No herbal infusion can be called tea, says FSSAI

GUWAHATI: India’s food safety watchdog has ordered companies to stop calling herbal infusions – from rooibos to flowers – “tea” unless the drink comes solely from the Camellia sinensis tree.FSSAI has directed all businesses to stop branding herbal and plant-based infusions “tea”, warning that such labels mislead consumers and amount to misbranding under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. “It has come to the notice of FSSAI that some food business operators are marketing products that are not obtained from the plant Camellia sinensis under the name ‘Tea,’ such as ‘Rooibos Tea,’ ‘Herbal Tea,’ ‘Flower Tea,’ etc,” the regulator said. Under Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, tea refers exclusively to products made from Camellia sinensis, source of black, green, Kangra and instant teas in solid form.

Rose, tulsi...: If chai isn’t purely from tea plant, you can’t call it tea: FSSAI

Plant-based or herbal infusions or blends do not qualify to be named tea, either directly or indirectly, the regulator said. Brands selling calming, detoxifying or botanical blends will now have to rebrand. Online platforms face large-scale relisting. “We are very happy with this much-needed clarification from FSSAI,” said Bidyananda Barkakoty, adviser to North Eastern Tea Association. “This definition of tea will remove a lot of ambiguity from consumer’s mind, and will also help remove clutter and confusion,” he said.Barkakoty said even US Food and Drug Administration recognised only tea derived from Camellia sinensis as a “healthy” beverage, not herbal infusions.

Farmers oppose land acquisition for airport in Hosur | Coimbatore News

Krishnagiri: Now that the state govt has commenced the process to acquire 2,980 acres in Hosur and Shoolagiri taluks for the proposed international airport in the district, framers from 12 villages in these two taluks are planning to meet chief minister M K Stalin to convey their opposition to the project. The farmers said the Airport Authority of India (AAI) hadn’t yet provided a green signal for the project and wondered why the state govt was acquiring land for the proposed airport in a haste. As per the AAI guidelines, a new greenfield airport is not generally permitted within 150km of an existing airport. Hence, an airport at Hosur, which is just 75km away from Kempegowda International Airport at Devanahalli near Bengaluru, isn’t technically feasible, said a source. According to an official source, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) had in Dec 2021 hired consultants to identify potential locations to set up an airport in Hosur that could handle 30 million passengers a year. Two sites were selected – an airstrip at Belakondapalli and its surroundings, and Muthali and adjacent villages in Hosur and Shoolagiri taluks – and a report in this regard was sent to AAI, the source said. “A high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister on Aug 22, 2024, decided in favour of Muthali, citing extensive govt land, accessible roads and an existing high-voltage power line. Also, only 71 types of restricted products were found in the area during the survey against 348 around the TAAL site. Letters regarding the project were exchanged with AAI on July 22, July 25, Aug 6 and Oct 25, Nov 19 and Dec 19 last year and April 3 this year,” the source said. TIDCO sent a letter to the Chennai Land Administration Commissioner in Oct 2025, seeking administrative approval and after the nod came through it directed the Krishnagiri collector to acquire land in Palavanapalli, Petthamuthali, Adavanapalli, Dasapalenatam, Karupalli, Nandimangalam, Soodakondapalli, Venkadesapuram and Midudepalli villages in Hosur and Shoolagiri taluks. “Land acquisition commenced in Dec. So far, 845 acres has been acquired,” the source said. Now, farmers in the Hosur and Shoolagiri taluks have come together, opposing the project and seeking the chief minister to halt the land acquisition. “If our demand is not met, we will hold protests,” one of the farmers said. They said the airport project would affect the farming activities in the area. “Moreover, the airport will not benefit the villagers. The govt should reconsider the project and choose another location,” said G Sukumar, a farmer from Nandimangalam. Small entrepreneurs, however, said the airport project would spur the growth of Hosur city and surrounding areas. They said the land should be acquired without causing much harm to the farmers.

