NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will file a chargesheet in the Pahalgam terror attack case before a special court in Jammu on Monday, officials said. The probe agency’s investigation has found the direct involvement of three terrorists in the April 22 attack, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistan-based terrorists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran area.Earlier in June, the NIA arrested two men for allegedly harbouring the three terrorists. The accused, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar of Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Pahalgam, are accused of providing food, shelter and logistical support to the attackers, officials said.During questioning, the two men disclosed that the attackers were Pakistani nationals linked to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The three terrorists were later killed by security forces in an encounter on July 28 on the outskirts of Srinagar under operation code-named “Operation Mahadev”.The April 22 strike at Baisaran was the deadliest terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack. In response to the attack, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes on May 7 under “Operation Sindoor“, targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation hit nine locations, including headquarters and training centres of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed, from where terror attacks against India were planned and directed.
Jimmy Neesham has signed up for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. (ILT20)
NEW DELHI: Since the introduction of the “Impact Player” rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023, it has received mixed reactions. Former India head coach Rahul Dravid and captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli see it as disrupting the game’s balance and harming the development of all-rounders. Legends like Ricky Ponting and Jonty Rhodes have also raised concerns. In the ongoing ILT20, New Zealand and Dubai Capitals all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has joined the bandwagon by making a scathing remark on the rule, calling it “stupid,” and wished for it to be removed from T20 leagues to give players time to prepare. The all-rounder admitted he was caught off-guard when the opportunity to feature in the contest against Gulf Giants presented itself earlier this season. The reason for that, he believes, is in the Impact Player rule which doesn’t help a player in being ready in advance.
Gulbadin Naib Interview: On struggle, money from cricket, playing ILT20 and more
“It’s a stupid rule. It doesn’t work in the IPL. I don’t know why we still have it, to be honest. It stops players from being able to prepare properly for the game. You obviously can’t ever get a proper training day before the game if you think you’re not playing because there’s a chance that you could have to be roped into the XI at the last minute. So, you can’t really develop your game,” Neesham told TimesofIndia.com in an interaction organised by the Dubai Capitals.“It disincentivises players from working on parts of the game that they’re not strong at. It means you can be a terrible fielder and it doesn’t matter. So, I think overall, it’s a crap rule. Hopefully, it’s gone soon.“Example, if you’re a young cricketer coming through, why would you work on your fielding? Because if you’re a crap fielder, you just don’t field. You just go off the field. It’s stupid,” he continued.
It disincentivises players from working on parts of the game that they’re not strong at. It means you can be a terrible fielder and it doesn’t matter. So, I think overall, it’s a crap rule.
Jimmy Neesham on Impact Player rule
The latest outing in the ILT20 took Neesham’s tally of playing in sanctioned T20 leagues to 10. On the whole, he’s represented over 30 teams in his career. Having declined a central contract with New Zealand Cricket in September 2022, Neesham has become a “T20 freelancer.”Since September 2022, he’s played for 10 teams in seven leagues, including most recently in Nepal, as well as 45 T20Is for New Zealand. The focus now is on the ILT20, five T20Is against India in January followed by the T20I World Cup in February-March.“Well, I’m 35 now, so sort of getting towards the back end of my career. We’ve got a T20 World Cup coming up in February, which is potentially going to be my last international assignment. And then from then on, it’s just about managing the schedule, managing my body, trying to eke out as many games as possible towards the back end and try and contribute to as many teams as possible,” said the Kiwi who is inching towards 100 T20Is, a list that includes only five of his compatriots.
