Sehban Azim: I remember dressing up like Santa and distributing candies in school

Actor Sehban Azim cherishes Christmas as a time for shared moments and reflection, attending three annual gatherings with friends.

Actor Sehban Azim, known for his work in shows like Dill Mill Gayye, Bepannaah, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Thapki Pyar Ki, Spy Bahu and Tujhse Hai Raabta, says Christmas for him is less about a single celebration and more about shared moments.“There are three gatherings that I go to every year for Christmas,” he shares. “One is at Jennifer Winget’s house. That has been a ritual for a long time, but this year she’s not in the country, so we’ll have to skip it.” Another regular celebration is at Suyyash Rai and Kishwer Merchant’s home. “A group of friends just chill, talk about life, family, and friends. The best part of both houses is being a Secret Santa. The third is to a cafe where another group of friends meet, listen to music, and eat good food.

Throwback to 2024’s Christmas: Celebs Celebration And Cozy Vibes

For Azim, the essence of Christmas lies in reflection. “Like most festivals we have in India, this one reminds us to appreciate our blessings, be generous, and be charitable. These festivals become a great way to help people around you and those in need.”Recalling childhood memories, he says, “I remember dressing up like Santa and distributing candies in school, and receiving the same from other Santas.” He also remembers thoughtful surprises. “Close friends somehow knew what was on my list, but I could never buy it, and they gifted it to me as a Secret Santa. That felt like a blessing in disguise.”Today, the actor says, “I still try to be a Secret Santa and make others happy — not just during Christmas, but throughout the year.”

Ishan Kishan smashes record-breaking century as Vijay Hazare Trophy witnesses historic batting day

Indian domestic cricket witnessed an extraordinary chapter on Wednesday as explosive batting displays across venues turned the opening round of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy into a record-shattering spectacle. Headlining the day was Ishan Kishan, who hammered one of the fastest centuries ever by an Indian in men’s List A cricket, underlining his destructive prowess in the 50-over format.

The day will be remembered not just for Kishan’s fireworks, but for an unprecedented sequence of milestones, with three of the four fastest List A centuries by Indian batters being recorded within hours, at two different venues — Ahmedabad and Ranchi.

Ishan Kishan hits second-fastest List A hundreds amongst Indians

The record books were first rewritten in Ranchi when Sakibul Gani raced to a stunning hundred off just 32 balls while representing Bihar in a Plate League fixture against Arunachal Pradesh. Moments later in Ahmedabad, Kishan went one step behind, reaching his century in 33 deliveries, slotting into second place among the fastest Indian List A hundreds.

Only two batters in the history of List A cricket have scored quicker centuries — Jake Fraser-McGurk and AB de Villiers — placing Wednesday’s achievements in elite global company.

Fastest centuries in men’s List A cricket

  • 29 balls – Jake Fraser-McGurk
  • 31 balls – AB de Villiers
  • 32 balls – Sakibul Gani
  • 33 balls – Ishan Kishan

Kishan’s carnage lights up Ahmedabad

Turning out for Jharkhand against Karnataka, Kishan produced a breathtaking late assault after walking in at No. 6. He arrived at the crease in the 38th over following the dismissal of Kumar Kushagra and immediately shifted the momentum with fearless strokeplay.

Kishan reached his half-century off just 20 balls before unleashing a relentless six-hitting spree. He brought up his century by smashing seven sixes and two fours in a 13-ball burst, leaving the Karnataka bowlers shell-shocked. The left-hander eventually finished with a blistering 125 off just 39 deliveries, striking seven fours and 14 towering sixes. Jharkhand piled up a mammoth 412 for 8 after being asked to bat first, with Kishan’s knock completely tilting the contest.

