‘You, your govt responsible for air situation’: Delhi LG writes letter to Kejriwal; cites 11 years of neglect | India News

NEW DELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Tuesday wrote to former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, holding his government responsible for the capital’s deteriorating air quality. In a 15-page letter, LG Saxena said, “11 years of neglect and criminal inaction on you and your Government’s part are responsible for the emergency air situation in the Capital”.However, Delhi is currently governed by BJP chief minister Rekha Gupta.

From Work-From-Home To Vehicle Ban- Delhi Rolls Out Fresh Pollution Curbs

Delhi LG’s letter to the former chief minister comes against the backdrop of the capital’s persistent and severe air pollution crisis. On Delhi LG VK Saxena’s letter to Kejriwal, AAP national media incharge Anurag Dhandha said, “Has the LG, who left Delhi amidst all the pollution to go to Gujarat for his own pleasure, returned? I think the pollution affecting people’s lungs in Delhi has affected the LG’s brain, and he’s lost his memory. He doesn’t remember that Arvind Kejriwal isn’t the Chief Minister anymore, but Rekha Gupta is. If he wanted to ask something about the pollution, he should have asked her... LG sir is also a ‘CameraG’. He’s very fond of being on camera… But nobody pays him any attention these days… That’s why he’s roaming around in a frenzy…”During his tenure, AAP supremo Kejriwal grappled with similar hazardous air-quality levels and, much like the BJP’s poll manifesto, had pledged an aggressive push to curb pollution in the city.In February this year, the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major setback, losing the elections to the BJP, paving the way for the saffron party to return to power in Delhi after 26 years.AAP is now reduced to governing only Punjab under chief minister Bhagwant Mann after its loss in Delhi.

NEW DELHI: The sister of the Unnao rape survivor on Tuesday criticised the Delhi high court for granting bail to convict and former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar and suspending his life sentence in the case. Also Read | Unnao rape case: Delhi HC suspends jail term of Kuldeep Sengar; sets condition for bailThe woman alleged that Sengar’s release would endanger her family’s lives.“I am not happy about this. He killed my uncle and then my father. Then this incident happened with my sister. He has been released, but we’re still in danger. He killed my uncle and then my father. He (Sengar) has been released, but we’re still in danger,” she told news agency ANI.The woman added that while the court may have released Sengar, it should at least put her family behind bars for their “safety.”“My sister is in distress. If something happens to my family, will the court take responsibility? I have a brother—who knows what they might do to him? Many of his men are roaming around outside, threatening us. If we dare file a police complaint, they will kill us. That is why we do not leave our home out of fear,” she said.Earlier on Tuesday, a Delhi high court bench comprising Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar granted conditional bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar and suspended his sentence for the duration of the pendency of his appeal challenging his December 2019 conviction and life sentence by a trial court. The conditions of his bail include furnishing a Rs 15-lakh personal bond with three sureties of the same amount, not entering within a five-kilometre radius of the survivor’s residence, and refraining from threatening or influencing her or her mother. On August 1, 2019, over two years after the ghastly June 2017 crime, the Supreme Court had transferred the rape case and other related matters from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi.Sengar’s appeal against his conviction in the case relating to the custodial death of the survivor’s father is also pending before the high court. He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in that case and has sought suspension of the sentence, citing the substantial time he has already spent in jail.

US markets today: Wall Street holds near record highs; strong GDP growth lifts bond yields