NFL’s cryptic Stranger Things crossover post leaves fans amused, confused, and asking serious questions | NFL News

NFL’s cryptic Stranger Things crossover post leaves fans amused, confused, and asking serious questions
The NFL sparked online speculation with a cryptic video featuring individuals in pink, reminiscent of Netflix’s Stranger Things. This eerie, context-free post, captioned with a question about concern, leveraged internet humor and ambiguity to drive engagement. The league’s subtle approach blurred marketing and pop culture, effectively reaching younger audiences by participating in broader entertainment conversations.

The NFL rarely breaks the internet with subtlety, but a single post sent fans into speculation mode this week. A short video shared by the league featuring a group dressed in matching pink outfits, unmistakably tied to Netflix’s Stranger Things, quickly gained traction, not for football reasons, but for its eerie tone. Captioned with the line, “uhhhh should we be concerned @Stranger_Things,” the post blurred the line between sports marketing and pop culture storytelling, leaving fans debating whether the league was joking, teasing, or hinting at something bigger.

Why the NFL’s Stranger Things tease worked so well online

At first glance, the clip feels deliberately unsettling: rows of people in coordinated pink attire, standing in formation, waving in unison. There’s no football action, no players, and no obvious context, which is exactly why it worked. The NFL leaned into internet humor, tapping into the same unease and curiosity that made Stranger Things a global phenomenon.By asking, “uhhhh should we be concerned 🤨,” the league essentially invited fans to write their own narrative. Some joked about mind control at stadiums. Others wondered if the video hinted at a halftime show, a Super Bowl crossover, or a deeper Netflix partnership. The ambiguity fueled engagement, pushing the post well past typical league content metrics. This moment also reflects how the NFL has evolved its digital strategy. Instead of relying solely on highlights and scores, the league increasingly positions itself inside broader entertainment conversations. Collaborations with streaming giants allow the NFL to reach younger, pop-culture-savvy audiences who may not tune in every Sunday but live online. What made the post especially effective is that it didn’t overexplain itself. No press release followed. No clarification was offered. The silence allowed curiosity to do the work, proving that sometimes the smartest marketing move is restraint. Also Read: Is Taylor Swift at the Chiefs’ Christmas game tonight with rumors growing that it could be Travis Kelce’s final game

NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history with a stunning performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday. Playing for Bihar in their first Plate Group match of the 2025–26 season, the 14-year-old opener produced one of the most remarkable innings ever seen in domestic cricket.Sooryavanshi smashed 190 runs from just 84 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. He opened the batting for the Sakibul Gani-led Bihar side and completely dominated the bowlers from the start. During his explosive knock, he hit 16 fours and 15 sixes, showing confidence and power well beyond his age. With this innings, Sooryavanshi achieved a unique world record. He became the first men’s cricketer in history to score centuries in both List A and T20 cricket before turning 15. The youngster from Samastipur has already made headlines earlier by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the IPL and T20 cricket. On Wednesday, he added another milestone to his growing list of achievements. At 14 years and 272 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest batter to score a century in men’s List A cricket. He broke a long-standing record held by Pakistan’s Zahoor Elahi, who was 15 years and 209 days old when he scored an unbeaten 103 in 1986.Sooryavanshi reached his century in just 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. At that moment, it was the second-fastest List A hundred by an Indian batter. However, by the end of the day, his effort slipped to fourth place after Sakibul Gani and Ishan Kishan scored even faster centuries in 32 and 33 balls respectively. The young batter was not done even after reaching his hundred. He raced to 150 runs in just 59 balls, breaking another major record. This effort helped him surpass AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket. De Villiers had taken 64 balls to reach the mark during the 2015 ODI World Cup match between South Africa and West Indies.Sooryavanshi’s knock played a huge role in Bihar posting a massive total, which later became a world record score of 574 in List A cricket. His fearless approach and record-breaking innings have once again underlined why he is seen as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket.