Jimmy Neesham, not part of New Zealand Cricket’s central contract’s list, played in Nepal Premier League recently. (Instagram)
“Nepal was great. It’s obviously great to see a young cricket nation sort of developing and creating its own T20 league. And then also we’re going to have our own franchise T20 competition in New Zealand from next season as well. So there’s still plenty on the diet for the next few years. And I’m excited to sort of see how it all ends up,” he continued.Neesham stressed that “no one is forcing anyone to play” amid suggestions that the life of a T20 freelancer could lead to burnout. He made clear that this is the period to push with T20 World Cup on the horizon before getting the chance to put the feet up during the New Zealand off-season.Away from the field, Neesham is one of the few athletes who are known to give it back to the numerous social media trolls. With vitriol aplenty, Neesham’s sarcastic responses have shut down anonymous provocateurs.“It’s a shame that people behave the way they do on social media. I think it’s a powerful tool for athletes to connect with fans and share another side of themselves. And I think it’s always a pity when you see the abuse and the trolling and all that kind of things that happen on social media as sort of just the nature of how the world works currently. But you’ve got to have a thick skin and be able to shrug those things off,” he clarified while acknowledging that he does block plenty of people for their harsh comments.
Goa nightclub owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra have been detained in Thailand for illegal stay and are being deported to India
NEW DELHI: The Indian Embassy in Bangkok is in close coordination with Thai authorities following the detention of Goa nightclub owners Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra in Phuket, sources said to news agency ANI. The duo, owners of the now-charred nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane in Goa’s Arpora, are currently in Thai custody and are being processed for deportation to India in accordance with local laws. A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation arrived in Phuket on Saturday to complete formalities related to the brothers’ return. The Indian embassy is issuing emergency certificates, one-way travel documents to facilitate their deportation after their Indian passports were suspended by the Union government, officials confirmed. Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant told The Times of India that the investigative team had reached Thailand and that the process to bring the Luthra brothers back was underway. Goa DGP Alok Kumar also said the duo was expected to be in India next week. The Luthra brothers were detained by Thai authorities last week after it emerged that they were staying in the country illegally. They had fled India just hours after a massive fire broke out at their nightclub in Arpora on the night of December 6, even as police and fire personnel were still battling the blaze and rescuing trapped patrons. Following their departure, the regional passport office in New Delhi issued notices to both brothers, seeking explanations on why action should not be initiated to impound their passports. Soon after a lookout notice was issued, the Ministry of External Affairs moved to suspend their travel documents, rendering their stay in Thailand unlawful and prompting local authorities to detain them. India and Thailand have a formal extradition treaty, signed in 2013 and in force since June 29, 2015. While the current process involves deportation rather than extradition, officials said the treaty provides a robust legal framework for cooperation in such cases. Meanwhile, the Goa police investigation into the devastating fire at Birch by Romeo Lane has revealed glaring regulatory lapses. Investigators found that the nightclub had been operating illegally for nearly 18 months without mandatory permissions and on an expired licence. A senior officer involved in the probe said the licence had not been renewed because the establishment failed to obtain required clearances since 2024. So far, several arrests have been made in connection with the case. These include Gurgaon resident Ajay Gupta (55), a business partner of the Luthra brothers; New Delhi natives Rajiv Modak (49), the club’s chief general manager, and Priyanshu Thakur (32), the gate manager; Uttar Pradesh natives Rajveer Singhania (32), bar manager, and Vivek Singh (27), general manager; and Delhi-based Bharat Kohli. According to police, more than 150 tourists were inside the nightclub when the fire broke out around 11.45 pm during a weekend event. A preliminary probe by the police and the directorate of fire services concluded that electric firecrackers used during the event struck the wooden ceiling, triggering the blaze that rapidly engulfed the premises and claimed 25 lives. Goa police continue to record statements of government officials, fire department personnel and others as the investigation widens, even as efforts intensify to bring the main accused back to India to face criminal proceedings.
NEW DELHI: Suryakumar Yadav may be short of runs, but India’s T20I captain remains firm in his belief that form is not the issue. After another modest outing in India’s seven-wicket win over South Africa in the third T20I on Sunday, Suryakumar acknowledged the lean patch but insisted it was only a matter of time before the runs returned.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!Suryakumar scored 12 off 11 balls before falling to Lungi Ngidi, extending a difficult run that has seen him struggle for consistency. Barring a fluent 75 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 24 and an unbeaten 47 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in September, runs have been hard to come by. The sequence has now dragged on for 21 innings and has pushed his T20I average in 2025 down to 14.20, with two matches still left in the series.