US stocks were largely steady near record levels in early trade on Tuesday after government data showed the American economy expanded at a stronger-than-expected pace in the third quarter, pushing Treasury yields higher even as equity moves stayed muted in holiday-thinned trading. The S&P 500 hovered close to its all-time high set earlier this month, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped marginally and the Nasdaq was little changed. S&P 500 little changed and trading close to the record high it touched earlier this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 27 points, or 0.1%, while the Nasdaq composite was broadly flat, AP reported. Shares of Novo Nordisk rose after US regulators cleared a pill version of its blockbuster weight-loss drug Wegovy, marking the first daily oral treatment approved for obesity. US government figures showed economic growth in the July–September quarter surprised on the upside, reinforcing the view that the economy remains resilient despite higher interest rates and slowing factory activity. The data nudged bond yields higher, reflecting expectations that the Federal Reserve will stay cautious on further rate cuts. Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the S&P 500, Dow and Nasdaq were largely flat, signalling a subdued start as markets brace for early closes on Wednesday and a full shutdown on Thursday for Christmas. Among individual stocks, Novo Nordisk jumped sharply after US regulators approved a daily pill version of its blockbuster weight-loss drug Wegovy, marking the first oral medication cleared for obesity treatment. The approval lifted sentiment around the Danish drugmaker and the broader healthcare space. In commodities, gold extended its rally, touching fresh record levels as investors continued to seek safety amid global uncertainty. Silver also gained, while oil prices edged higher after the US Coast Guard said it was pursuing another sanctioned oil tanker in the Caribbean. Despite recent gains, crude prices remain sharply lower for the year, weighed down by weak demand indicators and soft factory activity. Attention in the days ahead will turn to a clutch of US economic reports scheduled during the shortened week. These include additional GDP estimates, consumer confidence data from the Conference Board and weekly jobless claims, which investors watch closely as a gauge of labour market health. Overseas markets were mixed. European stocks traded narrowly, with Germany’s DAX edging higher while France’s CAC 40 slipped. In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei was flat as the yen strengthened after officials warned of possible intervention to curb excessive currency weakness. Markets in China and South Korea posted modest gains, while Australian equities rose more than 1%.

WATCH: Ethan D’Souza pulls off a stunning diving catch to remove Unmukt Chand in ILT20 2025-26 thriller

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium delivered a nerve-jangling spectacle as Sharjah Warriorz edged Abu Dhabi Knight Riders by four wickets off the final ball in Match 25 of ILT20 2025-26. A low-scoring thriller swung repeatedly before Warriorz, anchored by James Rew and finished by Adil Rashid, hunted down 135 to keep their playoff hopes flickering.

Ethan D’Souza takes an incredible diving catch to dismiss Unmukt Chand in ILT20 game

Having been reduced to 10 for 4 inside the first four overs after a new-ball burst from Taskin Ahmed and Wasim Akram, Knight Riders clawed their way back through a stabilising stand between Sherfane Rutherford and Unmukt Chand. Rutherford’s 44 off 36 balls and Chand’s 24 off 22 deliveries rebuilt the innings from a perilous 48 for 5 to 100 for 6, setting up a potential late surge.

That revival was dramatically halted in the 18th over when Ethan D’Souza produced a jaw-dropping diving catch at deep midwicket to end Chand’s stay. Rashid tossed up a googly on a back-of-length line, Chand swivel-pulled towards the leg-side fence, and D’Souza, sprinting hard to his left, flung himself full-stretch to complete a two-handed grab inches from the turf, a moment that instantly went viral in highlight packages. The dismissal left Chand gone for 24 with Knight Riders sliding to 102 for 7 in 17.2 overs, once again exposing their fragile lower order.

Rashid, who had already choked the scoring with his variations, capitalised on the breakthrough to run through the tail. He removed Andre Russell for a 12-ball 18 with another boundary‑riding take involving D’Souza, before Jason Holder’s six-ball 14 also ended in the deep, completing figures of 3 for 18 as Knight Riders were restricted to 134 for 9. With only 6 extras and just one partnership crossing 50, the hosts finished below par despite Russell’s late blows and Rutherford’s resistance.

Sharjah Warriorz clinch last-ball victory against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

Chasing 135, Warriorz began nervously as Jason Holder and youngster Ajay Kumar struck inside the powerplay to remove Johnson Charles, Monank Patel and then Tom Abell, leaving the visitors 44 for 3. Tom Kohler-Cadmore and captain Sikandar Raza focused on consolidation on a holding Abu Dhabi surface, pushing Warriorz to 51 for 3 at the nine-over strategic timeout and then 78 for 4 after 14 overs, still needing 57 off 36.

