India U19’s humiliating loss in U19 Asia Cup 2025 Final leaves coach Sunil Joshi in tears

Pakistan U19 produced a masterclass performance to crush India U19 by a massive 191 runs in the final and clinch the U19 Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai on Sunday (December 21). This is Pakistan’s second U19 Asia Cup title and their first since 2013, when they jointly won the cup with India.

The U19 Asia Cup 2025 final was dominated by Pakistan U19 from the very start against India U19. Sameer Minhas was the star of their title triumph in Dubai. After being asked to bat first by India U19, Pakistan set a huge target of 347/8 in 50 overs, thanks to Minhas’ sensational knock of 172 runs off just 113 balls.

Sameer Minhas’ 172 powers Pakistan to second U19 Asia Cup title

He raced to his century in only 71 balls and created history by registering the highest individual score ever in an U19 Asia Cup final. Ahmed Hussain was also impressive, hitting an excellent 56 and adding 137 runs with Minhas to help Pakistan post a formidable total on the board.

Chasing the target, India U19 had a terrible star, as they lost five wickets inside the first 10 overs, including captain Ayush Mhatre and batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The top-order collapse put India on the back foot, and the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t handle the pressure.

Sarfaraz Ahmed behind India’s disaster!!

Deepesh Devendran showed great courage by playing a blistering knock of 36 runs off 16 balls, but they had already lost the match much before. India was eventually bowled out for just 156 runs, handing Pakistan a commanding 191-run victory in the summit clash in Dubai.

The U19 Asia Cup 2025 final brought back the memories of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, where Pakistan had suffered heavy defeat in the group stages against India but came back strongly to win the final in England.

Interestingly, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan’s Champions Trophy-winning captain, is now mentoring this U19 side, making this victory more special for them.

What Sameer Minhas Said After Final?

After the match, Sameer Minhas was named both the Player of the Match for his incredible 172 in the final and Player of the Tournament for being the leading run scorer with 471 runs in just five games.

Minhas said after winning the awards, “It was a good innings by me; I only had in mind to score runs for the team. There was no such pressure for me; I only wanted to play my natural game and did so. We wanted to bat first because it was like a batting track. Very memorable for me.”

Sunil Joshi left heartbroken after India U19 suffers embarrassing defeat in U19 Asia Cup 2025 Final

On the other hand, India’s ultra-aggressive approach backfired in the big match. The top-order’s risky shots and the inability to build partnerships under pressure led to the team’s collapse. It was the second-largest defeat by runs in an U19 Asia Cup final.

The heartbreak was visible in the Indian camp, with the coach and support staff deeply affected by the heavy defeat. A picture is making rounds on social media, where India U19 head coach Sunil Joshi was seen in tears following the heartbreaking end of their campaign in the UAE.

Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant innings to help India register a comfortable win over Sri Lanka in the first Women’s T20 International on Sunday. She remained unbeaten on 69 runs from 44 balls, showcasing great control and confidence throughout her knock. Her performance helped India win the match by eight wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. India chose to field first and did well to restrict Sri Lanka to 121 runs for six wickets. The Sri Lankan batters found it difficult to score freely, even when they were given loose balls. Dew arrived earlier than expected, but the Indian bowlers adjusted well and kept things under control. During the chase, India made light work of the target and finished the match with 32 balls still remaining. Jemimah Rodrigues played the anchor role and built important partnerships. She added 54 runs with Smriti Mandhana, who scored 25 runs off 25 balls, and later shared a 55-run stand with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who stayed not out on 15 off 16 balls. Rodrigues played several classy shots, but the standout moment of her innings came when she smashed four boundaries in a single over bowled by left-arm wrist spinner Shashini Gimhani. That over tilted the game firmly in India’s favour. India’s innings began aggressively, with Shafali Verma hitting three boundaries in the very first over. However, she could not stay long at the crease and was dismissed soon after. Mandhana had a few lucky moments early on but settled well before becoming the latest batter to cross 4,000 T20I runs. Her innings was cut short by Inoka Ranaweera, but by then India was well in control. Earlier, Sri Lanka’s innings was held together by opener Vishmi Gunaratne, who top-scored with 39 runs off 43 balls. Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama also contributed with small but useful scores. India’s bowlers remained disciplined despite the wet ball. Deepti Sharma bowled economically, while debutant Vaishnavi Sharma impressed on her international debut with a tight four-over spell, conceding just 16 runs.