Ashish Nehra interview: Gujarat Titans head coach backs out of form Shubman Gill
Yet, the skipper struck an optimistic note at the post-match presentation. “I’ve been batting beautifully in the nets. When the runs have to come, they’ll come. Not out of form, definitely out of runs,” Suryakumar said, brushing aside concerns over his personal returns.More than individual numbers, Suryakumar underlined India’s response after their defeat in the second T20I. “I think this sport teaches you a lot of things. How you come back into the series is more important,” he said. “We wanted to go back to basics, do the same things we were doing in Cuttack, and the results were on our side.” He added that lessons from the loss in New Chandigarh were addressed collectively. “The bowlers sat together, we had a good team meeting as well.”

Do you believe Suryakumar Yadav is capable of regaining his form in upcoming matches?
India’s bowlers set up the victory, led by player of the match Arshdeep Singh, who returned to his “tried and tested basic methods” after an ordinary previous game. “It was one off day… so it feels nice to do this,” Arshdeep said, dedicating the Man-of-the-Match award to his 10-month-old niece watching from the stands.South Africa skipper Aiden Markram credited India’s pacers for dismantling the top order early, while also acknowledging Abhishek Sharma’s brisk 18-ball 35 that put the chase beyond reach. Varun Chakravarthy, who struck twice in the middle overs, said honest conversations after the last match helped India regroup.
The two gunmen responsible for the Bondi Beach shooting that targeted Sydney’s Jewish community have been identified as a father and son, Naveed and Sajid Akram. The attack left 15 people dead, including a child, leaving dozens injured. The massacre is being treated as an act of terrorism.24-year-old Naveed Akram was apprehended at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he remains under police guard in a critical but stable condition. His father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, who owned a fruit shop, was killed during the shooting, reports the Sunday Morning Herald. Authorities say the pair had told family members they were going on a weekend fishing trip to Jervis Bay before carrying out the attack. The attack unfolded on Sunday when the two men opened fire from a pedestrian footbridge near Campbell Parade. Crowds of locals, tourists, and participants of the Chanukah by the Sea festival were caught in the attack. Witnesses reported loud bangs, injured people, and a frantic rush as beachgoers fled for their lives. Also read: ‘You fuel antisemitism’: Netanyahu hits out at Australian PM; blames Palestine recognition for Bondi Beach shootingA civilian hero named Ahmed tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen before police could intervene. The brave bystander crouched behind a car, approached the attacker, and wrestled the weapon away, forcing the gunman to retreat until he was later apprehended. The second gunman, Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police.Authorities are investigating how the pair obtained high-powered weapons and whether there were any accomplices. Police also discovered improvised explosive devices (IEDin the shooters’ vehicle and conducted raids across Sydney, including Naveed Akram’s home in Bonnyrigg. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack as an “act of evil anti-Semitism” and pledged to eradicate such violence, emphasising national unity and support for Australia’s Jewish community.
NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Monday expelled former MLA Mohammed Moquim from the party days after he wrote to Sonia Gandhi urging the removal of party president Mallikarjun Kharge on the grounds that “age is not on his side.” Congress cited “anti-party activities” as the reason behind his expulsion, however, it refrained from specifying such acts.“This is for the information of all concerned that AICC has approved the proposal for the expulsion of Sri Md. Moquim from the primary membership of the party, due to anti-party activities,” the notice issued by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) said.Moquim had written to Sonia, urging her that the party should consider bringing forward “young leaders”, adding that the Grand Old Party was going through a “difficult phase”.“I have written a letter to Sonia Gandhi stating that the party is going through a difficult phase and needs her advice and new leadership… Age is not on AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge’s side… We should bring forward young leaders. I know that Sonia ji and the CWC members will definitely discuss this…. Nuapada by-elections were concerning,” he had said. The 60-year-old received criticism for the letter as OPCC chief Bhakta Das went on to equate his remarks as one aligned with the BJP.“Those who challenge the party leadership should immediately join the BJP,” he said on Sunday.