The chase tilted Sharjah’s way when Rew and Raza added a brisk 50-run stand off 32 balls, counterattacking Russell and Olly Stone and taking calculated risks against Sunil Narine. Raza’s 28 off 25 with one four and one six ended at 122 for 5 in the final over of Narine’s spell, but Rew held firm, finishing unbeaten on 42 off 29 balls with four fours and a six to keep the equation manageable into the death.

Knight Riders fought back with Holder removing Dwaine Pretorius at 123 for 6, forcing Warriorz to find 12 runs off the final over with two new men, Rew and Rashid, at the crease. Russell’s over started tightly, but a crucial no-ball and a deft late dab from Rashid pushed the game to the brink before Rew’s nerveless running ensured the target was reached off the very last ball, sealing a 4-wicket win with scores level on the penultimate delivery. Rashid’s all-round impact – 3 for 18 with the ball and 2 not out in the chase – earned him Player of the Match, while D’Souza’s spectacular catch supplied the enduring image of a gripping ILT20 finale under lights in Abu Dhabi.

A special NIA court in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday ordered immediate attachment of land belonging to Ghulam Nabi Fai, a US-based Kashmiri lobbyist and convicted agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Judge Yahaya Firdous of Budgam district authorised the seizure of over 1.5 kanals (approximately 8,100 sq. ft.) of land across two villages — Wadwan and Chattabugh. The court directed the Budgam district collector to take possession of the property “forthwith” with the assistance of revenue and police authorities.

NIA Names Pakistani Handler Sajid Jatt In Pahalgam Terror Attack Chargesheet

Later in the day, Budgam police attached Fai’s property. The court’s decision follows an application by Assistant Public Prosecutor Mohammad Iqbal Rather under Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (now Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita).Originally a resident of Budgam, Fai was declared a “proclaimed absconder” by the court in April this year after he failed to respond to a 30-day notice to appear before police. The case against him was registered in 2020 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).Fai, a known supporter of banned Jamaat-e-Islami and alleged to be a close associate of designated terrorist and chief of Hizbul Mujahideen Syed Salahuddin, has been booked for giving support to a terrorist organisation in the country.“This court is satisfied from the record that the accused… has deliberately and intentionally concealed himself,” the judge said in the seven-page order. The prosecution argued that the attachment was urgent as Fai’s relatives currently in possession of the land were likely to sell it, which would defeat the legal process.“… this court directs collector Budgam to attach the immovable property of land measuring one kanal and two marlas under Khewat No 60, survey No 466 in village Wadwan and land measuring 11 marlas under Khewat No 136, Survey No 343 situated at village Chattabugh (belonging to Fai) and take possession forthwith,” the court said. The Budgam district collector has been instructed to use revenue authorities to identify and demarcate the properties before formal attachment, with the Senior Superintendent of Police providing necessary security for the operation.Fai, 76, has a long history of legal trouble in both India and the United States. He rose to prominence as the director of the Washington-based Kashmiri American Council (KAC), which he claimed was an independent grassroots organisation to highlight the so-called “oppression of people of Kashmir”.He was arrested by the FBI in 2011 after an investigation showed that the KAC was a “front” for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. The US authorities proved that for over 20 years, Fai funnelled at least USD 3.5 million from the ISI into the US to influence American policy on Kashmir. In 2012, Fai was sentenced to two years in prison by a Virginia federal court for conspiracy and tax violations. At the time, US Attorney Neil MacBride noted that Fai had “lied to the Justice Department, the IRS, and many political leaders” while pushing ISI propaganda. After his release, he was kept under supervision for three years.During his US trial, federal prosecutors said that Fai had lied about holding a doctorate degree, a title he used for decades to bolster his credibility in political circles.“Fai has no doctorate degree,” US Attorney MacBride informed the court in 2011, noting that his false representation unfairly diluted the respect earned by actual scholars.

Matt Chapman is one of the well-known baseball champions from San Francisco. He is the San Francisco Giants’ third baseman. With his growing career in baseball, his financial stability is also increasing rapidly. He has also extended his contract, which has contributed majorly to his earnings. In 2025, the estimated salary of Matt alone is approximately $26 million, as per recent reports and articles. This makes him one of the highest-paid third basemen in MLB this year. As per the news reports and article, Matt’s independent net worth for 2025 is estimated to be approximately $53 million, including his base salary, MLB contract, brand collaborations, endorsements, and other investment ventures.