JAMMU: The high court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Tuesday dismissed a PIL filed by former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti seeking the transfer of undertrials—currently imprisoned in jails outside J&K—back into the Union Territory. The division bench of Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal said the petition was vague, unsubstantiated, and politically driven, and failed to meet the legal standards required for entertaining a PIL. The petitioner failed to provide specifics of affected families or prisoners, the nature of cases, or any transfer orders, the court noted. In her petition, the PDP president had also sought an “access protocol” for weekly in-person family interviews and unrestricted privileged lawyer-client meetings, monitoring by legal services authorities, besides a proposed two-member oversight committee. The bench held that the petition, “lacking material documents and grounded in ambiguity,” sought to invoke writ jurisdiction on incomplete and unsubstantiated facts “clearly unveiling its political undercurrents”.The bench observed that the PIL appeared to have been initiated “for the explicit purpose of garnering political advantage,” stressing that PIL cannot be used to advance partisan agendas or convert the court into a political platform.“Since none of the allegedly affected undertrials had approached the court even through institutional mechanisms, the bench held that Mufti, as a political leader, lacked standing to espouse their cause,” the bench noted. The court held that a purely individual grievance concerning a prisoner’s rights cannot ordinarily be the subject of PIL.

England suffered another blow to their Ashes campaign on Wednesday with pace spearhead Jofra Archer ruled out for the remainder of the series due to a side strain, while batsman Ollie Pope was dropped for the fourth Test against Australia. Archer has been England’s standout bowler across the first three Tests, shouldering a heavy workload of 80 overs and taking nine wickets.

Suryakumar Yadav press conference: What he said on his poor form

He will be replaced by Gus Atkinson, who will lead the pace attack alongside Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse and captain Ben Stokes. Will Jacks keeps his place as the frontline spin option. The setback compounds England’s problems as they head into the Melbourne Test starting Friday, already trailing the series 3–0 and playing for pride. They are also without express quick Mark Wood, who managed only 11 overs on tour before a knee injury ended his campaign. Pope paid the price for a run of poor form at number three, with Jacob Bethell coming into the side as the only other change. Opener Ben Duckett retained his spot despite off-field speculation following an unverified video circulating between the second and third Tests. England XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith, Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue.

Bhuvaneshwari had been living with the couple’s two children-a 12-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter-in a rented house in Rajajinagar. Balamurugan was residing separately and working in Whitefield. The couple, married in 2011, had been living apart for about one-and-a-half years following frequent quarrels. Police said the accused suspected his wife of having an extra-marital affair, though this claim has not been substantiated. According to investigators, Bhuvaneshwari had sought legal separation, which Balamurugan was unwilling to accept. Six months ago, she was transferred from the Whitefield branch of the bank and moved to a new rented house with her children without informing her husband. Four months ago, after tracing her new address, Balamurugan allegedly quit his IT job and shifted to Cholurpalya in Kempapura Agrahara to stay closer to her. Police said matters escalated further about a week ago when Balamurugan reportedly received a divorce notice from Bhuvaneshwari. Enraged, he allegedly decided to kill her.

Mumbai responded with fire, chasing down the target emphatically behind their star batter’s brilliance.

This marked his second List A hundred for Mumbai in 17 years, achieved in a brisk 62 balls during the knock, underscoring his enduring ODI prowess on domestic turf.

Fans erupted in frenzy as boundaries flowed relentlessly, 80 of his runs came from the edge of the bat, turning the Jaipur stands into a cauldron of cheers, with chants echoing long after his milestone. Mumbai team to easily cruise to victory against Sikkim

Mumbai reached 160/1 in only 22 overs at 7.27 runs per over, needing just 77 more for a commanding win against a beleaguered Sikkim attack. Shardul Thakur‘s tidy 2/19 led Mumbai’s bowling effort earlier, dismissing Thapa and Kranthi Kumar (34), while Tushar Deshpande (1/32) and Shams Mulani (1/51) chipped in to keep Sikkim in check despite 21 extras.

Sikkim’s innings featured a 106-run stand for the third wicket between Thapa and Kranthi Kumar, but late cameos from Robin Limboo (31*) and others couldn’t push the total beyond par on a true Jaipur surface. Rohit’s dominance not only sealed Mumbai’s dominance but reignited debates on his domestic sharpness ahead of potential national call-ups.