What the letter said
Addressed to Sonia Gandhi, Moquim’s letter pointed out party’s recent electoral defeats in Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra and Kashmir and blamed a “series of wrong decisions, misguided leadership choices”.“The recent outcomes in Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Kashmir, where our defeats were by staggering margins, are not just electoral setbacks; they reflect a deeper organisational disconnect,” the letter said.“A series of wrong decisions, misguided leadership choices, and the continued concentration of responsibility in the wrong hands have weakened the Party from within. Rather than correcting these errors, we appear to be repeating them and the consequences are now visible to the entire nation,” the letter added. The letter further questioned whether the “responsibilities being entrusted to the right people”.“Painful questions are being raised: Are decisions being made with seriousness? Are responsibilities being entrusted to the right people? Does the leadership fully grasp the gravity of this crisis, or are we allowing the Party’s decline to continue unchecked, with decisions remaining in the wrong hands?” he questioned. The Bharatiya Janata Party was quick to react to the “internal rift” with Shehzad Poonawalla saying, “Team Priyanka vs team Rahul out in the open now Internal rift in Congress out! Senior Congress leader from Odisha Writes to Sonia Gandhi: Says Kharge Hatao ,Priyanka Lao;Hits out at state and central leadership Odisha leader Mohammed Moquim has questioned the leadership crisis nationally and called for deep structural, organisational and ideological renewal for the party’s revival. He notes a “deep and growing disconnect” between the Congress leadership and Indian youth, saying that under the current leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, who is 83, the party has been unable to resonate with the youth.”
Moquim’s past controversies
This was not Moquim’s first brush with controversy. He was suspended on July 15, 2023, for questioning Pattanaik’s leadership, a decision that was later withdrawn on January 23, 2024, ahead of the simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, he had received a show-cause notice for cross-voting in support of NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu in July 2022. The former Barabati–Cuttack MLA, who was elected for the first time and whose seat is now held by his daughter Sofia Firdous, was disqualified from contesting the 2024 elections after being convicted in a state vigilance case on September 29, 2022.

The Right To Match (RTM) card has been traditionally used in mega auctions and it is not to be used in the upcoming mini auction.
Unsold Players Rule and accelerated rounds:
If a player goes unsold in the auction, he can still find a buyer in the accelerated rounds that happens towards the end of the event. The accelerated phase takes place based on the number of slots remaining and the purse left.
Before the accelerated phase, all the 10 teams will submit a list of the remaining players. After the names are submitted, those players will be introduced into the auction for the accelerated round for bidding. Players who have not been shortlisted will not go under the hammer.

According to the present rules, the IPL teams can sign a replacement player until their 12th league match. Earlier, the teams were only allowed to do it until their 7th league match.

The replacement player must already be listed in the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) for that season.

Pakistan fell short in their chase, getting dismissed for 150 runs in 41.2 overs while pursuing a target of 241.Indian captain Mhatre provided a quick start, hitting four boundaries and three sixes in his 25-ball innings before Mohammad Sayyam removed both openers within the first 10 overs.Aaron George anchored the innings effectively, finding regular boundaries and providing stability. Chouhan’s late contribution, including three sixes, helped India reach 230 despite regular wicket falls.Pakistan’s bowling effort was led by Sayyam taking 3 wickets for 67 runs and Abdul Subhan claiming 3 for 42. Niqab Shafiq supported with two wickets.Pakistan’s chase started poorly as they lost four wickets for just 30 runs, with Devendran taking three quick wickets.Captain Farhan Yousaf scored 23 runs and partnered with Huzaifa Ahsan before Chouhan’s off-spin broke their partnership. Ahsan top-scored with 70 runs from 83 balls but couldn’t find support from other batsmen.Chouhan finished with 3 wickets for 33 runs, while Devendran took 3 wickets for 16 runs, helping India maintain control throughout the match.Following the protocol observed during the recent Asia Cup 2025, where Indian players declined to receive the winner’s trophy from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, players from both teams didn’t shake hands at the toss or after the match.