Taylor Chapman’s role and personal profile

Taylor Chapman, the wife of Matt Chapman, does not have a publicly documented financial summary. Unlike her husband, who has a widely featured financial trajectory, Taylor’s financial information is barely available on public platforms and journals. As per her lifestyle and social media handles, she has pursued her career in fitness and may have a fitness-related venture or may have held roles in the personal training field and related activities. She is not really a private person; she has often shared her family pictures and lifestyle on the internet. She likes documenting her life with her husband and daughter, but information about financial earnings, business ventures, or investments is not available anywhere in the public portal. Because of this, it’s difficult to calculate or assume the financial wealth of the family, and information about Matt is only available, and we can conclude that the financial wealth of the family is primarily the earnings of Matt.

Combined wealth and family financial picture in 2025

The combined financial net worth of the Chapman family often dominated by the net worth of Matt alone, which comes from his MLB earnings, contract with the Giants, and other sources such as brand endorsements. Taylor’s financial summary is not reported anywhere publicly; therefore, the earnings of the family often depend on Matt’s earnings. Though their personality as a couple is often praised by the fans, and they often do brand collaborations together, which contribute to their financial wealth. And these endorsements are expected to increase in the coming years, as they also often share their family bond with their daughter, Gia. The Chapman family is considered an elite sports family that believes in a balance between an elite lifestyle and personal branding. The financial wealth and net worth are majorly something that come from Matt’s sports career and brand endorsements that the couple does both individually and as a couple. Will India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah play in Vijay Hazare Trophy? | Cricket News

Will India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah play in Vijay Hazare Trophy?

MUMBAI: At a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has instructed all Indian players, including senior stars and former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, to feature in at least two matches of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, an exception has been made for Jasprit Bumrah. The decision has been taken with a clear focus on managing the fast bowler’s workload.

Why Suryakumar Yadav the batter could hurt India at T20 World Cup

India are set to enter a packed white-ball calendar. From January 11, they will host New Zealand for an eight-match white-ball series, starting with three ODIs, followed by five T20Is from January 21. After that, India begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With so much cricket lined up, the team management has opted to carefully manage Bumrah’s schedule. As a result, Bumrah will not represent Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which begins on Wednesday. The 32-year-old pacer has a history of injury concerns and underwent back surgery in New Zealand in 2023. Given that background, rest has been prioritised over domestic participation. “Bumrah will not feature in VHT as he is taking rest,” Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel told TOI from Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Bumrah has been on a demanding run in recent months. He played in the Asia Cup (T20 format), featured in all four home Tests against the West Indies and South Africa, toured Australia for a five-match T20I series, and then played a five-match home T20I series against South Africa. During this period, he was rested for the three-match ODI series against Australia (away) and South Africa (home). In the recent T20I series against the Proteas, Bumrah picked up four wickets in three matches at an average of 19.75, while maintaining an economy rate of 7.18. Meanwhile, Gujarat will still have international representation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who missed the last two T20Is against South Africa due to viral fever, is set to feature in the tournament. Gujarat are scheduled to play their league matches in Bengaluru. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will also be in action, turning out for Saurashtra in their Vijay Hazare Trophy matches on January 6 and 8.

These voters will be issued notices and will need to present documents before the Electoral Registration Officers. In Kerala, the draft list published by the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar shows the removal of over 24 lakh names after the enumeration stage of the SIR process. The draft now includes 2,54,42,352 voters, down from the pre-revision total of 2,78,50,855. Hearings for unmapped voters will follow as notices are issued through booth-level officers, who will outline the reasons for the hearings and list required documents. Kelkar added that booth-level officers visited households three times before marking voters as untraceable. Those whose names do not appear in the draft rolls will need to apply afresh for inclusion. The first phase of the special intensive revision was carried out in Bihar in September ahead of the assembly elections. The ongoing exercise will also cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