Delhi airport assault: Air India Express pilot alleges casteist abuse; claims passenger threatened family

NEW DELHI: Air India Express Captain Virender Sejwal, who got into a brawl with a passenger, Ankit Dewan, at Delhi airport‘s Terminal 1 last Friday, has accused the latter of making “casteist remarks” and issuing “absolutely unfathomable threats to female members of his family, including a child.” In a statement on the pilot’s behalf on Sunday, his advocate Sonali Karwasra Joon said: “Ankit Dewan initiated the confrontation by verbally abusing Captain Sejwal without provocation and continued using abusive, degrading and threatening language even after being asked to stop. The situation escalated into a physical altercation in which Capt Sejwal was also hurt. He also sustained injuries during the scuffle. CISF personnel intervened promptly, repeatedly told Dewan to calm down and stop abusing, yet he refused to relent and continued his misconduct in their presence.”“The incident between the two was resolved in the presence of CISF officials…. Both parties ‘voluntarily signed a statement’ confirming that they did not wish to pursue any legal action. Contrary to misleading claims, Ankit Dewan signed willingly — there was no coercion or pressure involved…. Allegations of any force or bias against CISF are incorrect and unfounded,” the lawyer’s statement added. The captain, grounded by AI Express pending a probe, “has full faith in authorities that he will not be denied justice and the incident will be looked at impartially, considering all facts and without the overbearing social media narrative,” the statement said. Captain Sejwal was travelling as a passenger and “was not on flight duty, nor was the incident connected in any manner to his professional responsibilities,” it added.

‘Goonda raj’: Goons take over Kolkata’s Keoratala crematorium, harass mourners & doms; staff demand better security | Kolkata News

'Goonda raj': Goons take over Kolkata's Keoratala crematorium, harass mourners & doms; staff demand better security

KOLKATA: The Keoratala crematorium ground turns into a terror zone as darkness descends with drunk goons from adjacent neighbourhoods taking over the area and creating mayhem, locals have alleged. Such elements harass mourners for money. Some of them even get merged in the crowd of mourners and beat up doms if they refuse to ‘sponsor’ their addiction.Sources at the crematorium on Saturday said a group of drunk goons on Friday night thrashed a dom, identified as Raju Mullick. A civic staff member employed at the crematorium said the doms, after being frightened over the incident, demanded of proper security and warned of stopping work.

Kolkata Headlines Today — Key Stories You Shouldn’t Miss.

Thereafter, a group of goons barges into the cabin of the sub-registers under the pretext of a delay in arranging the cremation and threatens the KMC staff on duty with dire consequences. Earlier this week, a miscreant posing as the security guard of the crematorium demanded money from a mourner. A KMC staff member present at the crematorium sniffed a rat and handed over the miscreant to the cops. In another occasion, the security guards had to rush to the rescue of some KMC staffers after a group of drunk goons had entered the the death registration office. The goons abused the KMC staff and created ruckus while demanding to jump the queue for cremating a body. A KMC health department official blamed inaction on the part of the cops in controlling the growing ‘goonda raj’ in the crematorium area. “The police kiosk inside the crematorium appears to be non-existent with its lone police constable and civic volunteer. They hardly react in hours of crisis. Time and again we have requested the competent authorities to upgrade the security, especially at night,” said the civic official.Admitting that drunken brawls have increased in Keoratala, KMC chairperson and South Kolkata MP Mala Roy said she had asked cops not to spare anyone indulging in such acts.

Suryakumar Yadav talks about his horrible form with the bat | T20 World Cup

Overall, she is only the second woman in the world to reach this landmark. New Zealand legend Suzie Bates is the only other player to do so and currently has 4,716 runs in the format. What makes Mandhana’s record even more special is the speed at which she achieved it. She reached the 4,000-run mark in just 3,227 balls, which is faster than Suzie Bates, who took 3,675 balls to get there. This shows how consistent and attacking Mandhana has been over the years in T20 cricket. In the match against Sri Lanka, Mandhana scored 25 runs off 25 balls. She was dismissed in the ninth over while chasing a target of 122 runs. Even though her innings was short, it was enough for her to reach the historic milestone. Kerala government warns against ‘communalisation’ of schools | India News

Kerala government warns against 'communalisation' of schools

Kerala government on Sunday strongly condemned reports that some private school managements imposed restrictions on Christmas celebrations and refunded money collected from students for the event. The government also warned that schools would not be allowed to be turned into “communal laboratories”.Such actions are unheard of in a state like Kerala, which has a high level of democratic consciousness and a long-standing secular tradition, it said.“No one will be permitted to introduce the north Indian models that divide people on the basis of religion or belief in Kerala’s educational institutions,” state General Education Minister V Sivankutty told reporters here.He said schools are spaces where children learn and grow together, cutting across caste and religion, and any attempt to sow divisive ideas among students is unacceptable.Festivals such as Onam, Christmas and Eid have traditionally been celebrated together in the state schools, helping children learn mutual respect, love and coexistence, he said. The decision of certain private school managements to cancel celebrations after collecting money and then refunding them was “cruel” and amounts to hurting children. All schools, whether aided or unaided, are bound by the Constitution of India, education rules and laws of the country, and have a responsibility to uphold values of secularism, Sivankutty further said.Warning of strict action against such practices, the minister said schools would not be allowed to function as spaces to serve narrow political or communal interests.“Imposing restrictions selectively on the celebrations of any one community amounts to discrimination and will not be tolerated,” he said.Sivankutty also reaffirmed that any move that undermines the dignity and tradition of Kerala’s public education sector would not be allowed. The minister further said instructions have been given to officials to conduct an urgent inquiry into the matter and submit a report. The General Education minister also said complaints have been received from students and parents regarding the conduct of compulsory special classes in some schools during the upcoming Christmas vacation. Such classes should not be conducted during holidays, he said.
