild discomfort for individuals with respiratory issues.

Recommendations for Today

Today’s clear weather conditions may assist in dispersing some of the accumulated pollutants from the atmosphere. However, it is still considered wise to exercise caution.Sensitive groups are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to high-traffic areas without wearing a mask. The lingering pollution might still affect these individuals.Given the pleasant weather and moderate pollution levels, today presents an ideal opportunity for engaging in outdoor activities. Morning walks or jogs are highly recommended due to the cool and sunny conditions. For those planning to be out during peak traffic hours, wearing a mask can help minimize exposure to residual pollutants. Hydration remains a key recommendation, especially for individuals spending extended periods outdoors.

Winds will maintain a steady presence, offering a comforting breeze throughout each day.The skies are forecast to remain clear, with no rain anticipated in the forecast for the upcoming week.December 7 and 8 are expected to see slightly lower humidity levels, making them particularly suitable days for outdoor plans. By mid-week, a slight dip in nighttime temperatures will contribute to cooler evenings. These cooler evenings will be perfect for relaxed outings and social gatherings.

Air Quality Improvement Trend

Yesterday’s AQI of 158, though still categorized as poor, marks a slight improvement when compared to earlier this week. The city had previously grappled with ‘very poor’ air quality. The sustained clear weather anticipated over the coming days could further aid in improving air conditions across Mumbai. ‘Dhurandhar’ review

An excerpt from our review of the film reads, “A fictional narrative inspired by true incidents, Aditya Dhar’s action drama follows Hamza (Ranveer Singh), a mysterious Indian agent who embeds himself deep within Karachi’s mafia network (Lyari gangwar) to dismantle terror operations from the inside. Structured across multiple chapters, the world-building is deliberate and immersive, pulling you into a gritty, violent universe that unfolds over nearly 3.5 hours. Yet, the runtime rarely feels overbearing thanks to Dhar’s stylish, tight storytelling.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