1,750 train cancellations on WR over five days in Dec, Jan for work on 6th line on Kandivli-Boriali section | Mumbai News

1,750 train cancellations on WR over five days in Dec, Jan for work on 6th line on Kandivli-Boriali section

Mumbai: Brace for the cancellation of approximately 350 suburban trains on Western Railway (WR) daily for five days—from Dec 26 to 29 and on Jan 10, announced WR chief spokesperson Vineet Abhishek on Wednesday. This means a total cancellation of up to 1,750 trains during these five days. This could impact the frequency of trains besides speed restrictions imposed during the block period, and this may inconvenience commuters taking local trains on these days.Abhishek further said that on these five days, a major rail block will be undertaken for the commissioning of Electronic Interlocking (EI) panels at Borivali on Up and Down fast lines. “The blocks are being carried out in connection with the 6th line on the Kandivli and Borivli section,” he said, adding that by January 18, the 6th line will be available on this section.

Mumbai Headlines Today — The Biggest Updates You Need to Know.

“It’s a 30-day block from the night of Dec 20 till Jan 18 on the Kandivli and Borivli section. In addition, a speed restriction will be imposed on the Down fast line on this section during the block period on Dec 26 and 27,” an official said. Abhishek said that on the first day of the block on Dec 20/21, only six to seven train services were cancelled, and subsequently, on average, 70-80 train services have been cancelled daily. “But the five big days—four in Dec and one in Jan—will witness major train cancellations as we will implement the last phase of our scheduled work,” he added.Another senior official said that the work is being expedited to ensure minimum inconvenience next week, and for December 31, efforts are being made to ensure no unusual cancellations for the convenience of New Year celebrations. The block will result in the cancellation of several suburban services, and some Borivali/Andheri trains will terminate at Goregaon. The BEST also plans to deploy extra buses outside railway stations on the Western line to cater to the rush of commuters.

NEW DELHI: No sportsperson has been recommended for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for 2025, marking the first time in a decade that the nation’s highest sporting honour has not been conferred. The selection panel that met in the Capital on Wednesday picked 24 names for the Arjuna award but decided not to grant the Khel Ratna to anyone, TOI has reliably learnt. The recommendations will be sent to sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya for his final assent.Names of compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam and women’s World Cup-winning cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana were debated by committee members but were ultimately not considered for the Khel Ratna for varied reasons. This is only the third occasion since the award was instituted in 1991-92 that no athlete has been chosen for the Khel Ratna, the other instances being in 2008 and 2014. Known as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna until Aug, 2021, the award carries a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, a medallion and a citation. In a first, yogasana athlete Aarti Pal was recommended for the Arjuna award, five years after the sport was formally recognised by the ministry. Among others recommended award were chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh, the first Indian woman to win the FIDE women’s World Cup earlier this year; decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, who won silver at the Asian Games in 2023; and the women’s badminton pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand.Meanwhile, it was learnt that Jyothi was again overlooked as compound archery was not part of the Olympics until the Paris Games last year. Compound archery has been added to Los Angeles 2028. The 29-year-old world champion and Asia No 1 archer has been logging the highest points among Khel Ratna applicants for the past three years.Similarly, the names of Harmanpreet Kaur, women’s cricket captain and her deputy, Smriti Mandhana were discussed at length but were left out of the recommendeations as there is no specific points system to assess cricketers’ performance. “In such a case, the committee relies on the recommendations made by the Indian cricket board (BCCI). There were no nominations of either men’s or women’s cricketers by the president or secretary general of the BCCI,” a source said. Pacer Mohammed Shami was the last cricketer to receive the honour in 2023.Arjuna award recommendations: Tejaswin Shankar (Athletics), Priyanka (Athletics), Narender (Boxing), Vidit Gujrathi (Chess), Divya Deshmukh (Chess), Dhanush Srikanth (Deaf Shooting), Pranati Nayak (Gymnastics), Rajkumar Pal (Hockey), Surjeet (Kabaddi), Nirmala Bhati (Kho Kho), Rudransh Khandelwal (Para-Shooting), Ekta Bhyan (Para-athletics), Padmanabh Singh (Polo), Arvind Singh (Rowing), Akhil Sheoran (Shooting), Mehuli Ghosh (Shooting), Sutirtha Mukherjee (Table Tennis), Sonam Malik (Wrestling), Aarti (Yoga), Treesa Jolly (Badminton), Gayatri Gopichand (Badminton), Lalremsiami (Hockey), Mohammed Afsal (Athletics), Pooja (Kabaddi).
